Legendary Weapon
What kind of weapon are you looking for?
For daggers the corrupted shards look nice. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Corrupted_Shard_
For swords there is firebringer.

Nope, you got it right. Basically need to experience the entire game(except sPvP) alot, some parts more than others(like T6 materials grinding).
And, as it stands now, gotta be lucky with RNG precursor drop.
But yes, you need to do WvW. Its not so bad, infact its fun. Im not a big fan of PVP and I thoroughly enjoy it. There are elements of PVE to WvW as well.
Edit: as the above posters, stated, there are a lot of mystic forge recipes that take a good amount of time to complete. Not nearly as long as a legendary, but take a good amount of resources.
If I dont get lucky with a precursor drop before the end of the summer, I might say screw it..go after a bunch of the mystic forge recipes and hope for a precursor scavenger hunt.

The WvW tokens are actually very easy to get. I’d say the hardest parts are the precursor and fighting the tedium of map completion.

i’ll agree with others, the wvw badges aren’t bad at all..just find a zerg and follow, tag everything with some damage and pick up all the loot bags, follow the zerg attacking bases, check every week to see what borderlands your server is on so you can get map completion for each. I’ve played very very little wvw (like rank 6 or 7 i think) and already banked like 130ish badges. For me wvw is fun but i’m not the best at the whole pvp thing, so my advice is to ease yourself into it. Get on snag some vistas and poi then follow a zerg for a bit, then after a few deaths head back to pve. Also if you are following the zerg be sure to watch what the zerg does. I’ve had countless times when i’m zergin and then just all of a sudden the zerg retreats and i’m out by the enemies like a worm on hook for all the big fish to chomp into lol.

You’d be surprised how little time it takes for the WvW tokens, if you follow a zerg it’s about an hour per 30-50 tokens but you should also get to know the jumping puzzles in WvW you can get at least 20 tokens if you do them all each day. The only bad thing is people can still kill you when you do the JP (trust me, it does happen).

there are 4 jp in wvw maps only obsidian sanctum is used as an alternative arena by nice people with nothing better to do. anyway, the gift of mastery is really the easiest to get and the only one not depending entirely on luck.
all the rest of the gifts will make you angry all the time, and unless you have the real luck getting the precursor will be your tombstone.
when you finally get your legendary maybe they’ll change game mechanic and builds and maybe your legendary weapon will become useless with your new build. (no i’m not a ranger with a shortbow).
good luck, anyway, it’s lovely to have one even if u use it only because you have it

Thanks for the link tolunart, there are some cool weapons there that are not near as bad to get as the ones I was looking at.
Thanks for all the other input too. I will give WvW a try. The only reason I have not tried is because I totally suck at pvp LOL, but sounds it may be doable for someone like me.
NP I saw several skins I like better than most of the Legendary ones, and they’re a lot simpler to get since you don’t need map completion, mystic clovers and such. And if you still want to work towards a Legendary, they provide a good intermediate weapon to use while you gather the mats.
You can easily get 500 badges in a day just running with the masses, and even faster if you’re part of the GvG scene. My suggestion though, is if you just hit 80, quit, and came back to the game, you aren’t even close to ready to start thinking about getting a legendary weapon. You need to gear up (ascended too, not just exotics), get everything you need aesthetically, get anything else you want, then devote 2 months of hardcore farming (I farmed for 18 hours a day for 2 months to get mine).

No wonder there are so many stories of people quitting the game after getting a Legendary…
What I dislike is that many of the mystic forge weapons don’t count as being legendary, for instance the cragstone and such, despite I like those weapons more than the actual legendaries themselves! But I need a legendary for achivement and badge and all that jazz.

I thought about it for a long time. To be honest, had I not been obligated to play with Team Legacy I probably would have quit. I can’t grind anymore. I broke it.

Well, the weapon skins are supposed to take about six months of dedicated play to get, not two months of insanity…
