Let us salvage ascended rings
the BLT as a option so search for ascended gear, maybe in future they will allow to be sold there.
YesYesYesYesYesYes!!!!!
Why those rings can’t be salvaged is beyond my understanding…
1 ascended ring = 10 ecto and 10 dark matter on salvage please!

Because they dont want to imbalance the economy.

Well, it depends on what one would get after salvaging those.
I also support the (old) idea of having the option to put 4 ascended rings into the Mystic Forge to get another ring or something else.
Why not have them salvage into materials required for 500 jeweler, like Xunlai Ingots? Anything really, just want space back and I can stop avoiding fractals due to the high ring drop rate.
i’d rather ascended gear earned in fractals be unbound and sellable on the TP

Yes PLEEEASE ARENANET! This should have been a feature since day 1 of fractals. Nowadays, when I do fractals I just do it for the ascended chests and empyreal fragments. I get so kittened everytime I get trinkets on my runs. So please Aenanet, let us salvage our rings
Two things with fractals drop need the most is:
Making you able to trade your ascended ring witch u don’t need for at least 1 pristine fractal relic.
Make fractal weapon into boxes like ascended weapons(It is very disapointing where u have like 5% chance for frac weapon and u can still get those u don’t use…)
Yeah, I like the idea of being able to trade your unwanted Ascended Ring for, say, 5 Pristine Fractal Relics. At least that way we can trade our unwanted Rings for one that we DO want, or convert it to more useful stuff like skill points or Obsidian.
Or you know… sell them to an NPC for almost 5 silver?

I Plan On Burnin Through Another 9 Lives”
As a WvW player I envy your “ascended bank tab” as I would love to see these ascended drops. Even exotics are super rare for me though.

I think exotic rings are harder to obtain than ascended rings in fractals.

…or be able to sell them on the TP for more?
MARA (EU) Gunnar’s Hold
just let them be salavaged with the same “rewards” like exotics. Ya know.. some ectos.. maybe dark matter, some ores.. done

I’m actually surprised they haven’t done this yet. Making ascended gear sellable on the TP would really do wonders for those of us who do not wish to craft at all for this sort of thing (and who are unlucky with the drops). Plus it’d probably lead to a decrease in cost for Legendaries and Precursors considering Legendaries use Ascended stats.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
I’d rather have a merchant that would take 3-5 of my unwanted rings and let me choose 1 I would like to have instead; that way would be making some room in bank while getting a ring I could actually use

