Let’s save Orr by keeping temples open 24/7. Why let the risen win? With megaservers, we have enough people to do this.

that would be against the best interest of the players – which is ridiculous. First farming, now traits, beats me why anet keeps designing events where you profit from failing them. And no, nerfing loot and other punishing mechanics are not the answer, rewarding success is.

I’ve seen one case where it was pretty clear people were doing it to grief, but it’s a tough nut, you can’t legitimately say “HEY QUIT PLAYING THE GAME AS INTENDED!”

Hoping Anet fixes this thing soon though (although I have my traits on my main, there are alts!) ><

In the last few days of ember farming it was the same – 150 people waiting for event to fail, 3 guys making sure it succeeds even though the whole maps telling them to stop. Theres guilds out there just for doing this crap. But now of course theres no guesting to avoid the trolls. You’re trapped with them.

Actually yes, but in this case there are thousands of people who need this event to fail in order to progress. And if you do this event you are kittening of all of them while you dont really gets anything exept the hate of the people.

You would have thought for those shrine events being successful, A-net would have designed an alternate way to get those traits (besides paying out in gold & skill points). Like getting it at the uncontested shrine through a special NPC, or on successful defense of the shrine from being retaken. Thus people would not have to be waiting around for the whole thing to reset in few day’s; when no one was paying attention. Clearly someone on the design team is not thinking ahead, when it comes to foreseeable problems.

ANet is incredible on this global PvE nerf. Without Orr temples, the biggest supply of T6 and Ectos of the game is shaking.

We will need to wait to the stocks to start to shake and the demand to increase to see what’s the real impact of this Nerf on the game. ANet keeps acting like people who farm are some sort of hackers or bots, there’s no respect anymore for PvE Players.

Sorry, but ember farm is terrible. You have no place interrupting other peoples ability to progress through events, no matter how justified you feel.

There’s a cross-map champ-train now if you want to farm, do that instead.

Its ANet’s fault however for making it so that things do not progress properly if the game is played in the correct way, but that doesn’t justify arbitrary dictation.

Instead of blaming on everyone else, ask ANet to fix it.

but it wasn’t impeding peoples ability to progress.. during the ember farm, we had same guys griefing the event 4 days in a row, so its not like they were doing the event for progression, and they were trolling map chat about it…. if it was a group that did it once and not again I could see that they were honestly trying to progress, but it wasnt

lets just be honest and call a griefer out as what they are, not legitimate players trying to get map completion or some other BS story..

but it is sad that ANET nerfs any legitimate means of earning loot, while we must resort to things like the ember farm to get decent reward for time spent

A bit off topic but the ember farm was not a legitimate means of getting loot, hence it being nerfed.

Since now you get credit for the defense as well as taking the temples it seems that Anet simply overlooked that possibility then fixed it.

I do have to agree though that the sudden interest in succeeding the defense events that would contest the temple is due to a desire to be a giant kitten . Its like OS campers, they only have a few ways to grief players so when a new one presented itself they all probably got wood.

The ember farm event deliberate failing blocked the Gates of Arah from opening, so you can’t liken the two since a lot of people needed that event open for their own progress, and expecting people to guest so that you can continue to exploit an event is beyond rude.

How is it that no event ever fails? We were doing the krait witch the night the megaserver went live and there were more people in Timberline than I’ve ever seen, people were doing events and map chat was active, it was nice for a change…more to the point though, it took us 3 tries to put to the witch down. I don’t see how you can say events never fail. What blocks a group from clearing a temple? People griefing? I say not. If I anger a few farmers by getting in their way in the course of doing an ACTUAL EVENT, then so be it, they can’t stop me or anyone else, other than getting nasty on map chat, which I’ve seen plenty of at the Cathedral of Eternal Radiance from people farming sparks. It’s a game, I simply block them like I block gold sellers, and ignore them. If there are truly things that block event progression, ANet will fix it. They have a habit of forcing people away from bad habits, mostly by making the activity not worthwhile.

…and if it’s changed so that no event ever fails, then there’s no point and no challenge, then it’ll be time to fine a new game methinks.

There are issues with the megaserver, agreed, but I think given a bit of time to work out the kinks, this with be an incredible improvement for the game. People actually playing maps for a change. It’s almost like when I started playing and there were tons of people around. These days many, or even most, maps are essentially deserted.

Balthazar is affected in the way you can’t just track the event, there is no timers and you must be in the map to see how are pre events going, if any, what is very frustrating from the older system where we saw everything that was contested or not.

Ahh, well that is irritating, but at least makes things more challenging and not simple. However, it is an obvious attempt to get more people playing Orr after they drove everyone out last year with huge loot nerfs and by killing VERY popular farming events like Penitent/Plinx/Shelter. Now loot drops are so appallingly bad game-wide that you typically can get better/more valuable drops running low-mid zones than Orr. People just don’t have an incentive to be in Orr, other than temples. I think by taking temples off the timer they’re hoping to lure more people there. Balthazar is a bad test though, if this is the goal.

That said, the only way they’ll get people back in Orr is to make the rewards better than anywhere else in the game…and they really DON’T LIKE giving people rewards for anything.

I think we need to give this some time, and wait for people to get used to it, and let ANet make adjustments. On the one hand, it’s hard to tell when events are happening, especially if they have complex meta events to trigger them, and I am spending a lot more on WPing onto a map since I can’t see from out side anymore. (That’s probably offset by not having to pay for armor repair anymore.)

On the other hand, I’ve been able to do a lot more big events than I used to. I was spending a lot of time wandering around Orr, hoping that enough people would be around for a temple, but now there are a lot more people and I’ve done a few runs on most of them.

I think it could end up being ok.

Now if we could just get coordinated enough to do Tequatl…

There is nothing wrong with no event failing. The rewards are messed. You only get a chest or one of the new traits if you capture a temple. But if no defensive event fails, the temples can’t be recaptured.

This is true for Malchor’s Leap as well.

Unless you have a party or guild/other friends also actively IN map and waiting, there is no way to know for sure when one of these three temples is going up.

ANet considers farming to be a bad habit, they always have as long as I’ve played the game (Fall 2012). Changing events so they can’t be farmed, DR and punishingly low drop rates are just some of the other ways they punish farmers. So yes, I think the intent is absolutely to discourage farming by making events more appealing to complete.

Yes, agreed. Personally, I think the goal, and have thought so since they first did major loot nerfs back in Nov-2012, is to push people to use the gem store. It was a different game before that Lost Shores patch. I remember T6 mats being under 5s and still thinking they were ridiculously expensive.

Temple defense pays nothing if you win.

It would be nice if defense pays the same as re-capture. However the other world bosses would likely be better suited for that.

As for the traits. You have to beat the NPC specified for that trait. Not win the event. If what some players are saying is correct those NPC’s may also spawn during the defense event.

I have also twice re-captured Balthazar Temple on megaserver. You may just have to wait a while and do some of the other events around orr. The players doing the defending will not likely be there forever.
