I’m curious to know if getting a legendary is actually worth it. The reason being behind this question is that, I deploy here in a couple of months and I don’t wanna come back and having this Legendary not being the best anymore. You guys know what I mean?

Legendaries are only cosmetic skins, nothing more….and not even the nicest skins in my opinion.

ANet stated that Legendary weapons will always be top tier gear, so if they release Ascended Weapons (I hope that never happens) then they’ll bump up Legendary Weapon stats to match them.

They are cosmetic only at the moment (and hopefully will stay that way). They have unique skins and animations. They do not have better stats than exotic. Although if they introduce ascended weapons presumably they would be buffed to match since they are meant to always be top tier. I’m not sure how that would work if you transmuted it though and since they don’t have a variety of stat combinations that could be an issue.

I don’t like most of them TBH. Many of them are joke skins and while they are good for a laugh when you first see them and the thought of my Charr shooting rainbows out of a unicorn bow is amusing I’m not spending that much on one. I like the trident but spending that much on underwater weapon seems silly since I would barely ever see it.
Though since in general I don’t like weapons that are too over the top and flashy I don’t think there are going to be many legendaries I will end up liking since they are all about being flashy.

I dont like any of them personally. The bows look like they were both designed for 12 year old girls. (Flowers and ponies?? Cmon!) They all look like Gemstore novelty purchase weapons, IMO.

I myself won’t mind getting 1 but I have no intention of power farming for the materials. Sure if the precursor zap were to land in my lap some where up the road that might change but for now I am quite happy with my warriors dueling wielding Jormags breath and firebringer. not legendary but still bad kitten to be waving around red and blue fire swords.

There is no way I would grind myself into oblivion for god knows how long so I could shoot my little ponies at people or have a sword that leaves brush marks in the air.

If players want legendaries then that is great and I hope they get them but I have no intention of grinding for pixels.

There are currently two main reasons for getting a legendary weapon: you like the skin, or you want the prestige associated with having a legendary. If either of the above applies to you, then you have to ask yourself “How much do I want the skin/the prestige?” If your answer to either of those is “a lot” then you should probably go ahead and get one. If you like the skin so much that you’re just dying to have it, presumably you’d like it just as much upon your return and it would be worth it. Also, legendaries will always be prestigious, so if you are really interested in showing off to your fellow players, getting one would probably be a good investment. Of course that being said, there may be new legendary skins out once you return, so you have to ask yourself if you want to rush and get a legendary now when there might be a skin that you like better out once you return.

Once you have it you’ll never have to replace it unless you want to. Although I’m still unsure about the forced stat distribution thing and what happens if you transmute different stats to the skin.

Otherwise it’s entirely a personal decision. Do you like the skin/prestige enough to go for it?

I love that my legendary (when I get it) will always be scaled up to the top tier gear <3

Got mine yesterday and I must say, it really feel great, I rather grind for a nice looking skin than for 100 more attack that wont change anything in the end. And I got to admit, it’s a little about bragging for me. XD

ArenaNet’s Lindsey Murdock mentioned they want Legendaries to be “on par” with the best gear.

Here is what Lindsey said in one of their news releases back in November:

Thus Legendaries will remain “best-in-slot” items. All Legendary items going forward will be of Ascended power.”

Got a Twilight, so yes… for me is the nicest looking GS in game.

Blot is really, REALLY ugly. Infinite light looks way better.

I’d say no.

They didn’t say the level 80 legendary weapons are going to be up-scaled when the level cap goes up.

Legendary weapons will always be the top tier. But you’ll have new and improved ones that are higher level than the current level 80 ones.

Even if those weapons were in my reach,i would not go for them.Simply because i dont like these,glowy,flashy type weapons like the twilight,especially when swinging it around..i honestly think its a rather annoying effect.

Once i was free to choose wich skins to get..
So you could aim for an infinite light just to say…

For me best skins would be “mist” skins but i will be forced to have a legendary due to tier issues.

If you want:
-prestige
-a nice skin
-the BIS weapon for it’s type (we know it’ll be better than exotic weapons, but if Arenanet releases ascended weapons, then they’ll be on par)

then get it

There is pleny of dungeon gear (weapons) that look better estetically then legendary, only that they dont bring the prestige.
Basically what im saying is that the aspect of legendaries alone, isn’t worth half the effort to get them.

They’ve lost a bit of their appeal to me now, since I see so many of them out there. Seems like everyone and their mother has one. The skin is alright, but I’d prefer something that looks more like a real greatsword. Also, it would nice if ANet added the ability to sheathe the legendaries, since it’s apparently missing.

I think they should be soulbound without exception so they would not be sold on the TP like they are now. If they truly are legendary, their price should perhaps be measured in the sweat and blood needed to craft them, and not in terms of paying gems for gold and just buying one off the trading post.

