One thing the people wanting WoW-esque gear progression and “endgame” content are misunderstanding, is that the current design allows content to continually be actual content.

For example, look at WoW. When was the last time you did Kara? Do you find yourself spending much time doing BC dungeons, or flying around BC areas after you outlevel it? Nope. Even current expansion content becomes obsolete, or merely a stepping stone. The first raid of an expansion is irrelevant by the end of that expansion.

With horizontal progression instead of vertical, content always remains viable. Three content updates and 2 expansions later, and Twilight Arbor will still be viable content. People will still be able to play in Orr and not just be wasting their time.

The amount of content grows rather than merely shifting to a new set of content while obsoleting the old. A year or two from now, the game will literally be 2 to 3 times the size it is now. Compared to WoW which is still more or less the same size it has always been…get to max level, and only have 1 raid and maybe 2 dungeons that are relevant.

Though, admittedly it will be interesting to see how this works in concept.

Guild Wars, this was true, as you could do all of the content in the game solo and the number of people there was irrelevant. In Guild Wars 2, doing group events solo is very unlikely, and doing dungeons requires other people.
