So a friend and I were talking about Legendary armor and we found it hilarious how it really wont make a difference. You can’t really change your build. Yeah you change your armor from berserker to viper but then you’d have to change your trinkets, accessories and amulet to viper as well. But even then, you’d also have the issue of runes. What, you gonna run scholar runes on your viper armor? Yeah…no. So unless they inroduce legendary trinkets, accessories, and amulets as well as legendary runes, legendary armor will just be for style. Ha fashion wars.

I just don’t think there’s any point in getting all 3 legendary armor weights. Some people however are really down for that. I just wanted to get it for my main and call it there.

Just like there is little point in getting Leg. Weapons … yet people do it. To each his own. Frankly, I think the whole purpose of Legendary stuff is to help make the economy ‘work well’ and give people some endgame target to amuse themselves with. I think we all acknowledge there is minimal practical value; the value of LEgendaries is in the gameplay required to get it.

Legendary Armors, like Legendary Weapons, are prestige items with minimal mechanical benefit. They are cool, not powerful. If crafting them is similar to crafting weapons, they are meant to be a mark of achievement. Something to show off with a SLIGHT mechanical benefit that normal ascended gear lacks.

It’s taking longer to implement because it links to future content and they didn’t want spoilers added. I believe they stated the next raids would be required.

That does not discount any possibility of adding sigil swapping though.

Honestly, doesn’t matter if it’s a weapon or armor, if you went through all the trouble of making a legendary it should come pre-loaded with all the sigils or runes that can be swapped between fights.

I mean the same point the original post makes holds completely true of legendary weapons as well. You can swap the stats on the weapon to change your spec but you still have to swap everything else and then change out the runes.

For some reason people still think legendaries are supposed to be better than other equipment, despite 4 years of evidence to the contrary. Legendaries are skins. Nothing else. They don’t need additional functionality.

A sigil/rune overhaul is desperately needed, but thats an entirely separate issue that, for some reason, peolple seem hell-bent on tying to legendary gear.

Well it would make sense to eventually give us legendary trinkets (which should require 500 jewelcrafting to achieve), and without legendary trinkets it definitely diminishes the stat swapping aspect of armor since you still have 5 pieces of gear whose stats you can’t switch on demand. And a rune/sigil revamp is desperately needed, but until then I think a decent solution would be to just allow players to remove runes from legendary armor for no cost. That way its free to swap rune sets once you have the second set you want (even though you gotta get the seet. But I think that’s fair, you shouldn’t be allowed to just switch to the rune effects of really hard to get runes without going through the effort of acquiring them). Same thing could be done for sigils until we get a proper revamp of those systems.

I think it will be good. in gw1 the armor does not have stat.. they can do something like such, and say, once you unlock runes, you can switch rune at anytime too.. its not something they cant do. we will see.. there is no need to speculate what we do not yet known.

When the game came out you couldn’t even change the stats on legendary weapons, and they were exotic rarity. Standard practice was to make a legendary then transmute the skin onto a different exotic to get the stats you wanted. They only added stat swapping when ascended weapons were introduced, because they’d made such a big deal of ascended being a long-term goal.

And yet people still made legendary weapons. People make them now and rarely (or never) change the stats. They make them for the skins or simply because it’s something to work towards. The armour will be the same.

The sad thing is that when Legendary armor comes out, most characters in the game will look the same. Just like now most people wear the same ugly oversized Legendary back item and the Legendary weapons (with hideous clipping issues most of the time). They are so common now I yawn each time I see one. To me, Legendary stuff mean lack of creativity and showoff craze.

Actually this is false. With Bloodstone Ascended Trinkets and a Capacitor you can change your ascended set in entirety on the fly. That’s why they are so good. They go perfectly with Ascended armor.

Let me re-iterate. It’s much, much cheaper to buy a few sigils and some trinkets than you build an entire second set of something.

Legendary runes and sigils would pretty much solve the problem. Getting ascended trinkets isn’t that difficult nowadays as getting Laurels just takes a bit of time (which many have saved up anyway). If they ever introduce legendary runes and sigils that would be awesome.. totally for it. I think they should simply be legendary due to stat-swap capabilities and don’t add some weird shiny effects to them.

Add PVE Rune/Sigil unlocking for legendary gear, just like we have in PVP?
For ex., pay 10g for the Superior Sigil of Force. Afterwards, the sigil is unlocked for your whole account, but can be selected only in legendary weapons.

In all honesty they should just scrap building armor altogether from the sounds of it and use the PvP model for the whole game. Pay to unlock a tune or sigil.

I’ve previously suggested crafting “Legendary” Sigils/Runes in the Mystic Forge by throwing in a full stack (250) of an Exotic rune/sigil along with some other items (Bloodstone Shard, Icy Runestones, Obsidian, Ectoplasm, etc.). The result is an item that unlocks unlimited application of that Sigil/Rune on your gear.

I’d also like to see crafting recipes added for EVERY Sigil/Rune and the ability to salvage them for the rare T6 materials used to craft them.

This would eliminate the upcoming issue with Legendary Armor.

Originally I was doing raid just for crafting legendary armor when HOT came out. But shortly I stopped because I don’t like raid due to it’s time consuming for pug group (my guild was wvw mainly. I am mainly wvw player).

As time goes on, I got several ascended armor boxes. So I don’t need legendary armor anymore. Plus runes issue isn’t good for swap stat on legendary armor.

Sigils and Runes will likely become salvageable at some point in the future and “swapping them” won’t become a hassle as the resources to make them will become more available for all (the Runes/Sigils will be more evenly priced).

Anyways, the Sigil/Rune market is nigh-dead except for a handful of ultra-powerful (well above the rest) runes and sigils that pretty much every veteran player doesn’t think twice about the cost (only the inconvenience of swapping back and forth if necessary). What makes Runes/Sigils a pain to acquire is the alternative currencies (HoT/WvW) to buy them at the moment.

And then to take it to the nth degree, certain Runes (dungeon) are a pain to acquire since they remain account bound only for some reason. If ANet does anything, they need to the account bound only versions first to be able to be listed on the trading post.

What the player base wants is pretty simple – stop locking specific items/enhancements/stats behind a particular game mode (raids, WvW, fractals, even living story).

Afaik the most prevalent argument against convenient rune or sigil libraries on legendary equipment is it would destroy the market for those augmentations.

So, why not use the library concept as a way to re-vitalise that market? For example:
“Unlock Rune of Strength by combining 18 Rune(s) of Strength, 250 Superior(s) Rune of the Undead, 250 Major Rune(s) of Strength and 250 Major Rune(s) of the Brawler in the Mystic Toilet and apply the resulting upgrade to the Legendary Armor.”

You still win convenience, at higher cost that multiple ascended equipment pieces, though.

If they do add a rune/sigil library I really hope it won’t be given insane prices. I do think a drain for major runes/sigils should remain, but depending on that library tuning it could stay with upgrading to superiors.

I just finished my remaining class of ascended armor. Legendary armor should be worth several times the cost of ascended so each piece should be close to the cost of a legendary weapon. Arenanet cannot have purple armor that takes less effort to gather than pink.

legendary armour could easily let you choose the runes for each piece. I mean its gonna cost ALOT and its endgame….giving u free runes is a realistic expectation. Maybe it will even cost 1 of each rune type to make each piece? easy solutions, IF they bother to address them. They could easily not care and just make them like legendary weapons. Or some other option might come into play….like maybe there is a new item that lets u extract the runes idk its boring at this point to think of how/why…..legendary will be for the skin nothing else.