Ascended gear seems to be for something you works towards while legendary is something you have to buy. Sure you can buy the components for an ascended item off the trading post, but you’ll have to craft it for yourself. I like that you can’t buy ascended items on the TP, hopefully they’ll keep it that way.
How about being able to forge them and get back a random ascended accessory.
Heavens Rage
At this point I imagine people can start making suits of armor out of the rings they have stored up – it would literally be a suit of ascended ring mail.
Let us trade 15 ascended rings for a fractal weapon skin and it would still be worth it. :P
How about being able to forge them and get back a random ascended accessory.
This would make me happy enough already.
Also, if even one ring going in is uninfused, 1/5 chance per try (aka every 20 rings) to create infused version. If all rings are infused, 100% chance to get random infused ascended ring back.
Anything would be great. I have run fractals since the beginning. It was great at first. But now I have my ranger (who I don’t really play) setting there with a full inventory of 100 rings. That isn’t counting the ones setting in storage or the fact that all 10 of my toons have fully ascended trinkets…. the more fractals I run the more I think about just trashing them…
I’ve always thought they will eventually introduce LEGENDARY jewelry and a MF recipe to toss 4 Ascended rings in the Flusher should go along with that.
But there does need to be SOME option for disposing of unwanted Ascended gear (of any type) for something usable.
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
Agreed. So many useless rings. We need some form of decent sink for them.
Perhaps a trade system – rings for tokens or something else. Perhaps a chance of a good drop when salvaged.
Or you know… sell them to an NPC for almost 5 silver?
You realize that’s a shamefully small amount of money for top tier gear, right?
At the very least, Anet, it is time that you made a clear declaration that either we will at some point in the future be able to do something with these rings, or we won’t. This is the least you can do for those of use who have loyally played your ‘top-end’ content for close to two years and assembled one or two bank tabs of rings. Let us know, for once and for all, to keep or not to keep.
p.s. and also prove you actually read and respond to forums would be nice.
For people that run fractals a lot, we have over 2 bank panes full of ascended rings. If a way to salvage these rings doesn’t come soon we will run out of bank space. Should we just sell them to the merchant? Because if a patch change that doesn’t allow us to do this soon, I’ll be forced to get rid of them before the next year.
Do you want more bloodstone? because that’s how you get more bloodstone…
YesYesYesYesYesYes!!!!!
Why those rings can’t be salvaged is beyond my understanding…Because they dont want to imbalance the economy.
(First YES I understand this post I’m replying to is a month old).
I understand Anet’s concern with keeping the in-game economy balanced but their attitude is everything will unbalance the economy. They are truly really paranoid about this matter. I understand how exploits will hurt it but they act like if players make to much money to fast, there goes the economy. Look at all the nerfs they have done in the way of players earning money in-game via events, farming, dungeons and so on.
10 ectos from one ring is a bit much but 10 dark matter is perfect since you can’t sell it.
It’s a pain to buy 4 pieces of exotic armor or 4 exotic weapons and only get 1 dark matter after salvaging them.
Ten ectos from one ring is not unreasonable. Fractals gives low enough rewards as it is. Asc weapon/armour boxes give the player a 50-100g item, 10e is still nothing in comparison to that even if it is tradable. If Anet cannot be afriad of people farming Fractals for ectos, as even if there was a guaranteed 1e per run (if 1 Asc Ring = 10e, then 1 Pristine Frac Relic = 1e) and a chance at a 10e ring, then that still pales in comparison to the rewards that would have been acquired from simply running profitable dungeons.
Yes, doing this would create a windfall of Ecto, since many Fractal runners have been saving multiple bank tabs, alt’s inventories full of Asc rings. However Anet has demonstrated that introducing massive [temporary] shocks to the economy is something that they are willing to do (see Asc armour crafting, especially Silk). Allowing us to salvage one Asc ring for 10e will create this market shock in the short term, some will profit, some will say it is unfair, but in the end after the market goes back to an equilibrium state we will all be better for it.
On the concern for “people unfairly profiting” off this sort of market shock, this is actually one of the least bad scenarios of people profiting off of market shocks. Information on new high demand resources gets leaked all the time and insider trading runs rampent as people giving the opportunity of previewing patches abuse that position. In this case the only people who would really profit, are:
1) Long time Fractal runners, who have been getting very low reward levels all this time reguardless
2) TP barons who will buy cheap ecto and sell it later when the prices go back to equilibrium
The second point there is not even a bad thing, as they are helping to stabilize prices by controlling the supply windfall, and most importantly they are not doing so with insider information, as they must act after the patch that introduces such a change.
There’s no real reason to make these things salvageable. Sure, players want more loot, but it doesn’t need to happen. MMOs have always had top line items that are actually worthless to anyone who already has one.
Sell excess rings to the vendor. All problems solved. No issues outstanding.
Ok, but I insist that they salvage into bloodstone dust and thick leather sections. Only.
There are quite a few items in the game in general that eventually reach End-Of-Life, most of them account bound. All ascended materials for example, many people are already experiencing excessive Bloodstone Dust which has brought about a few minor sinks, but eventually Dragonite Ore and Empyreal Fragments will have the exact same issue for more and more players.
Vials, Globs, and Shards of Mists Essence all reach EOL once you’ve infused all the equipment you desire.
Essences of Luck will have no further use as more and more people reach their 300% MF cap (and some players already have).
Collectible spoons are only needed once, and those at least have a merchant value of 10 silver, but who’s to say those excess exotic spoon drops might not have otherwise been rares that I could’ve TP’d for 35 silver or more? Aether Keys that drop in the Maguuma Jungle are typically needed only once for most players, and who’s to say those aren’t taking up potential valuable drops in our loot tables that could’ve been masterwork or better? Even most common and fine rarity drops are worth more than Aether Keys.
Globs of Dark Matter have no merchant value and will reach EOL once you’ve crafted all the ascended equipment you desire.
Account bound gathering tools that drop from certain loot bags are useless to many players that don’t bother gathering their own materials, or have sets of infinite tools they use instead. They also have no merchant value and take up a potential loot table drop that could’ve been a t6 material or possibly a lodestone.
Instant Repair Canisters drop a little too often for some players, especially now that repair fees no longer exist (although others may find themselves wishing they had more depending on play style).
Most of these are at least depositable/stackable, but can still end up requiring a few slots more than anyone would like to give up, and nobody likes to destroy resources rather than get SOME kind of use out of them that feels worthwhile (unlike 5 silver or less merch value for an ascended trinket).
Ascended rings just fall into the category of non stacking large inventory space consumers, kind of like Blade Shards did, or still do for some players.
(edited by SKATE.1394)
Plus 1 for SKATE. Well put.
Ascended rings are still piling up for people that run fractals frequently. Can we please get some sort of option to salvage these items? If we get unique material for Jeweler 500 that would be great but its not required. Right now we just want more room in our banks before we have to sell them to the merchant for 2 silver. I have about 2 pane full of ascended rings lol.
People have been calling for this for years now. It’s looking doubtful that it’ll change.
Personally I’m keeping one copy of each ring in case I ever decide to make one of my mules into a new main, and in case r500 Jeweler makes them salvageable. I sell any extra copies I find.
I would be fine with them adding a method to salvage them down into a moderate reward, like a few silvers-worth of common goods each, but they definitely should not allow you to salvage them down into rare/unique account-bound materials that would be useful to ascended Jewelers, since many players do not have ring stockpiles and this would put them at a huge disadvantage in maxing out their Jewelcrafting.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”

They are worth a few silver, if you vendor them.

