I have a friend that I just got into playing GW2 a few days before Wintersday released. We finally got all the Wintersday meta done as well as the chain so that they could have the Tree of Generosity in their instance. They finally got above lvl 30 yesterday so I thought I would get them out to Frostgorge Sound so that they could work on the Frozen Claw achievement as they are wanting to try for the shoulders by next year. They were able to get the ground chest at the end but did not receive any credit towards the achievement for killing Jormag. Does anyone know what level you have to be to get credit? They were in the area from the beginning and came up and fought Jormag for the 2 burns up on the hill. When Jormag goes down to the bottom of the other hill they stayed and helped fight the Icebrood elementals etc because it was too hard to keep them alive after the 3rd burn with the DoT that pops up the closer you are to Jormag.

I think that you can technically be any level, however at lvl 30 you will be doing so little damage in a level 80 event that it would be extremely difficult for your friend to receive credit towards the event and achievement.

You also have to do the claw of jormag three times in order to get the achievement that is probably why your friend didn’t get it. On the third time completing it they should get the item they need. Just like you had to finish the bell choir and jumping puzzle three times.

@suffish, that may be a distinct possibility however, if that is the case I don’t understand why they would have gotten enough credit to get the floor chest at the end but not progress towards the achievement.

@ElijahFitzroy, I understand what you are saying and I appreciate the feedback but they did not even get any progress towards the achievement. You can view your progress by looking in the achievement section in your hero window. If it was simply that they needed to do it 3 times then they would be on 2/3 progress instead of 1/3 showing that they had not received credit for any kills at all.

Possibly some bad news here. Aside from the potential of damage being too low, credit may be tied to doing an actual hit. At level 30, he might have been doing only Glancing hits, and those don’t count toward getting XP, though I’m unsure about overall event credit.

Jessyager: So your friend would have a 100% chance for a glancing blow.

A glancing hit, also known as a glancing blow or simply as glancing, is a game mechanic that causes an attack to deal only 50% of regular damage and lose any critical damage

Therefore doing No critical damage and only Half normal damage would make it somewhat hard to get credit for the event where most other players are doing Level 80 damage.

The threshold for getting credit for the chest and getting credit for the event are not the same.

Lvl 30 in a lvl 80 zone???
You will pretty much get one shotted and your hits will be like a soft toy hitting an armored tank

Maybe the solution is for him to spend the next couple of weeks leveling and spend the last week of the festival getting the Achievement.

Fair enough, that all makes sense. So for those of you who are good with all the numbers and mechanics what would the lowest feasible level be to get credit for the achievement? Someone said 74 would that be the lowest or is there a reasonable chance at like 60 or something?

Why don’t you just get him to 80? , the event lasts till 12 January, pretty sure he can do it

if you glance all your attacks you probably won’t get credit for the kill

Map exploration + events in the maps + dailies = lvl 80 in a bit over 1 week. With 3 weeks left they could easily get lvl to 80 and do the achievement. And they could try to get it as soon as they hit 60+. Jormag is several times/day…
