Let us disable other players back slot
I’ve seen FotM level 50 groups in LFG that state “no black wings” so clearly this is a problem.
I don’t know how those black wings even made it into the game tbh. Money>quality of the game? idk
I’m fine with the black wings, tentacles, spinal blades, etc…..they don’t talk or have an annoying speech bubble unlike some other backpiece in the game. :P
Fix your camera settings to not stare at the floor with your camera an inch behind your character at the lowest possible height! An increased FoV, character height scaling, and a vertical notch up go a long way for something as mundane as wings to not take away from your field of vision for dungeon bosses at all!
Here, have some recommended settings. Maybe you’ll be less issued by a few backpieces then.

Where are you people playing that has these crazy LFGs with silly demands? Where I play, people just ask for 70 AR and go.
This is such a silly request. I’m an Asura and you don’t see me running around asking for no Norns in my party.

Probably in the Ridiculous LFG and Pug posts thread.

If black wings are a serious concern for you when PUGing, I’m envious… often I have a lot more worrisome behaviors to contend with that can’t be dealt with by simply flanking .
stop the racism towards angel looking characters, you bloody kittens

Being Asura size with a Charr or Norn sporting those huge wings in front of you adds a bit of extra challenge when doing jumping puzzles.

If I want immersion, I’m not going to go to the game, or indeed an entire genre, where you can find someone named “Sir Michael Holypoo” dancing in the middle of the plaza in his tight blue boxer briefs.
Can’t agree more with OP. And be prepared for wings 2.0 cause white version was just datamined. Oh joy oh joy.
Plz make standard models display without back items and with standarised weapons.
Please.
No.
I demand this.
But let be honest… Is it SO hard to code? This is minor, and quite safe (won’t make character expode… but would be funny). I would like such change.
For some it may not be the problem, but for some it is (and it was even before Guild Wars). Friend of my during vanilla WoW Molten core raid had to use some potion that changed his body (he was playing Tauren). Some people even make fuss about how big are weapon models in FPSes).

Would it be so hard to code a “Open all” , “Use all” “Salvage all” button added to the inventory ? I’m no dev or programmer, but i doubt so seeing that most if not all mmo’s ranging from f2p to p2p usually have this basic feauture installed..we still don’t have it so don’t get your hopes on this one.
Personally, my unnecessarily specific dungeon LFG would state no legendary greatswords- the trail effects are obnoxious, adding a wholly unneeded layer of visual clutter to combat and giving me a headache in the process (it doesn’t help that Guardian and Warrior gs skills involve so much twirling).
I’m sure I’d get no hate for that.

That doesn’t address the core problem – that visibility to monster wind-up animations and general visibility of what is going on in combat is obscured by these huge and often hideous back confections.
It’s not just bosses – smaller enemies are particularly hard to see when some oaf is running around with ginormous wings.
There literally is no way to solve this problem except letting us turn off other people back items. I’m sure Anet is extremely loathe to do it, because they paid real money to look stupid and cover up what is going on, but the fact is – they’re causing a problem, and it’s getting worse as these sort of things become more and more common.
What Anet perhaps doesn’t appreciate is that, long-term, this kind of ugly visual clutter, whilst pleasing the owners and even being amusing in town, damages the overall look and consistency of their game (in a way that very rare pink-dyed bunny-rabbit-looking norns do not), and makes it less playable. They’ve gone too far and it’s going to be a bit of a pain to rein it back in.
Ideally we’d be able to just ban wings/tentacles – i.e. stuff wider than the character and which is visually a big deal.

Lelno. Just deal with it. That’s like asking Anet to turn everyone into an Asura.

The difference with a silly nickname is that the nickname isn’t baffled on your screen. You have to actually press CTRL or click on the person to see his nick, while the wings are forced onto you, as ugly as they are.
O agree, there should be an option to disable other people’s back items, big ones can be very VERY tiresome in some dungeons and places where you need to pack, and can’t see kitten.

Try doing that in the halls of CM, still can’t see anything because there is a ceiling. Any dungeon where the camera gets forced into close quarters and there will be a problem. Also the wings don’t go away when players models are turned to low, back items always load up. I’ll be running no wing dungeon groups for awhile.

They turned everyone into a human for pvp.
Lol these still exist? alright let us disable visual races, let a option for everyone to be human form, because this encourages uh racial tensions and what not, also some races supposedly have a advantage like short asuras in pvp…so please let racial toggles included too.
Deal with it bruh, people bought these to be seen with, if this is such a big problem i think there’s a option where everyone has some default armor or something and everyone looks like a clone.
I mean really..immersion? Some people roleplay you know, they have their own back story, maybe there’s a reason they have wings or some stupid annoying robot saying stuff constantly.

Back items always get loaded despite lowest character model settings. I mentioned it in my post above. Anet also made PvP models universally human for the opposing team so it was easy to recognise animations (asura animations were a real issue for competition because they were so difficult to see.

Mah Owl blessing, worked on for many a year! No spots though (which female Owls have!), but that’s fine enough!

We’ll get white wings now It will take care of your problem.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

This is literally the dumbest thing I’ve read all day.

Also white wings are confirmed on next black lion update@@ black winged brothers! to me!
Well they’d better brush up on their exclusion LFG’s lest they be judged as racist.
For everyone asking if it’s hard, the answer is always YES. You admit you don’t know anything about programming then just assume because it is an appearing small thing that the effort to make it happen is not extremely large, especially when the technology (read scripts) is not already written into the game. There is no precedence for a toggle that removes the visual of a single item from other players equipment. That means it has to be created from the ground up.
It isn’t simple. Nothing is ever simple just because the visual result seems small.

Pfffsh, it’s a rubbish argument to begin with Kal. There IS a hide backslot toggle on the hero screen. If it bothers people, kindly ask that person to temporary hide the back item.
But no, instead lets ask for a tool so we don’t have to be forced into social interaction in a MMORPG.
