so apparently for the achievment you need 100 globes of destabilized ectoplasm

and the merchant sells 1 globe for 250ectos + 100gold

do you seriously need 25.000 ectos and 10.000gold for that achievment or am i getting something wrong?

Thank goodness I do not have to get all achievements. That one could drive me to quit.

Yakslapper, anyone?

Though to be fair, it’s a gambling thing, so if you have the means to do many rolls on the top tier bundle, it should even out enough that the actual cost shouldn’t be nearly that much. You’re either be on the decline or even come out ahead if you’re really lucky.

25,000 ecto and 10,000 gold is an absolute worst case scenario akin to dumping 400 rares in the forge and not getting a single exotic out of all 100 rolls.

On average you should get enough back that the cost isn’t nearly that high, but you would still average a loss. (House always wins in the end, after all)

This is really for people who want the AP or have the money to gamble. You get some money/ecto back, sometimes you profit, sometimes you lose. You could hit the jackpot and get 2000g out of the bag or you could get the bad roll of 50 ecto and 25g from the 250 ecto/100g bag.

I did 100 tries and lost 800g overall, did a few hundred more and ended up fluctuating between 2000g loss and 500g gain. Ended up at around break even and put the stupid thing away on my alt so I never gamble on it again.

TL;DR don’t have to do it, probably shouldn’t do it either unless you want the AP or have a lot of gold

I can’t help but suspect that there’s going to be something important involving ectoplasm if Anet is going to add a gambling merchant that basically takes away ectos from the economy.

But having said that, some players managed to complete 100 rounds and ended up getting the item.

It gets even crazier since you can purchase multiple globs based on the screenshots. If I remember correctly, you can purchase 5 and 10 globs using the collection reward item.

Isn’t it like only 2 AP?

The amount is kind of crazy^^ The whole thing is just a big money sink. It would be better if the small ones count towards the achievement but the expensive ones would have a low chance on some special item (like an extremly low chance on a pre or something). In that case everyone could get the achievement and the wealthy (or luckers) would still have a reason to gamble.

There should at least be a skritt there serving us free drinks as we gamble away our life’s savings.

I thought about trying it once as you get 1AP, I think, for doing it once. Then I thought, naw. For the 5 ecto one, it’s a couple of gold that gets you 1AP closer to chest with some stuff I don’t really care about in it.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

you are correct, except that you will get roughly 25000 ectos and 10000 gold back. plus or minus a few thousand. after 100 globs, I was up 1000 ectos and down 1000 gold. after ~500 globs, I was up 4000 ecto and up 1000 gold. by about 600 globs I was up 6000 ecto and down 5000 gold. I had to stop because I ran out of gold :P now I have to sell these ecto.
I would say it’s actually decent returns (meaning close to 100% return if you play it infinite times, though probably a bit under). it’s not a clear money sink, but rather a true gamble, similar to those you would get at a blackjack table in a casino. just really high stakes.

Did you know that after you get the item from the achivement, it opens up a new option:
5000 ectos + 2000g to buy?

one of my guildie already got it.

also, the item acts as a permanent personal merchant (500g value) that let you sell stuffs wherever you are. So there’s that.
