It shouldnt.. I also dont understand why they do it… Not like legendary effects are ruining visibility of the combat
Not due to the last patch .. it there since a while … I have Sunrise and Rodgort . Im always getting the footprints from both weapon and it always worked but sometime the Aura don’t show up when i use Sunrise… or the Aura work but stay when im swaping weapon. It’s fun to run around with Foefire’s power hammer with the Sunrise aura … it’s glitchy… maybe it’s the patch .. or made it worst but the Legendary animations are glitchy….
For Rodgort , i have the same problem … the fire arm won’t work 1/5 of the time.. i need to drag out the weapon and re-equip it again to fix it.
*yes 2 legendary .. no credit card or RL money … my money is from the TP game……

Yes, i know that. But thats not what im talking about. Since the last patch they started to remove effects whenever it gets crazy. More effects = more effects not showing up. So its easier to see combat. This affects legendary effects aswell, but it shouldnt
what is your ‘’ LOD effect ’’ in the Graphic option panel ? the option is enabled by default, i unchecked it because i don’t want the effect reduction.
While I say that the particle effects culling should work on legendaries too, the culling should not happen to your character. You should always be able to see the particle effects created by your own character.

That’s the thing a lot of players don’t know that and come to the forums to complain about it, but I think Arenanet should make a sticky about it to inform the people.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
You guys do know that there’s a forum for reporting bugs, right? And that they do, and have, fixed legendary visual effects before? If this is a new bug, then report it and call it good.

It not a bug I think, it is LOD not showing the effects because it is selected by default and a lot of people did not check their settings nor did Arenanet tell them to.

One of my friends made an incinerator two days ago. The stated effects work just fine for him.

I feel like people that use the credit card argument don’t really care about the actual cost in dollars and are simply saying it to make themselves feel better. Or are simply jealous they don’t have a credit card to blow on particle effects.

I don’t know Silvermember. I got the impression they were saying that to imply it is not skill to own one but rl money. I can’t speak for everyone of course. But hats off to those who earned through playing the game that owns one. Those who bought anypart of it with rl money, I will just keep my hat on though.

The Effect LOD setting basically sets it up so that if two effects of the same kind are overlapping, the quality of one or both of those effects will be lowered. This is so when, for instance, mesmers drop 15 feedbacks in a zerg fight, you don’t have to FULLY render 15 feedbacks, which is a pretty heavy thing.
In short: It’s not going to affect legendary effects.
It certainly helps to have witnessed combat with 2 legendary greatswords out to understand the problem legendary weapons bring to the visual aspect of combat. The principle is that visibility (animations, etc.) is good. It’s obverse is that anything that obscures visibility in combat is bad. Enter the legendary and it’s particle effects. It simply must be toned down. Combat, even without legendary weapons, verges on a blur when enough people are present. Anet must do something about this and the legendary should not be immune as it is a major contributor.

I have mine checked, which should cause the behavior you’re describing, but it doesn’t.
If you have it ON it does IF it is many effects at one place. Try doing world events with a huge zerg. I will guarantee you that the effects will get removed. (Atleast some of them, the fire hand on incinerator, the aura on the GS)
And if you disable the LOD option it seems fine.
And it is not a bug. Anet clearly stated that they changed the way it works, so effects will start dissapearing whenever many effects appear at once. This is to make better combat visibility. But it should not affect legendary effect, but it does

That’s why I find it ridiculous how everyone whines about Legendaries being “bought through CC”. People don’t realize just how expensive they are to be bought outright with real $.
And even if you buy it through real $, you probably earn a lot to not give a kitten.
