Lifetime Survivor Issue
We also just noticed that they took a whole lot of our achievement points…
What the heck. :/
Why would you want to re-roll a character because you die once?
Im not quite sure if we are talking about the same achievement here. But the “Lifetime Survivor” achievement under the “Hero” tab just resets your current exp to 0 when you die. It does not matter how often you die. Upon death, your current exp goes to 0 and you start from scratch, but in no way does it prevent you from completing the achievement.
The only confusing part could be, that the progress bar shows the furthest achieved exp, not the current exp, so it may appear, that after a death, the exp does not count towards the achievement, but it does and will be visible, once you get past the furthest exp.
Crafting is the easiest way to get lifetime survivor. Just go gather lots of mats (or buy them) and craft your way up.
Yeah, they learned their lesson from GW1 survivor title. Glad to hear it was fixed.

That’s the one I’m talking about.
So you know this for sure? It’s not like in guild wars one where it was done if you died?
Every time you die, it resets to 0. You need something like 250,000 exp points to finish it off. You can get that at any time, even after 80 since they don’t cap your exp gain.
They list your previous best attempt as the number above the bar. That’s not where your at, but the furthest you’ve gotten toward your goal.
Now even in guild wars one it resets to 0 and you can try it again. It was changed some months ago.

Oh wow.
Did not know that!
I feel like things are a little better, but at the same time I’m a tad bit sad that those people who managed to get it the first time around don’t get that distinction now.
I feel relief, regardless. I was pretty fumie when I thought that none of us would have had a chance at it because of the lack of announcement.
I just got the Achievement after logging in after the patch. Was quite surprised to see it pop up so unexpectedly.
So I guess they fixed it.
Yeah, they learned their lesson from GW1 survivor title. Glad to hear it was fixed.
Honestly getting the survivor title on a Prophecies Elementalist before the change and without using Kilroy Stonekin’s Punch-Out Extravaganza! was one of the most satisfying challenges I’ve ever done in a game.
I don’t care much that they changed it because I did it for my personal satisfaction and nothing else (though the bombardment of ‘gratz’ from strangers was awesome too). Now if you want survivor in GW1 you just stockpile books and go zero to legendary in about 10 minutes. Kind of lame, imho.
On Topic: Yay it’s fixed!! (if only my ranger was too)

On the other hand, dying with 1,250,000 XP is the worst feeling ever.

Its even worse when it happens because your internet connection drops out. I just about threw my laptop off the balcony.
It’s working, and it’s just like the old monthly. Freezes if you die, log out/zone and you gotta restart from tier.
makes error code dc’s more fun.
I polished off my leatherworking to 400 and was up to 390,000 of 500,000.
Then there was an emergency patch with a 3 minute warning.
I still haven’t died, but when I was able to log back in, my progress towards the achievement just stopped.
It’s a bit frustrating as the last points of a tradeskill are the most expensive and useful to get this achievement, and now my leatherworking is wasted.
And what about the already earned XP so far? I have a char at level 21, never died and my counter starts at 0?
I would appreciate adding the already earned XP to the progress.
Hmm, I don’t see why he would need to reroll at al.
I only noticed it was working when I reached 250k XP and got the 1st tier, getting the final 500k tier was just as easy, all you need is a lv80 toon and you’re set, it can be done in less than 2 hours.
I was almost at the goal of lifetime survivor, when the game disconnected and nothing was going on in the area. I’m really peeved about this achievement as it is still bugged.
The big thing with it is the 500,000xp for maxing the title currently only works on these conditions:
1. All 500,00xp is acquired on the same map
2. You must complete all 500,000xp in a single sitting
Please fix this. I’m very tired of almost getting the 500,000xp then getting disconnected or logging out and the progress not continuing when I log back in. Also please make this work over multiple maps. Seriously, please fix this.
i got up to 201,144 xp last night, pinging the second tier (i guess). i died shortly after, and now my counter is stuck at the current number. i tried for about an hour to get the numbers rolling again with kills and events last night, but it’s stuck, even after client restarts this morning.
First tier = 100k
Second Tier = 200k
Third Tier = 500k? < max tier?
My menu showed only 2 tiers and the last one as Latinkuro and rgrwng said it require 500k exp.
Somehow I’m liking this new system more than gw1, due to it being more casual player friendly. And at least it make people want to do it to some extent thus promoting smart play. But on the other hand it could also promote the alt+f4. kitten to the ying yang effect hehe.
PS: Mine is also stuck (just like rgrwng’s situation) ever since my death a few minutes ago.

