I’ve done the fractal dungeons for the monthly and I log on to open up WvW chests daily, but that’s all I do on my thief. I convinced myself that maybe when I get to 80, I’ll enjoy Thief more. I was wrong…

Things started out great! I loved the invisible stuffs. The Venoms really looked awesome, but they are not… The Venoms suck hard. I’ve tried using the traits which allow me apply Venoms to my teammates, but the Venoms suck so much that even using that trait is not worth the effort. a

Really, the only thing outside of big spike damage and big DPS that my Thief seems to be able to bring to the table is how I can avoid taking damage by going invisible and that I apply a Blind debuff onto targets (these blind skills have a huge cooldown compared to elementalists! HUGE!). Oh, and I’ve got swiftness almost 24/7… And if I’m in a group I can get 20-25 stacks of might pretty easily (traits & runes cause this)…

But wait! My Thief can grant invisibility to a party… How does that really help outside of Sneaking past monsters or players, especially when your teammates are just going to attack immediately after going invisible which causes your attempt to be completely useless.

Don’t even bring up farming, since Shortbow’s #2 skill, Cluster Bomb, is all you need to farm Orr events. I’m not talking about farming at all in this thread, specifically pve/pvp (more PvE than PvP though).

When I started playing the Thief, I expected something similar to my experience on Final Fantasy XI Online. A class that helps other party members do crits by working together or has skills to help the party like +Magic Find. It isn’t at all what I expected the class to be. I think the only thing I’ve found to be exciting is the Thieves Guild skill, which allows me to make clones!

My Elementalist is crazy fun for me. I can bust out 20 completely different skills in 36 seconds, and even have time to cast a couple of them TWICE… As a Scepter/Dagger user, I have two Group heals and an inherent heal that removes 12 conditions in 4 seconds with a 15 second cooldown. I can summon two pets out with my two Glyph of Elementals. with both glyphs giving a different sized pet than the other, and if I summon two of -+the same element, they apply different buffs/attacks! If I’m not mistaken, it looks like the Ice Greater Elemental actually HEALS nearby allies?? I can even turn into a crazy looking tornado for a few seconds (even though I don’t use it, ever, it is still AWESOME to have in my arsenal for if I ever need Stability).

If you notice, I haven’t even mentioned MOST of the Utility skills I can use on my Elementalist. Conjure skills (dropping temporary weapons like Ice Bow, Flaming Greatsword, Lighting Hammer…), Catnip (Cantrips) skills, The cool Arcane skills.

This isn’t my first experience with the Elementalist. My girlfriend has an 80 Elementalist now and she seems to like Dagger/Dagger even though I’m trying to show her the perks/downsides to other weapon combinations. She kind of wishes she could have pretty butterflies like a Mesmer and is convinced she picked the wrong class. Then again, her idea of fun in this game is harvesting plants, chopping down trees, and collecting dyes…

Elementalist seems to have all the things I really enjoy from past games.

In other games like FFXI, I played Summoner/white mage and Samurai to the max levels at the time (70). Jade Dynasty had had max level (150 ascended) Forta, Celan, and Arden. It City of Heroes before it turned super lame, I had max level (50) Tank, Stalker, Peacebringer, Warshade, Widow, and Controller. I’m not necessarily new to MMORPG’s. Still, I find the Thief to be the least useful class in this game.

ArenaNet can nerf the Thief all they want, I’ve already moved to a BETTER class. Until I see something really usefull come out of the thief class I’m just going to be using this 80 Thief as an extra chance to open Jumping Puzzle chests.

TL;DR – I just wish I had leveled up something else in the past 10 weeks instead of this Thief. What a waste of my time. I just don’t find it fun to play. Compared to all of the other classes, it is by far my least favorite.

AKA you tried a class, didnt like it, and felt the need to complain instead of getting on with your life.

FFXI is a japanese game, and a nice title at that. nothing will be the same, there will not be tanking ninjas, and MF thieves, and boss soloing mages.

this is GW. move on.

Thief is more a PVP class right now than a PVE. Just saying.

Venomancer thief has a ton of utility, and even if you don’t go that route no other class can blanket blind like thieves can with black powder spam.

Spread venoms to up to 5 party members (or NPCs) in a relatively small area, each venom has two charges.

- You can give Basilisk venom five people, and either stun for 1.5 seconds each or strip off 10 stacks of defiant. Probably the only useful application for that skill actually…

- You can permanently keep weakness on a champion, make their auto-attack manageable for even berserkers.

- You can give all your allies 2 stacks of might for each venom. You can group heal with leeching venom, just pop up beside someone and share it with them if they are dying.

- You can give skale venom to everybody and spike up to 20 stacks of vulnerability.

- You can give devourer venom to people, and permanently immobilize a mob. 3 stacks per player, 2 second immobilize, with 5 people that could be 30 seconds.

- Ice drake venom, 4 charges, 1 second, 20 seconds of chill. Its not just a snare, it increases the cooldown on enemy attacks.

Its worth noting that thieves are the only one who can stack immobilize and chill that high.

I’ve also abandoned my thief for an ele! I’m just level 27 atm but I’m pretty sure I’ve had more fun with it than I have in the last 2 months on my thief. :p I just came to realise thiefs can be pretty boring, spamming mostly1-3 skills to do damage. D/D? Spam 1+5. S/D? Spam 1+5. P/D? You guessed it, spam 1+5.

GW2 is a game that supports/encourages playing multiple characters. If you try just one you’ll very quickly run out of anything to do.

Try using pistol offhand. Pistol 5 gives a smoke field that blinds everything for ~3 secs for 5 initiative and you can use combo finishers in it for ranged blinds or my favorite even more stealth.

Um… you are listing all of the skills. Keep in mind you can only slot 5 of them at once, just like any class. The elementals have crappy AI, long recharge and don’t help much. The class has the lowest armor and weakest base health. The 2 heals you mentioned don’t even heal as much damage as you take while executing them, unless perhaps you are specced in healing, in which case good luck in solo content.

Traits are pretty lame and most of them apply only to the attunement you are in. Some are still broken.

The other classes do more damage and have more survivability, ele is just a great support class with nice looking effects. With a lot of skill you can equal some of the other classes (manned by average-skilled players).
