So I am looking at legendary weapons, and noticed that they list a damage type. (ex. Frostfang: damage type: ice) Does this have any effect on how much damage is done to an enemy of the opposite type? Say, increased damage to fire based creatures (i.e Fire imps, elementals, etc.) Or does it just effect the death animation?

No legendaries just have the same stats as a ascended weapon only looks better. Well most of them look better than exotics skins. It is a long term goal go for ascended weapons if you are unwilling to grind for a precursor.

Maybe I read this wrong.

It only effects the death animation. There is no elemental damage/resistance in the game.

In this game it makes no difference if your using fire, ice, water or air damage against enemies of the same element, which is dumb. GW1 had it right(go figure) with needing fire against ice and so on in order to deal sufficient damage.

Right up until the armor-ignoring damage metagame.

Then if you were using a fiery dragon sword instead of a 20/20 hilt, you were a noob.

I’m still glad that you can use any weapon in this game – it would be bullkitten if Fiery Dragon Sword/Frostfang were situational.

Don’t need to grind for a precusor any more

But I get your point. It is more of a skin/achievement thing than anything

@ Daniel

Yeah thats what I figured. Thanks!

Most legendaries have good effect a few do not, mostly the off-hand ones. Howler, minstrel, quip and juggernaut are legendaries that have exotic weapon skins that looks similiar to or better. Even the bitfrost has something that looks similiar to it too but the skin is expensive so it is like getting a precursor .

There are mobs immune to certain types of damage like many immune to fire etc etc

Actually they’re immune to specific Conditions. My Firey Dragon Sword kills Embers just as well as it kills Ice Elementals. Same with my Ele’s Lava Fonts and firebreath.
Elemental damage is purely for death animations.
