In trying to decide whether to just get the standard or deluxe, I don’t really care about the other upgrades in deluxe but if the Lily of the Elon Permanent Pass was really handy then I might go that route.

But can we get a better idea of what it is? Seems just like a city with bank/vendors/BL, so why would I need/want it?
Is this a teleport stone to that place or something?
Can you get there any other way?

What I wonder, if I decide to buy the expansion, is if the pass will remain exclusive to those that bought Deluxe/Ultimate or if they will end up selling it as a separate item in the gem store later. I’m with you, the other upgrade items don’t do much for me but if I decide to buy the expansion the pass and gems is probably what will get me to buy the Ultimate package. I know in the past they have not sold upgrade package items separately but with this being a pass I do have some concerns.

Presumably it is a teleport to a little area in the expansion with bank, TP, crafting, etc all close together. Many of these already exist in the game (Royal Terrace, Havoc’s Heir, Mistlock Sanctuary, Lava Lounge, Noble’s Folly).

Yes, presumably it is, but I’d like to have some actual facts before I decide to spend the extra $25 US for that bonus.

Don’t spend $25 just for this. Such items cost 1000 gems. This should cost you $12.5 on full price (thinking 800 gems cost $10).

Minor correction – the other permanent passes have cost 1000 gems each.

But yeah, if it’s literally the only thing in the Deluxe Edition you want then you’re better off buying the normal edition and getting either this pass or another one from the gem store.

Just for your information, you can’t currently use the pass yet. You have to play the first episode of the expansion first in order to use it (or so it says ingame). So if you go for the ultimate version for the pass, you would have to wait a month and 22 days (at least).

I think it’s worth. I’ll bet all my marbles Anet makes it only available to ultimate edition (which is pretty much only available during pre-order right?). It’s 1000 gems normal price which is about half the extra price you’re paying, but this also includes 4000 gems which is worth 50$.

So if you like convenience (and they said this pass has something extra that the others don’t have. Since it’s the first pof pass, I assume it’s something new implemented in pof) and you want gems for a really nice price, definitely choose ultimate.

I have the Royal Terrace pass but it seems the newer passes have been adding more features to them so my poor old RT pass has been falling behind in features. So if it is exclusive to the upgrade packages it will be more interesting to me. I like less crowed “special” places.

Those items, if like other upgraded packages, will still be available after pre-purchase. From the sales page these are the items limited to pre-purchase:

Pre-purchase: Receive a Miniature Balthazar, the “Elonian Envoy” title, and a Sunspear Weapon Skin of your choice.

And the pre-purchase bonuses I listed above apply to Standard as well.

In my opinion Royal Terrace pass beats every other pass currently in game, because it has the shortest distance between TP – bank – mystic forge. Royal Terrace has the least amount of walking between those 3 points.

Besides, Royal Terrace was released in GW2 core game, not HoT or PoF, and is located in Divinity Reach, providing a chance to meet more people than other locations.

Compared to other special passes it does not offer features like low gravity, but it gets the job done fast and efficient.

The Deluxe upgrades for both the base game and HoT are still available in the gem store (note: if you already have the Deluxe Edition of HoT you won’t see it listed, but it’s there for other people). They’ve already said there will be a Deluxe Upgrade for PoF too, so these items will be available after release.

Whether the pass will be sold separately is another matter. I had assumed it would be, but the only other Deluxe edition item which is in the gem store is the banker golem. (And character slots, but those were in the gem store first so I’m not counting them.)

So I suppose it’s possible this pass will be exclusive to people who own the Deluxe edition. But that will be everyone who owns it – it won’t matter if you pre-purchased it on day 1 or bought it 2 years later with gems you bought with gold – you’ll get the exact same items and functionality.

Minor correction – the other permanent passes have cost 1000 gems each.

But yeah, if it’s literally the only thing in the Deluxe Edition you want then you’re better off buying the normal edition and getting either this pass or another one from the gem store.

What do the newer areas have that the Royal Terrace doesn’t? I haven’t got any of them but I was under the impression they all had the same services and it was only the appearance of the area and the location on the world map that was different.

I know some people are adamant that one is better but it’s usually for highly personal reasons like the tailoring station is nearer the TP and they buy more materials when crafting light armour than anything else so that makes it better for them.

See I’m thinking the opposite. One of the advantages of these areas to me is a free ‘waypoint’ to a location on the map. Even if it’s not my final destination it can get me closer and therefore save some money on waypoint fees (especially if it gets me close enough to run the rest of the way).

