Level cap raise and the gear treadmill
I wouldn’t mind a level increase (to 90) if all we get from it is 10 additional trait points and utilities/elite skills which you can only use at that level. I don’t want higher stats and all this mmo bs.
No they didn’t state that. Source or it never happened.
Personally the major selling factor that pulled me over was the promise of no fear treadmill and if you want to go hardcore on Legendaries, you only need to repeatedly slap yourself with a wet fish once instead of doing it every 3 months like other MMOs.
more trait points would equate to higher stats as you’d have an extra trait to equip.
As far as I’m concerned they never said that they planned to increase the level cap, but just that they weren’t completely against it.

I would much prefer not to see a level increase, and no further armor tiers/treadmill. As it is I feel we have too many levels, and too many armor tiers.
I much prefer Factions or Nightfall style play (level fully or nearly to max in the ‘beginner/tutorial’ area, and then complete the majority of the story at max) vs the Prophecies type play (like here, where we level through the entire story).
I don’t want to have to continuously worry about having to level my character anytime an expansion comes out.

that’s minor and gives more choice for trait combinations.
I don’t recall the dev’s ever stating that they would raise the level cap. (So source please)
And while I don’t have a source either, I can vaguely remember them saying that they will never raise the level cap. And more concretely remember that no new gear tier will ever be introduced.

There was one on an Anet blog as well but I can’t find it. I know it’s a third-party source but the site is quite reputable and the same thing has been echoed on others.
Thanks for the source, but ugh that’s unfortunate. I thought they would have stayed “true” (at least after Ascended gear) to the old gw1 horizontal >> vertical progression.
Also more levels means all of our laurel/expensive items become useless, and we’ll have a long time to wait for skills to become balanced again. Bleh, not looking forward to that.
I remember reading about lvl cap increases in some PC gamer magazine a long time ago, but most of what I read in that long article was false anyway. Something I remember quite clearly was we were going to have some sort of hero/henchy system where instead of hiring 7 we could only bring along 1 of our choosing like a sidekick to help us solo certain parts of the game obviously that never happened.
I wouldn’t read much into anything you hear about, since everything has been subject to change ever since pre launch to today.
Hmm, they did say that they were against the carrot method of vertical character progression in their looking forwards in 2013 article and would focus character progression on obtaining new skills and traits rather than gear, maybe that’s a sign of them realising that the majority of players would hate a gear-level increase and it would pretty much turn the game slowly into the typical WoW-clone you see for a pound a dozen on the MMO market.
And no, history has proven you can’t out-WoW WoW because Blizzard will always do it better than you (and likely has a bigger budget to do so).
Level cap raises seem to go against Guild Wars in general. I like the idea of unlocking new skills as one would have done in GW1, but I’m happy that I don’t need to relevel, regear. I played WoW since Launch and every expansion its a bit more ridiculous. DPS calculated in the millions??
