I’ve been holding on to my Level 80 Boost that came with Heart of Thorns. I have all the Living World episodes. I recently saw a post where someone made 40 gold in a half hour at the leather farm in Lake Doric. Would it be a good idea to create and boost an Engineer, get to Lake Doric and just set down turrets? My idea is that after just a week or so of farming, I will have enough gold to buy anything I want in the Gem Store by exchanging gold for gems. I will also be able to buy any Legendary Weapon at the Trading Post after a couple of weeks or less.

40g in 1/2 hour? That sounds unlikely unless they got a rare drop which you can’t count on. Can you link the post?

The OP in that thread didn’t measure gold/hour; they only counted loot (and inaccurately at that: the current Silverwastes farm last ~45 min because it includes breach + chest farming).

The one person who mentioned gold/hour said 40 gold in one hour at the TP.

In direct answer to the OP’s question:

Sure, boost your engineer to L80 & try out the turret farm. Come back and tell us if you have 800g by the end of a week (buy offers for legendary weapons range from 1800-3000g).

I’m still undecided but I will have to get him to Chapter 4 of LWS3. Considering I have no clue on how to play an engineer, it will probably take a while just to get to Lake Doric. I am leaning more towards just doing it because I haven’t had any other use for the boost since I like to slowly learn the profession I am playing except in this case.

When you make 15g in first hours in this farm, you are lucky boy. After maybe 30 min drop is dramaticaly decreased because Diminishing returns “Loot from enemies, in which foes tend to drop less loot of progressively lower quality, for a character remaining in the same area for long periods of time.”

It didn’t take me that long to get to Lake Doric. After one hour of farming, not sure what I was doing and forgetting to run around and see if my auto loot missed anything out of loot range, I made 21g 0s 28c. So that means I would have to do over 100 hours to get about 2000 gold. That is not taking into account diminishing returns or the time to sell everything at the TP. On a personal note, this is really, really boring. I would probably do this one hour a day while watching something on TV.