Or, heaven forbid, make them tradeable so those that don’t go near fractals have a chance of getting more than one a month from laurels if they log in every day like slaves and do a daily.
Salvage into what? They already vendor for decent silver. If they salvage into ascended dust they’ll be worth even less than vendor, if they salvage into mats or globs they’ll tank the markets because they’re so ridiculously common and cheap. I’m shocked they’re worth as much as they are for vendor.
They are worth a few silver, if you vendor them.
Then problem solved! What was all the hand wringing about?

That would likely make them very expensive on the TP, and quite a profit stream for Fractal runners. There are better ways to get everyone else their ascended rings, like 500 Jewelery, for example. I agree that they need to do something about that though.

Its about how Ascended Items should be able to be salvage into materials for 475 crafting for level 500 jewelry so we can prepare for that day.

So you want ascended rings to be salvageable just like you can salvage ascended weapons and armor? OH WAIT, you can’t salvage those either!
Get over it and vendor them for silver already, there is a reason they are not salvageable. And all the people in this thread and others complaining about having 100’s of ascended rings in their stash and wanting to be able to salvage them to be ready for 500 jewelry…for what? To make a couple of necks? I guarantee pretty much any fractal runner has already had several necks for a year or more from laurels…
“They are worth a few silver, if you vendor them”
“They already vendor into decent silver”
Are you insane? They are worth 4.95 silver.
NOT EVEN FIVE SILVER. I can vendor some masterwork items for about the same price and I could just walk into a low level area and breathe on a mob to get one. 4.95 silver is just 10c short of the highest waypoint price between the two farthest points on the game world. If you paid the absolute minimum price to waypoint, after 4 waypoints your ascended vendored ring no longer covers the cost. I don’t even
They’re worth absolute garbage if you don’t need them. Decent silver? I’m hoping my sarcasm detector just isn’t functioning properly right now due to having the flu.

Yes ascended rings are an insult.
They have a slot for Crystalline Ore and Ingots, so why not be able to break them down in to that, dark matter, and ectos?
As for Jeweler 500, I don’t know what you would be able to craft. All the other 500 professions are used to craft Ascended gear, but we are able to buy Ascended trinkets.
PvP Rank – 151 – Dragon
WvW Rank – 1,120 – Silver Colonel
All very eloquent SKATE, and some reasonable points, but I feel you are missing the two key issues here. Firstly, many of the items you mention have a collections tab, or are at least stackable, so the EOL question is one the player is not forced to answer. Secondly, rings are a key reward from the final reward chest of end-game content.
You start with ascended material. Mists essence in all its forms is a material, so while it is annoying that something you used to be happy to see drop now seems useless, the player is at least not faced with an uninformed choice of what to do with it. And it does seem obvious that sooner or later we must be able to infuse trinkets (it is an anomaly that we can’t now, but that’s a different topic).
The more common materials such as bloodstone dust et al are also stackable materials so at least a reasonable quantity can be kept. More importantly, it is clear to the player what bloodstone’s usefulness is, and a sink (Mawdrey II, that was both cute and clever) has been created, providing at least some value and, most importantly, some certainty. [A side-note would be that if Anet later provided some requirement for vast volumes of bloodstone dust then they really should be shot.] A sink for the other two is likely to follow, or should at least, providing not only an outlet but certainty.
Most of the rest of that which you mention drops as an aside amongst other bigger rewards, is stackable (blade shards are by the way) and has a clear future. The rings are, as I said earlier, a chance single reward drop from the end chest of the highest level end-game content, really not to be equated with the spoons, for example, which drop if you look at sparkly while teq is on, and sell for more.
As to ‘unbalancing the economy’ (not Skate’s point but that of some previous comment), this is spurious argument. A full run of fractals may or may not yield a single ring. That same run yields a full inventory including a number of rares and probably one exotic. The salvage from that one fraction of a ring is hardly material compared to the value generated by all other activities going on in that two hour period.
Anyway, while I personally would like to see some value to be gained from the ring in some form, what I am requesting is more fundamental, and that is certainty. If Anet agree with Skate, for example, then say so and make it clear you will never put a value on them. Then I and countless others can sell them to the vendors with a heavy heart, alleviated somewhat by the freeing up of bank slots to put our spare stacks of empyreals in.
Or perhaps the uncertainty is deliberately designed to force us to buy more bank tabs ……
You can sell a legendary, but you can’t sell an ascended item…… more brilliant logic…..
Plus 1 for SKATE. Well put.
What I gathered from that post is just that there’s too much ‘rubbish’ loot in this game, not that Ascended Rings eventually reaching their end-of-life is reasonable.
