Let us complete the story achieve with anyone
What is this all about?
Which achievements are you talking about?
What I did was play through the storyline the first time with my main, then played through with an alt or two while getting achievements. This gave them something to do beyond simply replaying what I did with my main.
You can’t skip to a chapter in the middle with an alt, but you can get “second run” achievements their first time through, if you’ve played through it with another character.
I would also like to get clarified what achievements you are talking about. As far as I know the story achievements are account-bound.
He’s talking about the LS2 achievements. The achievements can only be done by a character who’s already done the story once before.
The system got changed for HoT story achievements so that the achievements only needed one character to complete the story. Since LS2 hasn’t been changed to follow suit, I doubt it ever will. It seems pretty low priority now that LS3 is in full swing.
Thanks for the clarification, onevstheworld. That makes more sense. I was thinking about HoT’s achievements, since I’ve done those much more recently than LS2.
While not that important, I’d like to see that QoL change as well. It was especially apparent for LS2 I felt, where you had to play certain episodes multiple times to do multiple paths.
If you don’t want the achievement buffs to take away from the experience, you could just hide them during the first playthrough, but still allow achievements to be done.
Or add a way to skip dialogue in subsequent playthroughs.
I need CT mastery points, not HoT, so I need to get LS2 achievements. But I refuse to waste my time playing through once for all my alts before the achievements will unlock.

Then don’t have the achievements, by your choice.
There is a benefit to playing through with at least two more alts: the chapters that award Carapace armor boxes do so each time a new alt completes the chapter, so you can gather all three weights. At which point you have two more alts to choose from for doing the achieves and can pick the one with the best skill set for the task in each instance.
Some of the achieves require multiple playthroughs anyway, just so you know. You can’t both trigger every trap and avoid every trap in just one run, after all.
But as to your request that they change this requirement: They did. Enough people had this same complaint when LS2 came out that the HoT story achieves could mostly be done the first time in (though again some of them do need multiple choices of paths, and thus multiple runs, though the chapter that does the most of that is also super short to run through). And now in LS3 the achieves can be done the very first time in, except for the choice of doing the puzzle or fighting the golem.

And you have every right to make that personal choice. Choices have consequences. Sometimes they’re good, sometimes they’re bad. In this case your choice prevents you from getting the mastery points you need/want. Bad consequence for you, I guess? But people who make choices and then don’t accept the consquences of their own choices, are usually the kind of people who want to get things the way they prefer, not the way things are.
Do you really need those particular achievements, though? For me, there are 2 CT mastery points I don’t have yet. I’ve maxed out all my masteries, including CT, and still have 15 CT mastery points left to spend on future masteries, should they be implemented. Perhaps go for other achievements?
Regardless, this is the system and how it’s set up. Accept it. Catering to personal preferences is a story without end.
I don’t understand why there are arguments against it. They changed how it works for HoT, and it makes perfect sense.
Whether or not it’s practical in code, or something Anet can spare dev time for, I don’t know, but it’s a solid suggestion, and it doesn’t hurt to ask. Let’s not get fussy about it.
On the plus side, the problem is only with LS2.
On the minus side, the problem still exist with LS2.
You don’t need to do it with all alts, just the ones you want to do achieves with. And you do get fresh rewards for each alt.
