@choaskirin

What I said was true. One of the Monsters, (not a whole mob)was a pirate. The other some kind of (yellow) boar. I went after the yellow boar because I knew that I hadn’t killed it.

If what you said is true that monsters in the world longer = more XP, then it might explain that, since most people probably just leave them be. If you are right, I am going to be killing boars a lot! Not sure I buy that though.

I can assure you of one thing. I was not lying.

@SHM

he is correct monsters that have not been killed in a while grant an extra incentive to kill them, so yes monsters that are not hostile till you attack them usually grant more XP since most people generally ignore them.

Yes, I am correct. I know this because it’s a basic function of the game. It’s called ‘Exploration XP.’ The longer a mob is alive in the world, the more XP it gives you when you kill it. Sometimes the base XP on a mob is something like 10, but if you kill it after it’s been wandering around for a few hours, you’ll get an extra 100+ XP.

And while I don’t believe you were lying, spreading misinformation and fear is no way to treat the game or its players.

I have to imagine the majority of people here don’t work in either game development or government, or some other form of product trickle-down company. I can assure you that they don’t sit at their desks all day thinking about how they can lie to and cheat the players. They understand that some people are going to be angry with some decisions, but, as they can see all the available information while the population at large cannot, they try to use that information to do what’s best for the game. Sometimes they fail, but various factors cause it to take time to fix what’s gone wrong.

I get this mentality at work a lot. I was even accused of deleting information I had on file because I told someone something she didn’t want to hear.

The reason games fail is generally because people overreact to something that has happened. If you take a moment to step back and let it sort itself out, you won’t have to leave the game or stop enjoying it.

Edited to add, the word ‘Mob’ means one single monster. This is true of all MMORPGs. ‘Mob’ does not refer to a group of monsters. ‘Mobs’ refers to a group of monsters.

ChaosKirin, I’m not sure you are helping with vague anecdotes about your career and amusing grammar corrections on the usage of “mob” and “mobs”. People here are understandably frustrated with how this particular issue has been dealt with.

More to the point, if this one issue that was “caught out” is a bit on the dodgy side how many other issues have been stealthed? It’s a valid concern and I do not think that grammatical quibbles and condescension are helpful to the overall discussion.

It’s not a grammar correction. It’s a colloquial word used in MMOs, and someone questioned me on it, so I answered.

If someone questions me on my use of a term, I’m going to reply, plain and simple.

Re: Vague anecdotes. I’m afraid I don’t understand your use of the term ‘vague,’ as my example was directly related. However, to clarify, my point is that people on the ‘outside’ of something will always look to demonize people on the ‘inside.’ This is a natural reaction to an activity that isn’t happening the way you want it to happen. In this case, the speed of repairing diminishing returns isn’t enough for some, and so the reaction is to rage and threaten to quit the game, accuse ArenaNet of lying, and generally attempt to search out and name a monster where there is none.

It’s pointless.

Especially because the time frame they’ve given hasn’t finished yet, and the dev in this thread stated that it was being retouched in the next live patch.

Corporations, governments and the media lie on a consistent basis. Unless they fall prey believing their own bs, I am pretty certain most of the parties are well aware that they are lying.

Games fail because game developers take their customers for granted and fail to deliver on promises or fix problems promptly. They fail because they have no sense whatsoever of the value of proper customer support and the value of maintaining customer satisfaction. They fail because they lack honor or integrity or a sense of fairness or responsibility when dealing with customer complaints and grievances.

Anet is guilty of all of this. When I failed to get my reward for finally completing Malchor’s Leap, which took a while because one of the skill points was bugged for weeks, I asked for compensation with in-game currency and they refused to give it to me. It would have cost them absolutely nothing but some electrons and pixels to compensate me for the anger and frustration the broken mechanics in this game have caused me as well as the loss in time and in game loot that I suffered as a result of their screw ups. It was the ONLY correct and honorable thing to do.

