I was excited to do legendary crafting and had dreams of collecting every single precursor by doing unique tasks to obtain them. This is only maybe 20% true. The other 80% is either grinding various different mats and crafting once a day ascended mats for 10+ days just for Tier 1 or paying 100’s of gold… Really defeats the purpose.

Here was my Journey to Tier 2
1st I leveled legendary crafting which took a couple hours
2nd I purchased all “Vol. 1”s from Vendor for 5 gold 10k karma each (100g, 200k karma)

I started off getting some items for the Howler randomly, and decided to do the Howler first… I had to craft a Wolf Totem, 2 of the 4 items to craft it were collection items from bosses, which was great! the other was 100 bloodstone and then was a little annoyed the 4th was 4xspiritwood planks… so 4 days of ascended mats or 34g… then it got fun again where I went all over the world killing various ambient creatures and I felt like that was exactly what I was expecting. Then the reward was 1 of the 4 items needed to get to Tier 2… the other 3 items required 10 Elonion Leather Squares (90g), 2 Spiritwood Plank (17g) Deldrimor Steel Ingots (20g), and a few other mats all totaling up to about 150g value.
So overall I spent close to 300g and about 4-6 hours of gameplay just to get 4 AP and the ugliest warhorn skin I’ve ever seen [&AgGxFgEA] that looks like a burned PoS… go ahead copy that and look at it in game…. To top it off… the precursor Howl is valued at 298g instant buy… also Tier 2 starts off requring 1000 bandit crests… so needless to say I’m done with legendary crafting… ABSOLUTELY Done!

And please don’t say you can farm mats and get it for free, because that’s a major misconception. Gold = Time = Mats… they all have values equal to eachother… and if mats value for Tier 1 of 3 is more than the item itself, then its a complete ripoff! I’m considering reporting this and would be more than happy to give back the ap and delete the item for 300g… what a scam

The prices right now for Ascended materials have skyrocketed because everyone and their dog is crafting a precursor. You’re seeing the end effect of this, particularly because you’re someone who believes “Gold = Time = Mats”.

So what should you do? The answer is obvious. Put your precursor goals on hold for now, and focus on the materials instead. Make sure you’re doing your daily craftings of Spiritwood, Deldrimor, Elonian Leather, and so on. Harvest raw materials when you can, buy them when you have to. Then turn around and sell them on the Trading Post at the inflated prices to the people who are trying to rush their collections.

After a while, the prices will calm down and normalize. When more people realize that they’re spending 1500 gold on materials for The Legend and they could just buy it on the Trading Post for 900 gold, people will stop crafting precursors. That will reduce the demand for the Ascended materials, causing their prices to drop back down and stabilize. At that point, then you can consider resuming Howl if you wish, armed with the profits you’ve made in these early weeks/months. Or maybe you can just make enough profit to outright buy the precursors you want.

Am I the only person who crafted their precursor using piles and piles of mats that they had from before the HoT release? Seriously, I barely needed to buy anything outside of mithril. Between the mithrillium I had saved up and that my friends let me use, my total gold sunk into the precursor was maybe 200 gold. I’d hoarded materials obsessively since they announced precursor crafting, and it paid off in spades. Getting Dusk as soon as they fixed the modniir bug was very satisfying.

Wrong. All those mats increased in value. You essentially still spent money because you chose to use them instead of sell them. Your cost was the same as everyone else’s.

Nope, I saved loads of materials as well, but put off crafting for a bit to work on other things.

Either way, hoarding materials was obviously and clearly the correct decision, because everything went up in value, my lower initial investment increased in value. My overall cost was significantly less because of when I began to hoard. If my initial hoard of, for example, 300g worth of mats became worth 600g, I’ve saved a ton of money, time, and effort.

If I’d sold everything I’d still not have had enough money to buy Dusk (even with all the deldrimor it’s still more expensive to buy). Using my own mithrillium lowers the cost appreciably because the cost of mats to craft ascended materials is still less than they sell for due to the daily lockout. In the end, yes, I consumed the same value of material as everyone else, but I spent vastly less gold accumulating that value.

You just stated yourself that the mats value is not more than the item itself, it is in fact half the value of the item, and that’s not even taking into consideration that the price of Ascended mats is extremely inflated right now.

Half of your “300g cost” was purchasing all the collection books and making your legendary gift, which have absolutely no bearing on the cost ratio of crafting vs buying precursors. Please stop making up numbers to support your arguments like you are doing in the other thread regarding this same post.

Also while you are at it, stop double posting.

Yeah, a lot of people are saying it’s not worth it.

You’re certainly not alone.

Plus the old precursors all have new, unique, skins now and they’re all pretty good looking in their own right.

I much prefer doing what I’ve been doing: spend my ascended materials (that I gather myself) on weapons and armor for my stable of characters. That’s progress I can get behind.

I patiently waited for the “precursor hunt” but now that it’s here, I bought Dawn on the TP without blinking. 100 deldrimor ingots? That’s more than double what I still need to put my remaining heavy armor characters into all ascended gear.

The price on things such as Spiritwood planks has not “skyrocketed”. It’s gone up, yes, but even using prices from two months ago, the OP’s comments still stand.
Also, precursor crafting isn’t the only thing to change that requires ascended mats. They aren’t coming down in price any time soon, and with Raids being introduced, it’ll only get worse. I highly doubt we’ll ever see these items drop below their current prices.

I expect them to rise even further.

It’s very likely that crafting the new HoT precursors/legendaries will also require tons of ascended materials. And those weapons can’t be acquired by any other means. I expect another huge boost in demand for ascended materials.

Precursor crafting was NEVER intended as an easier way of crafting a precursor.

Did you seriously think you would be able to just go out and craft every single precursor like it’s no big deal?

it sure shouldn’t have been intended as a bigger gold investment than buying the precursor from the TP.

1. Precursors only dropped from the MF which led to people complaining they never got a precursor in all the time they played because of rng.

2. precursors can now be crafted. So it’s no longer dependable on randomness and everyone who wants/needs one can get it.

3. No one said it would be easy to craft one, or even cheap. The possibility of making one is , however, 100%, unlike the MF.

Lastly, i’ve gotten 5 pre’s over the course of 8 months, 2 in one day even. Seeing the reactions of others on that ingame, i understand some players frustrations, which are now after 3 years being adressed by the devs.

Craftable ? yes. Cheap ? no. Desired ? yes. Needed ? no.
