Hi all. I got one of those malleable shields that are account bound and have select-able stats intended for helping alts to level. These are nice items and I appreciate that they’re in-game (despite having all my toons at 80, so it’s a bit late for me :p)

However I question the logic behind having a level 3 shield with fancy level 6 stats…when the off-hand slot doesn’t become available until level 7 anyhow! Is this an oversight? Should I just destroy this, as it’s simply a piece of garbage, or am I missing something critical? Does the shield level up with you (in a WoW style)? Or is this just completely useless to anyone in their right mind?

Nope, it doesn’t level with you. So a shield that low is kind of useless. Sorry.

Stick with GS for levelling. Unless you are levelling off massive open world events where you don’t always want to be in melee range, in which case you opt for a ranged weapon choice.

I believe you can go to Heart of the Mists (or is it WvW?) to equip an offhand before it becomes available normally.

If the item is like its brethren, it should have stats equal to its level +6 (or 9). It should also be exotic. This is at a level when you can’t even get masterwork gear, so it should be useful for some time to come.

You’re right, though, making it a level when you can’t even equip it is silly.

It’s a fair question though… I don’t really know anyone who levels with shields, but someone should’ve caught a low level offhand weapon like that… Swords, daggers, etc. I can understand.