Instead they predictably chose to blow me off with a tepid apology at which point I told them they would not receive another penny of real money from me until I have been justly compensated for my loss. I am not the slightest bit interested in their excuses or anyone else’s for this behavior.

Any company with a modicum of class, common sense and responsibility would empower its GMs to promptly compensate customers for problems like this particularly as it costs them nothing to do so. But most MMO devs are so ideologically opposed to the idea of giving you something for nothing—even when you’ve earned it—that they would rather enrage you and turn you off to the game than do the right thing.

This is the only kind of anecdote that matters—the type that arise from dealing with this company.

“If you truly believe that ANet’s only goal is to lie, cheat, and make you angry, then I really feel sorry for you”

I never said any such thing, so don’t twist my words around.

Really? You may as well have. Your entire response is just an angry tirade about how ANet is guilty of lying, blowing you off, disrespecting you, ignoring your complaints, taking you for granted, damaging the integrity of their own game, lacking responsibility, lacking common sense, and ideologically opposed to doing the right thing. You compared ANet to corrupt politicians and corporations, and to top it all off, claim that the only sort of anecdote that matters is your brand of enraged vitriol.

Look, I sympathize powerfully with the problems that arise from shoddy Diminishing Returns measures and consistently shaky—to say the least—bugs that hurt our gameplay for the first three weeks or so.

But it’s incredibly hard to sympathize with you when your rhetoric is running over with vitriol.

I’ve ben logged off for minimum of 2 days. Dr hit me on my first event. Also, DR was significantly present again in the first 20 minutes of playing. (That is my first 3 events) I’m a reasonable person. I wanted to give them a fair chance to implement the fix they promised. It’s just a no go.

I feel highly cheated. Had DR been on the table from day one I would not have bought the game We had a good game for 2 weeks and then they pulled a bait and switch on us.

This is unfair and unethical. I would like a full refund or them to return to me the game I purchased. I can’t see them giving a refund, so I guess the joke is on us. Suffice it to say, you’ll never see another dollar out of me again because I no longer trust you. You might have gotten me once. (shame on you)

Now when people complain about this, they just don’t lock the thread, They remove the thread entirely. You may be able to escape the complaints, but you’ll never escape your reputation.

Well, it’s unethical to sell one thing and deliver another. DR was never promised or described.

I love how certain people mysteriously never get DR at all. I can only conclude that you are one of the following:

1) lucky thus far

2) lying

3) an exploiter

4) a kitten – bag troll

In any event, I don’t need GW2 rewards anymore, since I won’t be playing. No hard feelings. If you are having fun and getting your rewards good for you. I’m gone and they lost my business. I’m not alone on this either.

I don’t see a reason for Karma DR to begin with. You can’t trade it and as far as I know you cant trade (with other players) any of the gear bought with Karma either. So I see the DR with karma just as some arbitrary restriction. Where Anet indirectly tells you how to enjoy the game. ‘Stop repeating that event! Shoo!’ :p

Atm I am not that affected because I’m not grinding karma for gear or anything. I’m not a chef and I am not interested in Orr exotics. Actually I find the use for karma as currency lacking atm.

There was an update a little while back that limited oricalcum farming via server and overflow swapping. This update was too harsh on normal players and we will try to increase the supply of these resources again soon. This requires some more number crunching and testing than the other change we made so it might take a bit longer.

Thanks,

Jon

Any chance we could get an update on when you are going to be fixing this? Just put a no gather for 24 hour debuff on people transferring from one server to the next. Punishing ALL players for a few that are exploiting isn’t fair or good for repeat customers.

Either way, I and many others would greatly appreciate an update on this.

I agree with you, with one exception. DR is hurting you if you are trying to level. You are getting less XP per event and per kill. (I verified it) You may not even realize that you are being hurt.

I’ve said this before:

1) I don’t want them messing with my legitimately earned rewards. (I am not a bot/exploiter)

2) I don’t want to monitor their broken system.

