For future reference, understand that the game, its economy, and various game modes, are designed to be lateral to each other. This will make more sense in a second.

No…. the Lvl 80 boost does NOT give you fee stuff, or forcibly catch up old content, because the old content isn’t a requirement to play in newer content. The only existing barrier is the leveling system; which itself only exists as a formality of MMO conventions. Once you hit the level cap, thats it…. there is going no higher. At the same time, you don’t need to be level 80 to play in the other game modes of World vs World, or structured PvP…. as those up max you automatically while you play there.

Since the PvE side of the game is now based on accretion, every new map or story arc introduces a new form of currency unique to that region, all players are normalized going in, and must acquire what they need moving forward.

If you want to do crafting, you have to level them up yourself. You want Karma? You have to start collecting them as you go. When PoF drops, day 1 everyone will be equal on rewards.

Really the only kick start the lvl 80 boost gives you is some lvl 80 gear, to make sure your stat ratios are on par with other level 80 players. But if you want to change stats to refocus your build, you’ll have to attain them separately like everyone else.

You mean lvl 80 boost?
You dont get any crafting or gathering, whatever that means.
It just makes your character lvl 80 and gives you some goodies to get you started that’s about it.

Look at how effective someone is in a full Soldiers set.
Look at how effective someone is in a full Dire set.
Nice balance.

Sounds good….than using the 80 boost does not seem like what I would do….because if I level my crafting harvesting etc. then I would be level 80 anyways just from that xp, but in the end I would have the crafting and harvesting, something I would do after boosting anyway.

To be clear, you don’t lvl gathering or harvesting in this game. You just buy tools of the appropriate lvl and gather stuff. For lvl 80 you’d need orichalcum tools. You can buy them at any merchant.

Crafting, yes, you need to lvl that Two crafting professions per char. You kinda need that for a lot of things in this game.

Are those weapons like Twilight still a thing? They were end game weapons a few years back when I played, I suppose by now they have a new type.

Sadly with the level 80 boost for the Guardian you don’t even get a two handed sword which is what I like to play, they give you a harry potter wand

You’re talking about Legendary Weapons. They have the same power as Ascended weapons, with the bonus that out of combat you can swap their stats for free. They are still very much a thing (in fact Wooden Potatoes is doing an insane contest, grand prize being every legendary weapon in the game, though at least it’s not random luck to win). There is nothing with better stats available. ANet does not want to create a gear treadmill, so they’ve committed to keeping Ascended the BiS.

Nowadays you can craft the precursors for them yourself, once per weapon. The mats grind is as heavy as it ever was to make them, and you do need max crafting to make them. None of which you will get with the 80 boost, other than having an easier time roaming around lower level maps gathering mats. The boost will let you get into the lucrative maps sooner, though, which might help the process if you work on making enough gold to get the mats needed.

But here is a strong reason -not- to boost to 80 and run off to the hardest maps: You won’t know what you’re doing. You won’t be geared properly unless you somewhat blindly follow someone else’s advice. There are frequent forum posts complaining that it’s impossible to survive in the HoT maps (it isn’t, far from it, but you do need to use more of your skill bar and also get to know the mobs’ patterns and abilities).

You’ll get the hang of it all; it’ll all still be waiting for you later on. No need to push to max everything out in a short time.