I would not know if they are worth it or not, I will never be able to own one. I thought that I had a chance right after the Karka event, but they shot right back up into the stratosphere, and totally out of my grasp.

personally i think there out of my grasp too but i would find no greater satisfaction than crafting one, thats my aim and eventually it will come to light not for a LONG time but it will be worth it, dont care how many people have one i want one made by my asur’s own tiny hands, 2x bolt 1x GS thats what im after…yikes will take me forever.

Given that, RNG is so unfriendly, those that have a more “legendary” commitment to the game are not anymore likely to have the mats, let alone precursor as someone who is completely casual about their play.

Legendaries are a carrot on a stick, all designed to get people to pay real money for instead of acquiring through their commitment to the game.

You will have much more fun playing the game, pretending they don’t exist than chasing after RNG.

As others have stated legendaries are grind insurance for the weapon slot. Do the grind once and you are set for the life of the game. Now that is truly Legendary.

I’m treating the Legendaries as a personal goal once a character is 80 and outfitted in their exotics. At that point, any cash, resources, etc on that character go towards that characters Legendary. Spares go to the next character that can use them.

I don’t grind for Legendaries. I don’t have one yet either.

I never really understood the “it isn’t cool cause you can just buy it” thing… I mean that currently applies to every single item in the game except fractal weapons. It is very easy to buy any item with real money, or pay someone to run a skilled 4-man dungeon team if you want a dungeon item.

By that logic the only cool people in this game are the ones who run around naked with only fractal weapons. And that is only until people figure out how to regularly 4-man lvl 20+ fractals, then you’ll be able to buy those too.

Legendary weapons are popular and legendary because they are the hardest thing to get and require the greatest time/money commitment.

Well sunrise is quite nice..

But IMHO, legendaries are just vanity. However having them is quite nice.

Extreme time sink, ultimate money sink, brain turned OFF for hundreds of hours, so, no, hell to the no.

Legendaries are worth it, but only if you like them yourself and if you like to farm, doing fractals, bosses etc to earn the money you will need.

I have made sunrise in a month with just farming 3-4 hours a day (and fractals), and i’m so pleased with it that i’m going for bifrost now… .

But it all depends, do YOU like the way of getting one? And do YOU like the skins?

I think it’s become relatively easier. (Stupid gift of fortune is an exception) where if you have a geared 80 alot of the reqs are filled from just playing the game. It’s not grinding at all unless your trying to make it miserable for yourself. The fact that I can do my dailies or dungeon runs for my 500 tokens along with the gold I get from the runs gives me enough for the t6 mats or I can get majority of the mats from loot from dragons,dungeons, etc. so overall it doesent seem that bad when you look at it from a different perspective.

imho i think they should lower the price (mean the res needed) for the 1H weapons… they should be 1/2 of the 2H.
it is not correct that i have to farm double to equip both hands.
and ofc i hope they will introduce new ways to get legendaries… i dont do much pve, i do www 90% so i will never get one… i think thats not correct

If you get two legendaries, one in each hand, you have two legendaries, so you should farm for two legendaries. I don’t see any problem with that. Also, halving the effort needed to get the one handed legendaries would also halve their prestige value. It’s not like you have to have both the Bolt and the Moot to feel equal to the guy next to you with the Juggernaut.

If you like the look of them sure, they are worth it.

For me personally, no, they are far from worth it. I prefer my weapons clean looking, maybe with some ornaments here and there. I love the look of ancient historical weapons, kinda bummed out we dont have a real “viking” sword in game, but we do have a Gladius… wtf.

Same with helmets and armors, we have no real scandinavian northmen looking helmets or armors (well we have chainmail armors), but there are tons of roman/greek inspired armors aswell as gladiator things. Why cant we get the full facemask viking helms or the pothelms with eye and nose covers? Those would be great cultural helmets.

All the current Norn cultural helmets look like ceremonial scandinavian helmets with horns and stuff on them that has no place in combat.

Worth it nope

lets be serious for most people a couple of hours a day for a year for a slightly different set of pixels

Think of all the things you could do with 2 × 365hours or an extra month

but if your already enjoying the game squirrel away those ectos and t6 drops and one day if precoursers become easier to get why not

I am aiming for one but no longer “working” towards it i found spending all my time thinking what do i need for it next was ruining the game for me

maybe not “hoards” but yes I can see a number of people doing just that.

As a proud wielder of Meteorlogicus, I can say it was most definitely worth it.

I actually prefer volcanus over twilight/sunrise.

Only if you really like the skin. Otherwise, exotics work equally well, and some of them have quite nice models, if less flashy.

I made The Dreamer, and it was all worth it.

Legendary weapons worth it?

If you’re an attention jockey . . . yes. Otherwise, no.

I got dawn from the forge and decided to make it. It’s nice to have a goal in-game. Admittedly it would be worth it even more if they made legendary weps account bound. It’s a lot of work making one, sorta sad you can’t use it on your alts as well.