Yea.. this DR system is kitten with no concrete evidence of effectiveness. I find it quite counter-intuitive to combating bots. Why? Because a bot that hits DR will soon realize he needs 4 more bots in order to make enough gold to support its gold selling, so what does it do? Makes 4 more bots; thus the noticeable increase in bot population in common farming areas. Meanwhile, legitimate players suffer and end up probably buying gold from the farmers because it’s cheaper and much more time efficient than trying to farm themselves. Then the bots have more money to buy more accounts to create more bots. Vicious cycle? Yes, thanks to Anet creating an ecosystem where bots win, and legitimate players lose. With no active administration that actually logs into servers and bans bots manually, players are the ones that suffer. I was actually planning on buying this game for friends and family because i enjoyed BWE’s so much; Until i played the actual game that is. Anyone who asks, i tell them don’t buy. Not until they remove DR. I do understand the reasoning behind DR, but there are those of us who enjoy farming. We enjoy helping our guilds and friends through farming because that’s the type of player we are. Farming is something not everyone has the patience for, but for those of us that enjoy it, it’s not only profitable, but strategic as we need to figure out the best way to kill as many mobs as fast as possible. Thus, who finds exploits that Anet plugs? Farmers. Who finds bugs from repetitive actions? Farmers. Troll me all you want, but farmers are an important part of any MMO and at this point, GW2 is just not a farmer’s game. I start hitting DR after 2-3 events in Orr. By the time i’m capped, meaning no decent loot, i go do jormag in hopes to reset, however it doesn’t actually reset fully and i’m forced to go do some menial tasks for almost an hour just so i can get back to farming. Not the idea i was going for when i bought this game and feel that i’ve been ripped off. Will i continue playing? Yes, i paid 60 bucks for it, i’m gonna play it. Would i recommend it to anyone else? Hell no.

The DR started to affect me as well. In around 10 events I start to receive 200+ karma per event which is ridiculous. Please learn your lesson A-Net – you can’t solve something by nerfing something else. As I look at this thread it seem that the issue has been going for a month or even more. This is something that should be your top priority because it affects thousands of people farming for their legendaries and the DR is making it impossible.

Many of us feel like you, but this is going to be like Rangers forums, closed cause we just “complain”, and I feel really bad when it comes to that.
They say “animation bug to fix”, when it was a nerf, people complain about it, they close the thread, giving a really bad taste of mouth to everyone, and only a dev replied 2 times in 700 POST, is ridiculous.
And here is the same way, I see Dev’s replying to things like: My skin is glitching! But noone replying to game mechanics, which IMHO is the most important part of this game, and this DR system, in dungeons, drops, and events, then why in the first place you put them on, Karma you can’t trade it, you use it for yourself, that there’s a limit in events for it feels totally WRONG.

I hope they start dealing with the bots soon and stop this “systems” we are not here to test the game when it’s released, we had long betas for that, I really don’t like the way they are handeling this situations, and even less the situations in forums, where if they just posted “something” or “updated us” many people will be more than pleased, but no, they just come and ask for “positive feedback” and how do you expect people to react when they just come along with such things?

Well my 2c.

“where if they just posted “something” or “updated us” many people will be more than pleased”

In reality it doesn’t work like that. When someone did make an official announcement, reactions included accusations of lying, claims that it was too little, too late, confusion about what exactly the statement means, etc. Very few expressed happiness at hearing the news, and the same people who did are the ones who counsel patience and restraint.

Arenanet could hire someone who does nothing but post hourly updates and people would complain that most of the updates are different ways to say “working on it but we’re not ready yet,” rather than “waved a magic wand and fixed everything,” like the impatient posters expect from the computer wizards.

They will post news when there is news to share, begging and complaining won’t get things done any faster.

Botters are paying customers like everyone else. Actually they’re better, they tend to buy more accounts. Explains why they wait so long to ban, they need to make sure the botters profit before banning them and repeating the cycle.

