I’m done with these forums. My mental health requires me to never check in here ever again. It’s not worth it, I can’t argue with brainless zombies anymore. It’s just stupid.
sigh, now look, I love pvp, actually, the very harsh loot all equipment from corpse, xp penalty, lose weeks of work kinda pvp of Eve online, Darkfall and other niche titles. But GW2 is just not made for this and the majority of players seem to enjoy cooperative PvE mostly in safe zones. You don´t give any reasons why we would “need it”. Why can´t you just go to WvW like the rest of us? Yeah, I know, “it is all zerging etc. etc.” But this is ingrained into game mechanics and it wouldn´t be any different on a pve map. But I guess you are rather looking to gank players not used to pvp because THAT would be the only real difference from WvW where everyone is ready for you.

It can be an optional individual mode. If I want to PvP, I click the ‘PvP mode’ button on my screen and it puts me into PvP mode, freely able to attack other people who are also in “PvP mode” and also to be attacked – identified by their name text being the color red while in PvP mode.
When you choose to enter PvP-mode, you are bound to remain in PvP-mode for 12 in-game hours (prevents going pvp, ganking, and switching back to pve).

Then people get harassed for not turning it on.
Your 12 hour lock means that if a player turns it on and finds they don’t like it, they either have to spend 12 hours in the cities or not play the game for 12 hours to avoid being targeted.
Now what I think could be done is have a Server that people are only ever able to guest to. It would have to be separate from the Megaservers and it would have open world PvP with the cities being safe zones.
That way those who wish to have PvP in the PvE environment can have their cake and those who do not wish to PvP don’t have to see it and aren’t as likely to be harassed.
And there will be no ill effects on any bosses or events on the map that already draw crowds.

I’m not against a “special” map (kind of like the short bus) for those that want it, but don’t FORCE me to ride…..errr enter it.

No – they already said this game IS NOT DESIGNED FOR IT AND IT WOULD BE TOO HARD TO ADD IN. Do WvW or sPvP – that is all the PvP one is going to get in this game. There are no Factions, like in GW1, so adding factions would break lore right now.

As an ex-Aion player I can 100% agree that gankfests are not fun. The only ones who actually enjoy that are the gankers themselves.

That would be sure to make me want to avoid all lvl 80 maps at all costs. Lucky for me it wont happen.

That is all you need to research – any open world PvP on PvE maps won’t happen in this game.
Open world PvP you CAN’T AVOID GRIEFING – even if there were penalties some people don’t care and that is what they want to do.
the last things we need is more PvP stuff. Especially in our PvE world.

Well – since PvP is not an option in open world beyond WvW and sPvP (something they put a lot of design time into) We don’t have to worry about it.

GW2 pve is designed around being cooperative. In order to incorporate open world pvp they would need to restructure their base code for the open world, a huge undertaking by itself and would completely redesign how the game players.
Things like not needing to group, and nearby shouts and boons affecting players without needing to be in that person’s group would either need to be changed, or stripped completely, as an example.
Additionally, in a duel set up, where anyone can currently attack anything someone else is attacking, they would need to build some type of additional system to limit to fight to just the two parties, so others couldn’t jump in at will. Easier said than done, building on top of an existing, semi-non-compatible set up.
Honestly, I’d prefer to see that effort directed towards new maps, more story, new races, etc instead.

That’s why there is PvE and WvW/PvP………when you get tired of one, you do the other.

All open world PvP does is give those who can’t handle PvP against equally geared/equally experienced people in something like WvW a chance to gank people who either a.) are just leveling or mapping, or b.) not interested or experienced in PvP in the slightest, and thus are easy to kill.
It’s the best way to kill a playerbase. PvP is kept separate here, and it should stay like that. I like WvW personally, in groups, but I’m more of a PvE player at heart, and it would ruin the game for me if I had to suddenly avoid any and all players while doing map completions on alts, or watching out for gankers at world bosses. It’s not a fun atmosphere to be in. That sort of environment is why I could never really get into Aion.

Just add few pvp servers,see no harm in having open pvp in a pvp server
GW1 had physical arenas in the world where early-level PvP took place, (until the Zaishen moved everything to the Battle Isles, that is). I don’t think it would be too much of a stretch to have a tiny map somewhere with a single waypoint, with the area being instanced to your party. When you arrive, it’s a private free-for-all between the few of you for as long as you want.
