Let's face it : it's only a feature pack
I think people often times forget that GW2 makes up the lack of sub money in gem store purchases. It isn’t liek theya re missing out on 15 dollars a month from each player. Are you sure about the certainty that all we are known to receive in HOT is all that comes in the xpac? I’ll wait and see until more beta players share info and ANET hopefully releases more tidbits. But as of now, it definetly isn’t worth 50 dollars based on what we know. I just don’t believe the people who come here to justify their prepurchases are truly content with it. If they were, they would be playing the beta and not caring what people who feel differently feel. It is as if they must convert people to their position to validate their purchase so early.
I think specs and guild halls is free for all players….

GW2 is like religion to some folks.
Since they already said that they’ve revealed the main items in HoT, I doubt there’s any mysterious raids coming. Challenging group content most likely refers to the guild hall obtaining and the new DEs in the HoT maps.
We’ve basically seen already what the expansion is.
GW2 has had no meaningful content in over a year. Living story is not content, imho. No new races, no mounts, no significant changes to the gameplay whatsoever. I don’t know what they’re doing with all the gemstore money, (maybe it’s going to Wildstar) but they sure as hell aren’t using it to develop the game.
Back in GW1 – an expansion was an entire CONTINENT of content. Nowadays, a full-price expansion means 1 class and some guild halls. My how times have changed.

Yes, I saw an interview where someone asked Colin if there were more to HoT than what they announced and he answered that all the features were already revealed and that would be it.
As the title says, ALL of the major features were revealed and I recall Colin saying that there won’t be anything more than what they have announced so far.
This “expansion pack” is more of a “feature pack”. It feels SOOO cheap and yet SOOO expensive.
For GW2 HoT (50$) :
- New class and specs
- Masteries
- Guild Halls
- A few areas (I remember seeing somewhere that there were only 3?)
- “Challenging” group content (raids?)
- New cosmetics (again and again and again)And that’s about all I can remember.
Beside we have FFXIV Heavensward (39$) (the following is copy/pasted) :
- Level Cap Increase to 60 for all disciples
- Massive New Areas (Ishgard, Dravanian Forelands, Floating Landmasses and Continents)
- New Playable Race
- Multiple New Jobs
- All New Primals (Including an original made for Final Fantasy XIV)
- New Dungeons
- New Raids
- Airship’s Galore (Personal FC Airships)
- New Gear and Recipes
- FLYING MOUNTSAnd according to forums, FFXIV’s xpac would have the same amount of content as the original core game. As for GW2, we all know that it doesn’t feel that case.
Btw, let’s get real and cut this bullcrap. I can see people saying me that GW2 has no sub and it has given free update over the past 3 years. Aside from Fractals and Guild Missions, all the update was like thin air and they’ve been focusing way too much on their cash shop. I didn’t enjoy the living story since I missed some part of it. I still did some episodes but it felt empty.
I’d rather pay a sub and have real content (FFXIV and WoW at some point).
Even if GW2 has no sub, its micro transactions is too present, I know A LOT of people paying way more than 13 bucks a month. So this “no sub” argument can’t justify this expansion pack’s price.
Judging by how you put FLYING MOUNTS in all caps, I’d say you’re just mad because GW2 doesn’t have them.
Sarcasm aside, 13 bucks a month is 156 bucks a year. Plus the 40 dollar price tag on top. The expansion might have more content, but you’re paying a great deal more for it.

Let’s be honest here. The cash shop in GW2 is much larger and generates more revenue than GW1 cash shop ever did. Why would Anet need to develop new content when they can sell skins?
What players haven’t realized is that by giving Anet cash for gem shop items they’ve said: “I’m happy with the game”. Some believe they’re “supporting” new content but all they’ve done is line NCsoft shareholder’s pockets. If you like new skins, fine- buy what you want but don’t confuse the 2.
Looking at GW1, in order for Anet to generate revenue they needed to provide new content- campaigns. By spending money in the cash shop people delayed the creation of an expansion, Anet didn’t need new content because revenue was being generated without it.
But the icing on the cake is how some view Anet. Today, a player in-game said that Anet needed funding for the expansion so you should pre-purchase it…like Anet is a broke studio needing handouts to survive. It just boggles the mind.
If anet handled their marketing better thread like this would be praising HoT instead of shaming it. Quite a nice way to “pre launch” your new baby.

Well, I sure would have like to see some mounts in GW2, haha. Just put it in caps lock because that hyped me for FFXIV. That’s all.
About what you said, I’ll speak for myself :
I don’t think it’s relevant how much I paid over a year for the sub since I spent the same amount if not more for gems in GW2 over the same year. Gems are optional, of course. But we should admit that Anet’s updates always brings back their gem shop to the front whereas other games features new dungeon, etc.
I believe that they make up for the sub fee with all of these micro transactions. It’s my fault for believing and “supporting” Anet.
