Less HP, More AI
Yes, we definitely need bosses (and even trash mobs) to be more interesting, especially the ones spawned in the open world. Most of them are loot pinatas. Then again, when bosses aren’t loot pinatas ( see Karka queen ) nobody bothers killing them because a good chunk of the playerbase is happy with the mindless 1-spamming.
I especially feel your pain regarding veterans and normal mobs. 99% of them have at best 2 abilities and often those don’t even matter. Huge difference from GW1 when the kind of enemy you fought could change your entire strategy. Then again, GW1 had no open world…
Good thing they’ve announced in the recent blog post that they are gonna work on the first issue, at least.

Ironically, the Bandits and a few of the Centaur Archers in the level ~25 zones are harder to pin down and beat on than any of the Arah Mobs/Bosses who all just basically thrive on Artificial Diffiulty.
Ppl do not like hard things look at what they did with OR at one point its was hard to get from places to places but now its nothing and you even find ppl who hate the fact that you cant just simply run at full speed by mobs. I mean its a mob who only lives to kill you i would hope they would have some type of aggressive to you and means of stopping you from getting away. That the problem ppl do not know at all what they want. Yes you can make these fight harder with better AI and more mobs and stronger cc but then ppl will want bigger rewards and in truth there will never be a happily places for players they are just simply looking for something any thing to make them self feel better for not doing something.

I agree, when this game was new it was said you have to actually ‘play’ and not just push a set of buttons. I found that you just have to push a set of buttons.
Most of the mobs just sit there, letting you hit them freely with very few attacks other than their auto.
And world bosses are perhaps the most boring thing I’ve ever done. Target it press 1 and then go make some food.

What you’re talking about there isn’t “hard” or difficulty…. it’s CC / “Control” spam. Immobs, cripples, KD’s, chills …. the same crap we eventually learned to just bypass entirely on the Droknar Forge run through Lornar’s Pass (Where’s a Guild Rush version of that by the way? We need one).
No that’s not A.I. or “Difficult” …that’s just spawning dozens of mobs in the middle of your thoroughfare with crap that slows down good players and maybe eventually kills those who are unpracticed in the “Running” minigame.

I feel like there should be events running parallel to the world boss battles in order to affect the bosses. For example, there would be map-wide objectives that need to be done in order to defeat The Shatterer or Jormag. World events could be much more epic, and little events like this would make the player feel individually important – like he actually had a part to play in the world… Isn’t that what ArenaNet wanted to do anyways?

That is difficult its just the type of difficult that your not willing to get better to deal with. If you have some one who moves a lot you try to pin them down or pull them we as players have nearly free movement so the best chose for the mobs and the mob’s ai is to stop our impart our ability to move.

This reminds me of a suggestion I made once that I will now shamelessly pimp out:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Fixes-for-damaging-conditions-PVE/
For those who don’t want to read it, the hilarious thing is that my fix to Poison and Confusion in PVE can be summarized as one sentence:
Make PVE better by making it more engaging.
Seriously. They make it so enemies attack rarely, all their damage is loaded into one or two attacks, they rarely stack meaningful boons, they don’t heal themselves, and there is very little tactics in their actions. If they were to change this, then a whole lot more things become viable.
I personally don’t agree with the bosses’ attack mechanics in the “one and done” sense. Most mobs attack very slowly and deal very high damage. Very few conditions, but mostly damage. The mobs – ArenaNet’s own creations – enforce that idea that dps is the only necessary form of play.
If anyone has ever gone into the Heart of the Mists and played around in the area with the NPCs of each profession, they’ll note that they have the same general amount of health as a player does, but they’re a difficult match because they move like a player would. Why would it be so difficult to apply this same AI to the trash that plagues the majestic world of Tyria?
Also, Arachnid – That’s a fantastic post. Conditions are meaningless to mobs in PvE for exactly that reason. Not to mention, because these effects can only stack to 25, the mobs with the 100,000 health are phased by bleeding the same way a player is phased by 1.
But yes, your points are so valid – if ArenaNet would incorporate mechanics like this, it would be incredible.
