We all have our preferences when it comes to visuals in this game, and regarding legendaries I feel they should reflect their status – who wouldnt get Eternity if it wasnt for its great looking skin and that glow.
Looking at this backitem, I feel thats not something I would throw on my character. Dont find it pretty, its strange looking, nothing with resemblance other than fractals? But even then, would you really want to equip something that wouldnt fit the rest of the theme of your character? I’d take Rox Quiver over this on my thief and ranger any day. Not to mention the tons of resources and effort just to get a legendary item.

If Anet wants to keep it Fractal themed, perhaps make that thing smaller, make the backitem all about a belt, or a banner or a cape with some fancy effects like that in the pic, something that would fit all themes/races/classes – or something with resemblance instead of creating something new and strange. I cant put my word on it, it just doesnt taste right.

Just my two cents, and of course other people will disagree!

It’s too much for my toons. Besides, why do I need legendary when I can get the same stats with Ascended?

Yeah, I’m not a fan of any of the skins but the dagger and rifle… but I don’t care to go through all that mess of making another legendary.

This particular piece, is a fractal legendary, but keep in mind they said there will be others as well though probably not back pieces.

I have no issues with the fractal theme, in fact, I think the current infused ascended fractal backpiece is still the best looking one in the whole game up to date as well as some otehr pieces such as torch and spear when wielded. Please also keep in mind that it does not look the same on all armor sets and with different dyes. I have some armor sets where the current one fits particularly well, others, not so much. You have to sync your other gear to look good with fractal skins.

This particular picture looks to me as if they combined at least some elements of the current fractal backpiece + shield graphic, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the current backpiece would be the precursor, or be used as a component to craft this one, but that is only speculation on my part.

If I were a newish player and didn’t already have multiple ascended backpieces, I might consider trying to make it. Or if they release a different skin that I can’t live without :p

I think the backpiece looks alright. It’s just a shame nothing would match it (apart from maybe the ‘coldsnap’ scepter), and the fact it’s tied to fractals. I doubt there’ll be alternative methods to all this new stuff, so I won’t even be giving any of this legendary backpack stuff a thought. Gl to those who do fractals though. Sounds like you’re getting a whole lot of new stuff.

Just wish Anet would put more thought into WvW and EOTM rewards… XD

In this sense legendaries are like any other skin. They’re not all going to suit everyone.

I made the Dreamer for my (human female) ranger and I think it’s pretty perfect for her, but I’d only give it to my (charr male) thief to laugh at how ridiculous it looks.

Likewise I don’t think this backpiece would suit any of my characters, but I immediately thought of 3 friends who would love it. And all for different reasons.

This is where GW2’s focus on horizontal progression is helpful though. In many other games if they updated one of the end-game modes and added a new top-tier item your choices would be to get it, whether you like it or not, or settle for sub-par equipment which would inhibit your ability to play and end-game content. Whereas in GW2 your options are to get it, get any other ascended backpiece, or stick with exotic which most of the game, including most of the end-game, is still balanced around.

The only thing I hate about legendaries is I have to do more pve :P. Hopefully they will have a wvw or spvp legendary backpiece too.

Same, i really hope they don’t lock all back piece legendaries behind group content.

My current problem with backpack is that they seems to follow the current trend of “bigger is better” see the wing backpacks.

If people like big backpack I’m fine with it but I would like that they release more subtile one too as I prefer those.

I was thinking about which visual effects will have a legendary backpack. Ofc can’t be only a shiny skin, it’s a legendary, it will have more visual stuff.

they just need to release more different skins:

so that you have a
Legendary Fire Style Backpiece
Legendary Darkness/Shadow Style Backpiece
Legendary Chaos (Purple/Pink) Style Backpiece
Legendary Ice/Water Style Backpiece
etc…

who knows what will come and what they will add

i really hope for other themed Legendary backpieces too

Well legendary backpiece should have multiple effects. It glows, produces a afterimage instead of footsteps(hopefully :P), and just looks shiny. The best special effect that can be found on the other backpiece skins.

I thought that legendary stuff was over the top flamboyant and in your face, this just looks like a semi neat ascended backpiece, does it have effects or sounds? Cause it looks rather meh :x

Sadly, you can’t really change ascended backpiece stats—perhaps yet. I would say that a legendary backpiece sounds intriguing, but I imagine getting one for nine characters (my main and eight alts) would be a nightmare.

The design is quite nice but there’s just no way in hell i want that thing on my character. I think i’m among the minority who can’t stand all the silly legendaries like twilight and back pieces with wings and what not.

I’d like more stylish stuff that isn’t so kitten over the top and gaudy. Like what about a cape?

As someone who doesn’t really like fractals at all I have some concerns.

Will fractals be the only way to obtain a (not necessarily the same one) legendary back piece?

Will doing fractals be the only way to obtain the ascended salvage kit?

If so then does “…the new ball of dark energy salvage item that will be used for crafting new legendary items in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns and beyond” mean that we will be required to do fractals to obtain legendary weapons in the future?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m super happy for fractal players. They’ve been waiting for these changes for a long time. I also believe they do deserve unique items for mastering difficult content. I just don’t believe that specific equipment types (i.e. a legendary back piece in general) or specific stats (Verata’s trinkets anyone?) should only be available based on your skill in a certain game mode. I’m sure there will be a reward track for PvP, but how about reward tracks for WvW? Visual and cosmetic details are fine in my opinion. They are good symbols of status. I would like to see the continued tradition of GW2 making the same level of equipment available to all players regardless of their prefered game modes. I understand that the stats on legendary equipment are the same as ascended, but the ability to swap stats isn’t. I’m not asking for this to be easy to get for anyone, but maybe we could earn it in the game mode we prefer? For instance I play mostly WvW. So perhaps I could follow some sort of WvW reward track that takes advantage of all of the left over rank points or the rank system in total? This is mostly my opinion and some questions and I certainly do not mean to insult any player of any specific content in our diverse community.

Personally I would like to have a few awesome, but practical legendary back pieces. For instance, scarf or syandana (see warframe for examples) with an animated fire pattern or perhaps made of fire, but has cloth physics.

I agree with LordEnki. I don’t like fractals. I’m at the point where I need a skilled group to progress further and using the LFG tool to find a skilled group is a nightmare. Just get one bozo who doesn’t know what they are doing and won’t follow instructions and your group is up the creek.

Another option is to go for guild groups, but basically all our hard core guild members are in a group of five or six that always goes together and always goes for fractals much higher than I can currently handle. They aren’t in the business of helping others up to their level. I don’t blame them. Going back down to low levels and mentoring someone up to the higher levels is a pain.

You got to build your way up to level 40+ fractals. I’ve considered starting a low level group in my guild and being their mentor, but it’s a royal pain as stated in the paragraph before. If I were a fractal fanatic, I’d go for it, but I see fractals as a VERY SMALL PART of the whole GW2 experience, not something to grind away at for hours a day.