I know this is for Karma, but its getting really frustrating running dungeons and getting hit with DR. We are encouraged to run dungeons multiple times (I am fine with this concept by the way) and in doing so get efficient at doing it, but then are punished for going to quickly. My guild group can clear any path in AC (legitimately) in around 15 minutes… standing around to ensure it takes us 20 mins (our tested limit to ensure everyone is DR safe) is boring and adds nothing to the experience.

DR affects all players and should only affect botters. I should be able to farm if I want to farm. If Anet didn’t want farming they should make runes of holding cost one gold max. They should drop how much it costs to make legendaries and make the drops easier to obtain. Cap the trading post on how much someone can list an item. This will stop farming which I doubt any of it will happen, so the best coarse of action is dropping the DR all together. Police the botters and gold spammers. I know people that have already stopped playing because of the DR. We players do not put the gold amounts on the items sold by the vendors Anet does. Some items costing 20 gold and if you played the game before 20 gold is not a walk in the park.

I’ve recently shaken off TWO WEEKS of solid DR… where I would go from zone to zone on different toons and still receive nothing worth mentioning. The sad thing is I only get enough time to log in a couple hours every other day, and this DR means that no matter what I do I get zero reward for it, just enough to cover waypoint costs.

I wonder if i’m going back on DR now that I received a single exotic in over two weeks of play.

Sad thing is, I don’t like farming, but I barely break even, and I still have non-exotic armor pieces after a month at 80 due to the horrifically bad gold.

In the mean time, the people who were grandfathered-in before DR have hundreds of gold and power-trade the economy into massive inflation, so anyone who came after them suffers in permanent poverty.

Add insult to injury, ANet continues to nerf T6 mats and drive exotics through the roof.

Also, completing your daily/monthly will give you jugs of karma. Use those with a karma booster.

Seems this thread has gone quiet, but a read of the recent threads around DR shows the topic is still quite hot.

Based on statements said around DR I am going to assume was instituted as a safety net to prevent exploitation of bugs that allowed a person to profit unfairly from drops or event/dungeon rewards. This has since been extended to parking characters at events, such as dragons.

The issue with DR is it punishes players for doing stuff that is required by the game. For example, someone might need some tier 6 crafting materials, but do not have the money to buy them. Their solution is to either farm for them, or farm for gold to buy them. To farm for the item mean killing the same type foes time and time again to try to get the materials, and with the low drop rates you need to kill hundreds of them to get enough to make a complete amour set. In doing so, you end up hitting DR quite quickly and are forced to farm even longer than it would take without DR.

The other option, to farm for gold, means you need to find areas, several to avoid DR, where drops are profitable, or to harvest high end resources. This requires a lot of traveling and ultimately contributes to the ever increasing cost of crafting materials as more and more people buy instead of farm the materials.

So, do I farm my kitten off, suffer DR and hope I get the amount I need in a reasonable amount of time, or do I farm my kitten off so I can buy the materials knowing that I am contributing to the increasing cost.

DR goes against the “play the way you want” mantra when it affects players who decide to gather the materials themselves, because it punishes them for doing so. The only ones who win are bots who farm these materials 24/7, I’ve seen them doing it, and our gold, if we choose to buy these materials, goes to the gold sellers.

So, do we suffer DR and farm for many many hours ourselves, or do we just farm for gold and aide the bane of the MMO world by giving our gold to the gold sellers who farmed the material for us? This is the choice DR forces us to make.

Can you guys let me play the game I bought, for the time I want without being forced to stop because of that DR you guys invented? I like to farm events, being for leveling my toons or farming karma, and I know I’m not breaking any rules of the game, nor I’m hurting any one while I’m doing it. I’m a legitimate player just wanting to play a game he bought and the way he likes. I’m being punished just for playing. who cares if I go from event after event? I do my part of those events or I wouldn’t get the gold medal in the end. Why should I get less reward than another player doing the same event with me? I didn’t bought a game with a time limit for playing.

I seen thit for first time, when I came with my old character to the Cursed Shore. I receive 1700+ karma on this char, and 768 on other. Why must I play on other character, becides I dont like him, for more karma? This is does not help getting pleasure of the game.
