Less junk from star gifts please
I just sold the junk to a vendor, instantly and all at once, for a handful of silver. We get this for turning in shards that some of us don’t even use for anything.
It’s basically free money.
And you want them to give us less or tone it down? May I ask why?

If you are using the Star, you have something you don’t want. Something that is actually a liability to you. Anything you get in return is an asset.
The Star is fine.
Although, since Gift means ‘poison’ in German… don’t drink the bottle of rum Trophy it gives you

Why not just sell them? You’re probably near a bank and thus a vendor if you’re grabbing the fragments out of storage.
Not just the Star, less junk everywhere. Farming for Vials of Powerful blood. Killed 15 Snow Trolls – total take so far: 2 porous bones, 1 bone chip, and maybe 2S.
Yay.
Some seem to think that minimum loot should be Rare items, with Ascended as a 1/100 chance of dropping.
And that would not satisfy some people.
“Waaaagh I am level 80, why am I getting white/blue loot”?
Yeesh.
I’m surprised by the way some people seem to be interpreting what the OP wrote. He’s not asking for strictly more valuable loot, just loot that wastes less time for no readily apparent reason.
I have mixed feelings about junk items. On one hand, they can be somewhat interesting and satisfying to clear out with the “sell junk” button. On the other hand, it would be way less of a hassle just to give us the equivalent copper. Unless I’m overlooking some niche case, there’s absolutely no alternative use for junk other than to convert it directly to copper.
Would anyone actually prefer dealing with junk items to simply receiving the copper directly?
Obviously, it’s not a huge burden or something that needs to change ASAP, but small quality-of-life changes usually aren’t. It would still be nice, just the same.
(There is an achievement for collecting junk drops, so they shouldn’t be removed entirely, but I’m sure they could be used more sparingly or thoughtfully than they are now.)

I’ve been getting random items towards my collection achievements which is nice but also some cool lore type items like a Seaweed Quaggan Doll or the Super Sweet Ring. Just the text on these items is cool, the Seaweed Quaggan Doll says, “Ugh. It smells funny out of water.”
From what I understand everything in the game is on the loot table for the Star and Mawdrey gifts. Over 65k items on the TP alone….one day they will give me a precursor, I just know it!

Yes, there’s an achievement that counts towards getting junk.
you can atleast sell the junk.. and salvage the stuff and whatever. Tell me what you do with the shards if you dont craft ascended (or did it already)? They clog your bank\inventory, you cant sell em and you cant do anything else with them. So turning them to junk atleast gives you some silver and luck essence. 10/10 Love the star

Junk serves the purpose of filling peoples bags and pushing them to buy larger bags/more inventory, which yields a slight increase in chance that they’ll spend real cash to get the gold needed to do such things.
I fed it 50 empy frags earlier and it gave me an empyreal star :P. Saved me 50 more frags and some obsidian shards though I guess.
In early days of the game people asked about the point of the junk loot, and the answer was that in testing players were far less pleased by mobs that just dropped a few copper than by mobs that dropped an item, possibly amusingly named, that could then be turned into copper. It didn’t feel like they were getting enough loot if it came directly as coin.
Don’t open them unless you’re near a merchant.

This, I can absolutely believe. Junk items can be a hassle, but it wouldn’t be the first time players (myself included) were ultimately happier with things that seemed worse. It’s the kind of thing that only becomes apparent with testing and metrics (like a survey question: “Do you feel like you’re getting a good amount of rewards?”) because the answer is so unintuitive.
The sad part is most of the stuff you get out of the Christmas gift boxes
A) cannot be sold to a vendor
B) price is set so low on the TP you can only list them and not sell them outright
C) have to be deleted/destroyed from inventory
if they would at least make it so all the Christmas gift box stuff can be vendor sold, even for 1 copper, it would make me happy.
