Levelling up too fast (feedback)
Your level is always adjusted to the area you are currently in. You will never be able to be a higher level than you’re supposed to while doing stuff.
Edit: Hence if the level you see is not a “proposes” level, you will be lowered that level.
Leave it to A-net to decide whether the suggestion is possible or not.
It would be great for farming lower level mats like linen.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
you get down scaled.
seems like a waste of dev time to implement this tbh.
Though idk if they explained down scaling to new players.

It doesn’t matter if you’re level 18 or 20 or 40 in a 1-15 zone. You can just do the content. The game isn’t necessarily designed to lock you out of content because you’re a higher level.
You’re putting pressure on yourself. The game isn’t pressuring you to move on. Play how you like and ignore the number.

Not true.
When you down level you will be the highest level allowed in the area. It usually mean 1-3 levels higher than most mobs and the quests in the area. Sure it’s not as over powerful as most games have, but you are much more powerful than a normal character of the mobs level.
Doing map completion on my level 80 Ranger was really boring in below 50 zones, as I had to stop from time to time from killing to allow my skill cool downs to catch up. Most times my pet didn’t have time to get even a single hit. Tell me that’s not over powerful to the level.
When I was leveling in the areas I was powerful, but nothing compared to going back down leveled.
In beta I was crying against the too fast leveling, as I have done in over dozen other betas, I have had access to. There is always a small group that want the leveling to be slower and give us time to enjoy the journey to max level. Too bad we are such a small minority.
Games would have much longer life times if the journey to max level would need 3 months of extensive gaming and not 3 days.
Yes, everyone can level at any pace they want, but always brushing through all the resistances is boring and no challenge.
GW2 did it right on the point that you will be down leveled if you are too high level, they just should have down level even more. But that’s just my opinion.
If games required that much time to level the player base would be much smaller. Something like that may have worked a decade ago but now it is too time intensive. Since big name MMOs have set the stage for Endgame as the start of meaningful gameplay, the longer it takes to get to max level the more players you will hemohrrage during the leveling process. Leveling has always been an arbitrary progression system for RPGs and I think it should get the boot (or take as little time as possible). But that’s just like, my opinion man.
It’s the run to the endgame and PvP that ruins many games. GW2 has no need to rush to the endgame for PvP as all are on equal footing there, almost same in WvW (at least it used to be, before they nerfed the trait and skill unlocks in last patch).
I would like to see end of level gated MMO’s too, I did like the sandbox skill tree of SWG and the myriad of possibilities it gave. But players need to feel progression and it’s easiest to do by levels.
I’m currently stuck and things are becoming dull because I want to keep my necro (my only non-80; i have 7 of those) lower leveled- preferably below 50 for the loot rewards, and because once I hit 80 everything starts to feel the same. I like having the room for progress, like there is something more to do, rather than feeling i’ve already done everything and i’m finished with the game.
But I can’t unlock even master traits until 60- which means outside of spvp my necro is mostly disabled. Even if I did take him into wvw or eotm for example just for a change of pace and to learn necro’s role in large scale pvp (the reason I rolled one to begin with), I risk him leveling way too fast and missing out on the enjoyment of slowly growing. I would roll another toon to keep lower but I now have every single class and race and have 0 desire to repeat one, especially with all the level gating and trait lockdown, so I won’t be buying another character slot ( I used to keep an open one at all times, for keyfarming. Filled it and haven’t bought a new one since september patch).
So it’s basically just solo or team pvp all day with some reserved pve exploration here and there. Day after day of hours of conquest mode and it’s getting boring. But it’s the only way I can play without leveling up (aside from activities, or playing another character- not the one I’m enjoying the most).
I know it’s not how everyone else feels about leveling (some of my friends would give an arm and leg for the 240+ tomes of knowledge I dont have any use for). But I sympathize with OP and think rushing people to 80 undermines the journey there.

Not exactly the best solution but you can go with worse equipment. Worst possible: No Armor, no Amulet/Rings/Accessories with lvl 0 basic Weapon.
The thing is.., the lower levels are boring now. Without traits leveling is nothing but a race to 80.
Since the changes to trait levels and acquisition, leveling should definitely not be slower than it currently is. It’s painfully tedious to level characters now.
Even before traits were changed, though, the quick leveling was one of my favorite aspects of the game as a new player.

Anet has already slowed leveling down so much. What else can they do? “Everyone now gets 1 exp for everything they do no matter what lvl you are. Now it takes 2,000,000 exp to get to lvl 2 and 800,000,000 to get to lvl 80!”
I remember when making a new character when I got burnt out on the one I was playing was fun. Now it’s “Yay I have to grind non-stop to get to the lvl to have the stuff unlock that use to be unlock 10 or 20 lvls ago. Now I have to grind to get to the lvl to have the playing experience I use to enjoy personally before September!”
By the time I did all that grinding I’m once again burnt out on the game and take another break. Then come back to find out Anet made the lvl experience even bloody slower.
go with less armor it will get harder.
I’m sorry that you enjoy leveling but unfortunately (for you) most of us don’t. I like your solution except I have 4 scrolls of level 20 sitting in my bank that explain why they won’t make this change.
As for the down scaling… I’d rather they do it all the way (actually on par with players in the area) or not at all (too late now but still)

I would venture to guess that most of us do enjoy leveling. Maybe not the forum warriors that feel the NPE absolutely ruined leveling (when in reality, after all of the knee-jerk reactions/conjecture died down, it was clear the changes made it far better, but that’s besides the point).
People like to level faster rather than slower. That’s just the way it is nowadays. People need instant-gratification.
I’d hate to see how Lineage2 would have fared if it were released today, that was the slowest leveling of any game I’ve ever played. And omg the steep death penalties and open world PvP. So hardcore.

I think when it comes to the new NPE leveling most players fall into the category of I don’t care, we don’t love it when it comes to the hand holding but we don’t hate it because the game is still playable but certain things still need to be work on.
The main problem with the NPE is it makes bringing up a new character tedious since a lot of stuff is now level lock and leveling has been slowed down.

Have you even tried it? Levelling was sped up and, overall, the levelling experience to 80 is barely any different than it was since the Traits update.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

Except that is untrue. The newly level locked features are unlocked at very early gameplay times (~60-90min) even sooner for Veteran players that at this point have several instant level 20 scrolls, you pretty much bypass all of it. And leveling is faster than its ever been. It’s comments like yours that contribute to the misinformation going around about NPE.
If people would take the time to actually experience it, perhaps they would see it for what it is.
