Let's figure out how log-in influence works!
I guess I should have given this a title that at first glance appeared to be an argument starter about ascended gear to get people participating.
Anyway, I think I have it figured out.
I logged all of my alts under my personal guild (30 influence).
Next day, I logged in with the first. Influence was now 40.
Logged in under the next. Influence was now 50
Logged in under the next 2. Influence went to 60, 70.
I think 10 attendance points get added to the guild which you are representing the first time that each character logs on for the day.
And then at a set time each day the line gets added in the History tab “x members logged in 11/26/2012 for 10x influence”. This tells you the tally of attendance points that were added in the previous 24 hours.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Influence#Acquisition
The game checks once every 24 hours for members who have logged on to the game during the previous 24 hours.
10 Influence per member, up to 200 Influence for 20 members.
5 Influence per member, for more than 20 members.
I’ve been experimenting with that too, since it’s the main way to gain influence for my personal bank guild without spending.
I noticed the following, logging in each alt in turn:
- The daily count shows the total you gained, but doesn’t add points of its own (on a single-player guild). When the count resets is a mystery, since the hours don’t match at all.
- I got 10 influence per character when logging in, but NOT if they logged in on a map that another alt already logged in at. So if I had two alts at LA, only the first would get 10 points.
- I got an extra character slot before names were released, but haven’t ever seen “6 characters logged in…” despite my best attempts. In fact, it seems to randomly list 4 or 5 characters per day where I got 5 consistently before. Alts beyond the first 5 may not count or even substract from what you can get per day.
-The day after the Ancient Karka event I got “26 members logged in for 230 influence”. My best guess is that all the overflows keep their own count and I got a side benefit from getting disconnected so often.

Interesting about the overflows because we aren’t supposed to get any influence there, at least from events.
It just so happens that all of my alts were in different maps in my testing, so that would make sense that they all got 10 pts.
Well, I found this thread because this “attendance” crap is frustrating. Our recent Log Entry shows:
03/08/2013 – 4 members logged in for 40 influence. ~ 3 hours ago. (Approx. 1:30pm EST)
When last night – 3/7/2013 between 8:30pm till 12:00am EST – (after the previous “attendance check”) we had WAY more than 4 players logged in. We had a 5-man group in a Fractal and some members out in WvW and doing their dailies in PvE.
So, this 4 members logged in for 40 influence crap doesn’t make sense.
I would LOVE for ArenaNet to explain how this system works. As of right now, I’m guessing it’s broken or has recently been skewed.
I’ve found logging on alts adds to the attendance.
I’ve been experimenting with this for a while, as I have a one man guild (well, I have 3).
My findings so far:
Alts count, as it is per character not per account
With one member you can get a maximum of 50 Influence per day for logging into 5 toons who are repping the guild, no more, to get more than 50 requires more accounts
After the attendance check happens, and it gives 10 Influence for each toon, all of those toons must be logged into again to receive it, and so far it looks like if this is not done before the next check you lose it
Also, if they are repping the guild and counted in the attendance check, but repping is switched before logging out, when you log back in to claim the Influence they are counted for you do not receive it, as they are not repping the guild, but the guild they are repping doesn’t get it either
While you aren’t supposed to get Influence while in overflow I’ve never had an issue with that, nor with having multiple toons on the same map (most of mine were in LA or Queensdale), though there’s the chance that with more than 5 toons in the mix it really was not counting ones in duplicate log in locations, but that would be incredibly stupid.
The time of the check is done at random, which means the “24 hour” part is complete bull, since if one day it happens at 4pm and the next day at 2pm, that means the second day’s check only accounts for the last 22 hours, not 24. And if the third days happens at 6pm, that one is counting the last 26 hours.
The part on the wiki that says repping isn’t required is also complete bull, I’ve been doing my testing with 3 personal guilds, and only the one they are repping gets anything, and even then only if they log in again while repping after the check, which means I can’t switch them back and forth. Since if they get counted day 1 for Guild A but I switched them to Guild B before logging out I lose that days Influence, plus they are not counted as part of the attendance for Guild B the next day (because they got counted for Guild A on the previous day, even though I didn’t get the Influence)
This is the hardest part to explain, but basically if I try to switch them all to repping Guild B instead of A there’s always a dead day that I get nothing, for some reason.
This whole attendance check system is so poorly constructed its laughable.
@Cyrus If you’re the only one in that guild I’m not sure how it managed to count up to 26, but 230 for 26 is the right amount. As 10 per person up to 20 would give 200, and then 5 per person for each above 20 would give 6×5, or 30 more, for that total of 230.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

This is exactly how it has been working for me over the last month and a bit since I created my own guild.
One other thing, which I suspect might be messing up a lot of peoples calculations, is that each character can only give influence to 1 guild per day through this method.
So if I leave a character representing my “real” guild (the one with other players in) when I log in the influence goes to them and nothing is added to my personal guild. Even if I change which one I’m representing and log out then back in again.
I suspect this is where the mis-match between the actual influence gain and the notification comes in: It will only count players who earned influence for that guild. So if a guild member logs in representing another guild and then switches to yours it could give you a total of (for example) 6 players online but show only 5 logged in and earned influence.
In practice it’s fairly simple: When you’re done playing make sure your character(s) are all representing the guild(s) you want the next days influence to go to. Then when you log in tomorrow that’s where it will go.
