Legendary Weapons' appearances & stats
Legendary weapon is just a vanity item to show off, similar to obsidian armor in the first Guild Wars. It has no better stats than exotic weapons.
You can change your crafting profession by talking to master crafter.

This is incorrect. Legendaries will have slightly better stats than Exotics once Ascended is fully implemented. Is it worth the grind? That’s opinion, however they will in fact have better stats. When Ascended was first implemented all Legendaries stats went up and were immediately hot fixed to reverse it. Anet stated that once Ascended was in place the item stats would be the following:
Legendary > Ascended (Once fully implemented) > Exotic
(edited by Sumii.2845)
^ that is false. Legendaries have the same stats as exotics, at least for now.
I now have less inclination to actually search out and obtain legendary weapons. I found the visuals of them in several links through a google search and was pretty disappointed in how many of them looked. :-(
From everything I have read, obtaining the legendary requires you to have two specific crafting professions. For instance, for the long bow you to have both huntsman and leather working. I cannot find any other listing that offers information that is more concise in one place so you need to figure out which weapon you want, then search the listing to see what crafts are required for that weapon.
As for the stats, it is very confusing to say the least. From what I can see, an exotic is just a few points lower than the legendary and lot less expensive to obtain/craft. There also appears to be some confusion over the stats that are showing vs the stats that are actually on the item.
Not having a comprehensive chart is a bit of a problem. It would be nice to find a full chart setup to show the necessary crafting professions required for each legendary if two are required. Also I do not see where it is specific about both crafting professions being on the same character when you go to build your legendary.

These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
@Ursan, yes. For now. When Ascended if fully rolled out then legendaries are going to get a stat inscrease to be a bump higher than Ascended. This has been the plan for them for forever now.
As of this moment they are vanity items. A year from (maybe longer?) now they will be best in slot items.

They will be BiS together with Ascended, just like they are BiS together with exotics now.
So they will continue to be vanity items.

Source? Last I heard, Legendaries will be bumped to Ascended level stats, not above them. So when ascended weapons are released, legendary weapons will have their stats increased to match that new tier.

It was not stated that they will be better than Ascended, they will simply be bumped to match Ascended.
Since in this moment you claim they are vanity items, when they are bumped to match Ascended, they will remain vanity items by your own claim. They will still only match Ascended, not exceed it – it will just be the prettier skin.

That is exactly what he said.
Legendary as far as stated by anet, will share same stats as ascended. With no further stat increase
In your research for the looks of the items, you kust have come across this information as well, it’s all been well documented, debated to death, and strewn about these very boards. Yes, alot of the legendaries look lackluster. Yes you need two professions at max. Yes the stats are the same as current exotics.
Keep in mind Anet has said time and time again that legendaries will always be best in slot, so when another tier rears it’s heads, stats will change. But as of now, they are skins. Some pretty, some not so much. But all in all, one striking constant remains, and no one can negate this: it is optional. PURELY optional.
As far as crafting them, everything you need, all mats required, can be found at wiki.guildwars2.com. That is what I used to make my Twilight.

Thank you for that link. I took a quick look but it still does not state if the particular character you are building the legendary for has to have both of those crafting professions or just one character in your account has to have it.
Oddly enough for the staff you need both chef and artificer? Why the chef? Makes no sense…I would have thought artificer and perhaps huntsman since you need the wood for the haft.
You are not going to craft the weapon with those professions at all. The professions are needed for other aspects of the overall process known as Gifts, which themselves are only a fraction of the recipe needed. To actually create your legendary you’ll be using the mystic forge.
Making a legendary is a lot more complex and time-consuming than you may be aware. They are a far cry from exotics in terms of difficulty to acquire. For starters, the most crucial component of crafting a legendary is acquiring what is called a precursor- an exotic weapon used as a base for the legendary. You can only obtain this precursor (for the moment) as a random, very low % drop, or by buying it on the TP (they are all very expensive).
Again, just so you understand, legendaries are not better than exotics. The only reason to pursue one is the aesthetics.
You can have more than 2 crafting professions on a character; you can just only have two active at a time (your progress is not lost).
If you want a weapon that will always have the highest stats possible then a legendary is your best bet because every time they add a new tier of gear the legendary weapons will just have the stats changed.
Before anyone jumps all over me ,they never said that ascended was the last tier, all they said was no new tiers released in 2013 and that is because they are taking the whole year to roll ascended out.
It is incredible that for vanity items, some people have 3 of these. I am sure the super hardcore have 5 or more by now. In my case, Bolt for my mesmer isnt completely a “vanity item”, I get to change my sword auto attack and blurred frenzy default sound which bugged me a lot.

You only need 1 character on your ACCOUNT to have it.
You use the two crafting expertises to create the gifts that you need for a particular legendary.
For example, for The Bifrost, you need to create Gift of The Bifrost.
Gift of the Bifrost requires
- 400 chef to create Gift of Color (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gift_of_Color)
- 400 artificer to create Gift of Energy (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gift_of_Energy)
Since all gifts are Account bound, you can simply make each gift on whatever character has that expertise and then place the gift in your bank for further use.

Thanks for the clarity…I had hoped this was the case. I was dreading having to have both required crafts on the same character that I wanted the weapon for. …shudder…
