Hello there,

This post is directed to ArenaNet developers and players, since there is a lot of misunderstanding throughout the forum regarding the Legendary Weapons and mainly the precursors. Before get into that we need to know and understand what the source of these complaints is:

The Legendary Status

So, to make myself clear, it’s important to take a look at the very first video about the Legendary Weapons [by Arena Net].

This allows us to conclude that the purpose of having a Legendary weapon is not only to get it’s beautiful skin but most importantly to show everyone that you are a true Guild Wars 2 master player, it’s an item that showcases your achievements. Therefore it must be the hardest item to obtain in the game.

Now, keeping that in mind, let’s take a closer look into the current process of crafting the legendary itself. The average legendary weapon costs:

  • 500 Dungeon Tokens (account bound)
  • 1.010.100 Karma or 7500 Fractal Relics (account bound)
  • 339 Skill Points (account bound)
  • Gift of Exploration (account bound)
  • 500 Badges of Honor (account bound)
  • being a mastercrafter in 2 crafting professions
  • 120 Gold (buyable stuff from NPCs
  • 1100+ Gold (stuff only buyable from BLTCo)
    OR
  • just buy it from the Black Lion Trading Company

So, you don’t need to be a hardcore gamer to understand where the most difficult part of obtaining these items lays on. Yes, I’m talking about the gold. Because anyone can make the gift of mastery and the gift of fortune with ease, and not feeling half way through!
So that’s it…? More than half of the legendary weapon is just about gold? What about being a master of the game? Am I a master of the game just because I farmed the “cat” out of it? What about being a Dungeon Master? or a Master Crafter, or a Weapon Master, or the the Savior of Tyria, or a Realm Avenger, or perhaps being an arena champion?

To finish this post, I would like to suggest the game developers to review the recipe of the legendary weapons and change it in any way they see fit to match the true concept it was initially theorized. And please remember to keep it freaking hard.

I also think they should give titles some benefit. like gw1 where max title of lucky or Wisdom gives 20% more chance to get rare mats from savaging.

I for one have recently gave up on farming gold as they are boring and the precuser i aim for gets 10-20% higher very time i check tp.

i would love if they add these title “Dungeon Master,Master Crafter,Weapon Master, Realm Avenger ,ect” to maybe the precuser hunt.

Riffing on lin’s suggestion, perhaps Magic Find should be removed from armours and added as a title benefit?
Same for Gold Find?

yeah like gw1 than most people wouldn’t complain since any one can get them by doing title is from. +1

The first six items on your list are all account bound. You have to do them. You have to run the dungeon of your choice and complete it 9 times. You have to play WvW enough to get 500 badges.

The fact is, nothing in this game is particularly hard. That is to say it’s not hard to run a dungeon 9 times. Particularly because most dungeons have an easier path. I had to run CoE and I ran it 9 times. But is making someone run it 100 times better? Not for me. I’ve proven I can beat it, and enough is enough.

Same with farming badges of honor. 500 is a decent number. Of course, a lot of people just do it doing the jumping puzzle in every borderland every day, and that’s sorta cheesy, but so what? It’s a game, not an occupation.

For most people, those who don’t have a fortune to spent, it takes a lot of time and energy (and discipline because you have to save for it) to get a legendary.

At any rate, I doubt Anet is going to change the existing legendary recipes because people have already gone through this. They might, moving forward, give some thought to this for new legendaries, however.
