I’m quite new to Guild Wars 2, however, I am an avid fan of the lore, and I enjoy the game. One of the primary reasons I purchased the game was the opportunity of roleplay. I am a veteran roleplayer of World of Warcraft, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Guild Wars (Prophecies). However, I am finding myself generally ignored in roleplay. I have attempted to interact with several people, but I am simply disregarded. My current character is decently low-level, only being around level 20. Most people I see roleplaying are level 60+. Is there a ‘level-restriction’ on being accepted into roleplay? I get quite frustrated when this occurs, because I thoroughly enjoy roleplay, and I hate being left out. Must I level my character before I roleplay? Is there something I could do that would get me accepted into a roleplay?

A lot of people tend to RP with people they know. Have you thought about joining an RP guild?

^ level has little to do with role play, unless people want to roleplay outside the cities and it may prove hazardous for the lower leveled

I made an attempt to join one, but the venture failed. I am anxious to reach out again. The guild leader I talked to seemed very diffident to let join his guild, due to my level, it seems.

Most of the roleplay I want to take place in occurs within Divinity’s Reach.

I think you should go into LA (everyone can get there) stand around and talk to people until you find the guild that’s right for you.

It’s also a relatively fast game to level in, so you might one to work on that in the mean time.

+1 to Vayne for sound advice. And I intend to level my character in the mean time. Is Lion’s Arch an area where roleplayers of all levels meet?

LA is pretty much the central hub of the entire game. Also make sure you’re not in an overflow server…it’ll say overflow on your minimap if you are.

Basically every single race has it’s own starting area, but everyone is funneled into LA at level 30ish. Which means it’s the place where all five races come together. It’s also not a racial city but run by a Council of Captains, and all races are represented on that council.

Finally the entrance to Fractals of the Mists is here, as well as the Mystic Forge, so it’s a place lots of people congregate.

Good luck!

I would appreciate further guidance with Lion’s Arch. I just did a walk around the city, but I couldn’t find any roleplay. This is probably due to my lack of knowledge of the city’s hotspots, not due to the lack of roleplay.

One thing that annoyed me in SWTOR when attempting to rp there. As soon as you refer to current events. You get a bunch of cry baby low levels yelling at you “STOP SPOILING THE STORY I HAVEN’T LEVELED TO THAT POINT YET!”

Yeah. No.

I believe most RP takes place in Divinity’s Reach.

You did not mention which server you are on, however, I do believe Tarnished Coast is the unofficial RP server, so you may want to try guesting there and check out the community!

Good luck with your RP adventures!

EDIT: I just noticed the (TC) in your topic, so I guess you are on Tarnished Coast after all?

To clear some things up, I play on Tarnished Coast (hence, TC), but I am having trouble finding roleplay in Divinity’s Reach.

I didn’t say go to LA to RP. I said go there to find a guild because it’sa hub of people not RPers. If you say in map chat, I’m looking for an RP guild that accepts low level characters, you’ll undoubtedly get responses.

Talk to people. You don’t have to jump into the first RP guild you run into. Try to see what RP guild fits you.

You’re still talking about looking for randoms to RP with. I’m still talking about the best way for you to find a guild. Then you’ll know where they RP because they’ll tell you. lol

Most roleplaying does occur within Divinity’s Reach, although you’ll occasionally find roleplayers scattered across . The following site also serves as a networking site for roleplayers to find each other, organise events, and join guilds:

A friend was talking about this problem just the other day…

Having more levels on a character shows that you’re serious about them. That you’re invested in that character, and not likely to just delete them or play them only on a rare whim. It also keeps down on the instances of “Level 5 God” that was the occasional bane of RP in City of Heroes. No, you can’t play a god in GW2 like you could in CoH, but the same effect is there.

Basically, it’s an effect you get when RPers have been burned by bad RP experiences that they’ve come to associate with lower level characters.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

This is a very common complaint, in regards to RP. However, levels really shouldn’t matter, they are out of character and the only thing they restrict you from is RPing in higher level areas.

If you move into a new area or job, in RL, how long does it take you to make friends with people? Rarely is it on first contact. Take a few days to look around the areas which act as a hub on your server. Try visiting the taverns in Divinity’s Reach, for example (not advisable if you are a Charr). Buy a drink, perhaps smile at the person standing next to you and generally behave as you would in RL, when socialising.

You have to meet people half way, you can’t expect them to welcome you with open arms when they have never met you before. So be prepared to visit the same venue a few times before others start to recognise you.

Look for an RP guild that is active in your play times, before joining see if you can find any of them in action to see if their style matches yours. Do a little research, check the cabal forums on this site, also those on the TSW RP site.

There are also many different styles of RP, but as the OP has RPed in several MMOs, they would be aware of this, but it is worth taking time to look around for those with a similar style. For example, my community are OOC when questing and our plots take us across Tyria (currently camped in the Shiverpeaks). This means we aren’t around the main RP hubs for most of the time, which doesn’t suit many RPers.

I hope you soon find a friendly bunch to RP with
