I am still leveling up my first (hopefully) toon to 80, and I was wondering if it is worth buying runes or whatever to put in the “upgrade slots” (1 or 2) that some equipment has. Some pieces, as is likely known, already have something, and I did buy some cheap Bloodlust sigils for my daggers to help my survivability on my elementalist.

However, I have not really put in any of the items I’ve found (or crafted as a jeweler) into my equipment because I figure it’s probably not worth it until 80. Am I off base here?

Not really since you level so quickly. I usually upgrade my weapon every 10 levels and my armor every 20 levels.

I upgrade my armor to whatever im at at level 39 for major runes and my weapons at level 16, 24, 39, 50, 63.

I tend to buy the next batch of gear each 10 levels if I haven’t gotten close-enough drops. Runes and sigils if they drop. I only get rare gear of the pieces I use, keeping greens/blues for alternate weapons in case I just want the option to change up my weapon for a fight.

I don’t claim this is most efficient, but it works for me. Most of the content does not need you in the best gear for your level.

The only upgrade component that I go out of my way to use is Sigil of Speed. While leveling you kill tons of stuff, get tons of swiftness, get to your next kill quicker. Really helpful.

Possibly get another nice On Kill sigil, possibly heal on kill, but it doesn’t matter too much.

I usually put in some cheap stuff (no more than 30c per rune/sigil) while levelling. Whether or not it’s the most efficient way, I don’t know – but it’s cheap and better than an empty slot.

While yes, you are correct that you most likely will be leveling fast enough to not worry about it, I say have a bit of fun while leveling. Find some minor or major runes that all have a power boost but are different types, a rune of Hoelbrak, Strength and so on…and just max your power. I don’t think it makes as much of a difference in the mid levels as it does early on….but I think there is some increase.

I used to buy runes and sigils while leveling. However leveling happens so fast that I don’t bother anymore. If I get a rune or sigil from salvaging or an upgrade from a chest or harvesting I’ll use it. Otherwise I don’t bother too much with them.

I cant remember the exact levels, but about 2-4 levels into every 10th from 20 (ie 24ish, 34ish, 44ish, etc) there will be fresh green gear that last you the next 10 levels easy. Between that, dont bother buying anything, just replace as you go.

As Ayrilana said , weapon 10 lvl armor 20, and when you reach lvl 50 you can just explore low level areas till you hit 80