I seriously HATE ArenaNet now. Was at 67% of the survivor title, and they forced the map closed, so that I could not continue. This then RESET the title track. How the H*** is this even entertaining? I know this title is supposed to be difficult to get, but this is PURE EVIL.
It is also not healthy to sit down physically inactive for hours. Now I just want to punch someone… Yes if you didn’t get it Arenanet, I’m angry with you!!!

Just a question.. Doest it reset to zero, or do I at least get to continue from 200K? If not then the tier part has no meaning.
Are you Lv80? It takes about an hour or two of doing events/mobs in a starter area, that’s not that hard to get at all. If you want to do it easy, buy crafting mats and level up through crafting in different disciplines.
I got it by leveling some craft or other on a char. I don’t even know what, it just appeared in my title list one day and I figured out that’s how I got it.
All you need is the exp. Get a crafting booster and level some crafts until you get it. As Thanatos said, you can switch between crafting disciples to get the cheap levels done.
ANet may give it to you.
What was with the necrobump?

I guess he didn’t want to make a new thread. They suggest looking for previous threads on the same subject, though I doubt they meant 2 years ago. Lol.

Pretty easy in Cursed Shore too. Did it twice without even trying. Second time was because of the bug that set a bunch of achievements back by 1.
I have it completed, and I don’t even know how I did it, or when =D , and I am a casual player. Don’t worry about it, just play the game, and you’ll get it without even having to try.

They didn’t reset the title track. That was something that happened 2 years ago and was subsequently fixed. (I’m mostly replying for the sake of others who wonder why this older post was resurrected.)
As others have said, it’s not all that kitten a L80 toon. You can even do it using leveling consumables or via crafting.
Isn’t the point of this title to have survived combat for an extensive time? Getting it through crafting seems more like getting it for nitting socks. Not really a combat veteran then… I think they have som real work to do with this title for it to actually mean that one is hard to kill. And I realize this is a lot quicker to get at lvl 80 due to the difference in experience one gets at that time.
The reason for the “necrobump” is that I don’t consider this issue solved. The least they could do is inform about the actual requirements for this title. It is really not funny to realize that one cannot log off and continue the title the next day… Maybe they should call it the Marathon Title?

There is no title for that achievement, you just get achievement points.
Just run champ trains in Orr.
I got the Achievement without doing anything special from a champ train.

The issue in November 2012, which when this thread is from, was that some players had a bug where progress would not restart after a player had died. The bar would stay at 0. The people early on in this thread were complaining that they had to make a new toon each time they wanted to try again. Unless you have some new evidence, the issue is solved.
Moving on to your complaint, that the requirements for the title weren’t made clear. I’m looking at the achievement, and it says “Gain 500,000 experience without dying or changing maps.” That seems pretty clear. The only difficulty is that you didn’t realise that changing shards on the megaserver counts as changing maps. Perhaps that’s not intuitively obvious, but it is how the game’s infrastructure works. Now that you know, you shouldn’t have the same trouble the next time you try for it.
I never heard of this achievement but when I looked I’ve got it. It would be nice if it would show when that occurred and on which character.
Edit: From reading about Orr it could have been when my mesmer got 100% map completion when she finished Cursed Shore.

Thank you all for the input. Apparently I have misunderstood this. Thought it was a title like in the original Guild Wars. I’m still not happy about it, but at least I know how this works now. Will let this one rest until it suddenly pops up at a later time.
