Leveling is a chore.
Well done. About 1% of everyone who plays MMORPGs probably likes questing more than endgame content, pvp etc.
This is perhaps the most egregious claim to know things about a game population I’ve ever seen on a forum.
As to the OP’s issue… well, I can see how wandering through mid-range areas like Kessex, Snowden, etc. can result in the feeling that there are not enough events there. However, I think this is also somewhat situational. There are times when this is my experience and times when it feels like I trip over an event every 100 yards.
My second necro made level 39 last night, and has yet to “complete” any zone other than Queensdale. I’m enjoying the leveling, even if I have 9 slots (5 80’s). If I ever feel like I’m getting bored, I stop playing for a while. Still, my enjoyment may be someone else’s chore.
Just again realised how foolish it is to compare skyrim to guild wars 2 and think they are similar. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Leveling my first character to 80 was easy, I was exploring the game as much as I could.
But leveling alts is really boring since I already explored the game on my first character, give or take 2-3 zones. I might wanna go level in a zone I think is fun, But I cant reallt since im not the correct level.
Don’t tell me “you can level through crafting/gathering/dungeons too”, Cause ALL of that is included in the term exploring.

I have to admit, once you get past level 10, the leveling slows down exponentially. I’ll probably get 1 level an hour of dedicated play. The dynamic events are fun, but I wanna quest, and it sucks to do all the hearts in a certain area, but still be two levels below before you can actually move on, and in this game, two levels makes all the difference when fighting a mob, because they hit harder. and you have to deal with glancing blows. I came from WoW and I could play maybe one day a week and gain 3 levels, either through BG’s, dungeons, or questing and this could be done even without today’s current heirlooms. Cooking is a decent way to get exp, but then you run of out food. back to the fields to harvest, or to buy off the AH, or Karma or whatever. I have looked all over for the quickest way to get to 80. upscaled WvW isn’t fun, and I have my bg fix from WoW. /shrug I’ll push past it because I Enjoy the game, but It is a wall I wish I could climb faster.
It was a chore in the beta, it was a chore when it was released and it still is a bloody chore. Why is it a chore? For starters, only three zones in the entire game have enough variation and contrast to provide the player with a feeling of wanderlust. Namely Straits of Devastation, Malchor’s Leap and Cursed Shore.
Really? You and I apparently have vastly different perceptions of contrast, because all I see in those three zones is a pile of dead things here, some coral there, undead versions of kitten everything trying to kill you. I love the zones, don’t get me wrong, but they’re all more similar to each other than any two other zones in the game.
I do agree to an extent that levelling is a chore, but only if you see it as levelling as a means to an end, level 80. If you focus on what’s at hand, instead of “Man, i can’t wait until I get access to my elites.” then it’s a lot more enjoyable, IMO. Though this is bound to happen after you roll an alt. It’s a design aspect of the game. Not a particularly bad aspect, since getting 10000 possible skills to choose from at the beginning of the game would turn an incredible amount of people away.
I think it takes more than the first 15 levels to decide on a build, at least for some people, including me. I mean I played d/d for the first 25 levels or so, then p/p for 20 more levels, then s/p for 40 levels, and I currently run s/d and shortbow.
Though one thing I would like to see is the max level be much lower, and easily attainable by finishing the starter zone. The rest of the world would be the same difficulty, and it would eliminate the need for scaling completely. That way, people who don’t want to spend their entire careers levelling don’t have to, and people who want to spend more time honing their skills in the PvE realm can do so.
I’ve made 47 levels in something like three to four weeks and I’m still not tired of my thief. Admittedly, it has been harder to pick up the mesmer I re-re-rolled, but I think that mostly has to do with that she just seems so vanilla at level 4.

I bounced from weapon set to weapon set before I finally settled on a P/D and shortbow condition build at 46 myself. Once you get a good set of slot skills and start building on your master traits, that’s when the picture starts to get clearer.