Therefore the Royal Terrace is redundant because it’s in a city I can already reach fairly quickly from anywhere in the world (via WvW or PvP). But one all the way down in Elona will give me a free teleport to the new maps which would otherwise be one of the most remote regions.

You can already upgrade to premium ingame for 2400 gems. Not sure if everybody sees the offer or only those who already pre-ordered, but I have the item “Deluxe Upgrade” in the ingame store. It contains the VIP-Pass, a character slot, that armor skin and an identity repair kit.

I’m pretty sure you will be able to get the VIP-Pass after the launch. Not an official statement of course, I just don’t see why they wouldn’t sell it like the other VIP Lounge passes.

For my family, it’s going to be ultimate package for everyone. We can live without the new armor skin, spearmarshals presence. Seems like they put little work into a existing armor skin and renamed it. Not impressed with that. And the permanent pass is still a question mark. However the $50 worth of gems in the ultimate makes it worth it. If their selling POF for $30, then technically I’m not paying for the character slot, identity kit, lame armor skin, or the permanent pass. Anet is just throwing those in for free. So since I’ve been wanting another character slot for Christmas, this is a more cost effective way to get what I’ve been wanting to do anyway. So Christmas for my family is coming very early this year. Oh well, nobody here will mind.

It’s not devious, it’s just a common pricing strategy, called “price anchoring” or “3-option pricing”. Almost every business does it, and if you started one, you would do it too.

The Captain’s Airship pass has an easy access to Orr too. You can jump out of the ship and glide down to the Vigil keep to enter the portal to Fort Trinity. I have access for all the restricted areas and I think this is the best option for a PvE’r. Think about the dailies. There are some Orr lumberer, vista viewer, etc. You can do it rather quickly without paying any “teleport fee”.

The fee for teleportation is so low, it certainly is no pro argument for purchasing the VIP ticket. Porting only once and paying 2 silver gives me more value than porting twice without additional costs.

Is it a laziness competition? I hate the world map and I avoid it as long as I can. I use teleport stones, scrolls, portals, glide, anything to avoid bringing up the map and use those magic pebbles. It’s not immersive to me at all. So, it was a nobrainer for me to buy the pass.
We shouldn’t compare playstyles I think. It’s an endless argument.

For some people it’s worth it.

I normally have about 20-30g on my account, and I know I can just use a waypoint and then gather 1-2 nodes and get back the full cost even if I teleported all the way across the world.

And yet I still prefer to use asura gates to get as near as I can and then run/waypoint part way and then run. The only exception is if time is a factor – like if I’ve just noticed the Dragon’s Stand meta is starting – then I’ll waypoint.

So for me having an area I can teleport to for free all the way down in the Crystal Desert is a big bonus. Sure I may not use it all the time, but if I want to go to the bank or something and then on to the desert it’s a good choice.

Well, maybe actually learning how waypoints are spread over the new areas will help making the decision to buy or not to buy. I think there will be few waypoints to “encourage” us to use mounts. The last new zones have few waypoints, I’m sure new zones will be treated similarly.

I do not know the other passes but with the “captains airship pass” you teleport to the airship in the normal “Gendarran Fields” open-world map where the airship flies high above the ground. So you are in the “normal” open-world map (and not in an instance like guild hall, lobby etc..) and can glide from the aiship to other places in the map, but you can not go right back where you were before, when you leave the ship.

It’s the same for the other passes. They’re all locations in the open-world map and none of them are instanced. And none of them allow you to go straight back to where you were.

The one exception is the new one – the Mistlock Sanctuary – which is in it’s own unique map. Which is a bit of a problem for some people because it means the only way to leave it is to go through the gate to one of the cities.

Because of that Anet are apparently looking at the option to allow you to return to where you entered from, but we don’t have an ETA on that or even confirmation it will be happening, they may decide to do something different to ‘fix’ Mistlock.

People have been asking for option to return to same location multiple times. But clearly this is not extremely important, because players buy those passes like crazy; there are always many people in those area, meaning those passes sell well.

To design such option of returning to same location, then that would mean all zones would have to be instance zones, and the work with design for every such zone would not worth it.

Regarding “Lily of the Elon” pass, I strongly don’t think it will ever be available for 1000 gems, but it will be included with every deluxe upgrade bought with gems. So this item will be available to all players upgrading to deluxe at a later time.
