Lets move on
Express your opinions on various online shopping sites. SOcial media can force companies to change nowadays.
I received the quite condescending reply from support about my refund request, and I told them exactly what I think of their company in no uncertain terms. The fact that they closed the other thread with no response of any worth shows exactly how much they care about their players.
I’m actually quite livid. I went from angry, to furious. They spent the entire last week throwing every single thread into one “thread-osaur,” and now, without a single response, closed the thread.
11,000+ responses. And the only response other than Chris’s mediocre denial is a thread closure. I no longer have words for how disgusted I am.
I agree with the OP. They have given us their final answer, as made clear by closing the other thread and referring us back to the Chris Whiteside post which brought up more questions than answers. That’s Anet’s position – like it or leave it.
Once I’m done helping the 23 friends I’ve invited to this game refund their games, I’ll be relieved. I want nothing more for Christmas than to see news of this game fail spectacularly.

Good thing that Planetside 2 literally just launched today. I urge anyone interested in mass scale FPS PvP to give it a try. It’s really quite an experience and it’s F2P.
Instead of grinding 250 tier 6 mats or paying 70g+ for them, I think that I’m going to be sniping some domes for a while.
planetside 2 here i come … once the nubs on the euro version actually sort their mince out
You guys…seriously need a creative outlet for all this negativity. Livid? Really? You’ve got a hard life ahead of you if you’re this upset about a game lol
Thanks for understanding!

GREAT communication. Community managers now exist to hush the populace while waiting for the storm to subside and get back to business as usual. GREAT work.
I’ve never felt so thoroughly alienated by a game company. I’m done with ArenaNet. Enjoy the $500 plus I stupidly spent in GW2, plus whatever I spent in GW1 since 2005. Unfortunately I can’t apply for a refund because I stupidly pre-purchased this “thing” on April 10.
Goodbye.
If there’s anything I’ve learned from this debacle, it’s this: Don’t put your faith in Manifestos. Don’t put your faith in the things a developer says or the hype a community generates.
No matter how noble or sincere a developer’s intentions, everything they release to the public is subject to often unforgiving realities of the post-release development cycle, which often demands concession to publisher demands over the passions of the developers, and often requires compromise for the sake of pragmatism over dogged allegiance to creative vision.
It’s the nature of the business.
Don’t put your faith in manifestos or visions or developer diaries; Don’t follow uncritically the excitement generated by an excitable online community. Words are cheap; judge a game by what it actually delivers.
Expect great design from your developers; expect innovation and expect progress, and expect them to take risks. But honestly, for Dwayna’s sake, don’t expect them to keep promises. You’re going to end up burned, and frustrated for days, and that doesn’t help anyone.
I’m not saying this to rain on anyone’s parade or stamp out anyone’s enthusiasm or encourage pessimism, but as a cautionary lesson. Controversial decisions like the Ascended gear debacle will happen again, and they will happen in Guild Wars 2, and in Neverwinter Online, and in Elder Scrolls Online, and in every MMO ever. Once you make peace with that inevitability, it becomes a lot easier to stay passionate about the MMORPG genre and stay even-handed when things get ugly. Otherwise, you’ll just end up feeling betrayed, and then bitter, and then scornful, and then turn your back on the genre entirely and I don’t think anybody wants that.
OP’s right. We should move on.
I have a long memory, and I suggest all of you who are disgusted by Anet, leverage the multiple review sites, especially ecommerce sites, to punish them.
i got this from Mark kasbach as explaination for closing my thread about his closure of the massive ascended thread
Quote "
The closing of the ascended gear thread was not done in order to silence people. The thread, in its iteration, had run its course.
People are welcome to provide constructive feedback on any aspect of the game, ascended gear included. … end Quote
make of it what you will.
however he can take the time to end my thread of ONE post and discuss it but Won’T actually take the time to discuss properly the 11000 post thread he closed….
what people want to know is what is the new direction of the game, is the manifesto dead and buried ?? was the new treadmill and all its ramifications a mistake or planned ?? etc.

Is it too much to ask to try and form a coherent thought instead of calling others children while acting quite immature yourself?

Do you live by those words, too?
Going to take this a slightly different direction (why not). I think it’s quite telling that when Amazon.com named it’s top 20 games for 2012 Gw2 came in near the bottom of the list one position behind Diablo 3 (a special kind of slap in the face if you consider the founders of ANet were Blizzard alumni). Diablo 3 is more of an arcade experience than an MMORPG, however I must say once we got past the bumpy launch Diablo 3 has not dealt with the swam of bugs GW2 has…. I enjoyed my three weeks in Diablo 3 and got my $60 worth. I’ve had much more fun in GW2 but I’ve also played with blinders on carefully filtering all the annoyances, balance issues and bugs. Being objective I would have to say Diablo 3 is a better quality product that was much more successful. It also is easy to jump in and jump out and just play. It’s a too-short, but well designed game none the less
GW2’s biggest disappointment is in it’s incredible potential. The changes to end-game show the developers have scrambled to patch in a fix because (they have the numbers) they know most level 80s were not signing back in very often. I predict the amount of work ahead of them to make things right is simply too great against the timeline they have before the masses exit. This is not a prediction of doom, it’s an observation of the reality that’s been going on in the game since about a month and a half post launch.
It’s sad they let the art department run the show. Now they get what they deserve.

There’s 220 pages of why we’re upset about this, why people who were mature, long-time Anet fans are upset about this. But go ahead and insult us for supporting something we used to believe in, with our money from (ready?) … jobs.

Some of us are the 53% and have jobs.

Yep, I guess that cinches it. They do not want players like me here. That’s been made clear now.
Part of me wants to have it refunded, just out of anger, but I don’t think I will. I suppose I have gotten my $100 worth and it seems unfair to ask to have that refunded even if I was hoping to play for years, not months. Plus I do still have some friends that I invited (sorry guys!) they are hyper casual and not even close to 80 so they don’t care about any of this. So I’ll probably come in to play with them once in a while, be kind of jerk move not to do so.
I will never buy from ANet again and will discourage others from doing so.

This.
I suppose if you don’t value things like truthfulness, integrity and honor, this would be quite hilarious.
Lol at everyone attacking me now for poking fun. You know kitten well that $500 is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on this game already and probably could have been better spent elsewhere.
Honestly, the level of complaining and overreacting is so over the top it’s hilarious and embarrassing at the same time.
You seem to have a comprehension problem. That’s what’s embarrassing.
I comprehend quite well actually. Especially the part where there are more important things in life and games should not be taken so seriously. T

Then why are you even here discussing them if you have more important things to do?
We will move on when we are satisfied with a response about the direction. I was going to play tonight but was disgusted at the closing of threads and the brush off to the community.
If we don’t get a response then they will get the same response from players, no more money in the Gem shop. I was planning on spending way too much money in this game because I can, but I guess I can buy other things now.
Well, we didn’t really get an answer, in the actual meaning of the word.
We just got a PR statement, that’s all.
best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on equal power base.”
If we don’t get a response
Keep in mind that silence is a response as well.

I purchased two DDEs for me and my wife and spent the rest in gems on both accounts. Do the math.
You, sir, are a perfect match for what this company now represents.

I am well aware of this and saddened by the actions taken by this company.
