Lily of the Elon preview
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I’m not sure how I feel about it. It seems… functional but the way it was advertised made it seem like more than I’m seeing here. I really hope A.net adds to it or at least makes it less cramped before release. I’m already seeing people upset at what they’re seeing and feeling like this is an afterthought compared to the previous exclusive areas they’ve put out.
I hope the Devs don’t make it less ‘cramped’, as having NPCs, etc. close together is what makes it convenient.
Thanks, Danikat, for the preview.

I’m thinking of times when players enter. It would be perfect for a private instance but it’s not.
Each to their own.
Sometimes, the Royal Terrace has more players, sometimes, less. The amount of players, though, does not make any of the features less convenient. It’s not like one must physically push their way through a crowd to access an NPC or crafting station, etc.

That’s true, I guess personally from the description of the pass on the store page, I expected more. I do hope A.net gives it another look and makes it feel a bit more “worth it” in a sense (which is entirely subjective I understand) but I won’t be upset if they don’t.
I just think the fact that they are using it as a bonus and a lure to sell the actual game that it would be at least on par with most of the exclusive areas they created so far. From what I can see in the demo, it is not. Again, opinions.
Edit: One more thing, giving benefit of the doubt and all, we don’t know if the thing is even done yet so there’s always that.
I’d prefer that they not make it less cramped, in the sense of moving NPCs. imo, all the NPC’s close together is the big advantage of these passes. I get the pass for the efficient placements of NPC and space as well as the port to an area, not atmospherics as such.
ANet may give it to you.
Looks better than the Royal Pass. It has more features. I’m looking forward to it; not only to the features, but the location. Although it isn’t much Silver, it will save on costs to travel to and from Elona. I will appreciate not having to travel to Kryta (or heaven forbid, LA) to visit the Mystic Forge. (I know one can travel to WvW, but things are really spread out there, and sometimes there’s no Waypoint directly to the Forge.)
I think it looks cool I have a question, I never have bought one of these pass’s from the gem store was always tempted though….Can this pass be put into the shared inventory slot, so all your chars can click and use? Or is it just 1 soul bound pass for 1 char?
If yes then ill buy some more Shared slots
It does go into shared inventory slots. That’s where I put mine.
All characters can use the Pass if placed in a Shared Inventory Slot. I love my Royal Terrace Pass. =)
Also I forgot in my earlier posts but thank you for the images.
I’m happy with it. I like that the NPCs aren’t too spread out and that it’s a fairly open space inside, which means even if it is busy it should be easy to move around.
My one concern at the moment is that I like to keep the camera zoomed out above and behind my character and I’m not sure that will be possible with the ceiling so low. But it’s hard to tell from outside, sometimes it’s fine in buildings, sometimes it’s not.
But if I want a change I can always go into Amnoon and use the bank, TP etc. there instead.

Return of The Jedi ships Moebuis designs are timeless.
Now if only they made these places “return to the map you ported in from” with a UI exit button/panel, like the sPvP lobby.

They Devs stated, just very recently, they can not, due to technical reasons.

Do you have the source for that? I’d like to save it.

At this point, no. It is actually not possible to do this in lounges that are in open world maps because of how we export character position on map transition.
(It’s always great to keep up with the Dev Tracker.) =)

Thanks for the link.

There IS hope for this … as they just did this for the new Mistlock Sanctuary. You go to the portal that has all the Tyria city ports, and one option is to return to the location where you scrolled into the Mistlock Sanctuary. Perhaps they will do this for the other exclusive lounges as well in the near future.

They can’t do it for the other maps for the technical reasons they gave in the post Inculpatus cedo linked:

The difference is that Mistlock Sanctuary is an instance wheras the other Lounges are part of a map. It’s a pity as not having the option to return to where you came from is a huge disadvantage for the other Lounges.
I am wondering how crowded it will be. With previous places it was people that specifically bought the pass from the store. This will have a larger chunk of the playerbase having access.

Since it’s not a separate instance but part of the map it can only have those who are in that map shard. It won’t have everyone going to the same one unless there’s only one version going with insufficient numbers of people to start a second map.

From my experience, the VIP areas aren’t particularly more crowded than anywhere else in the game. At peak periods, there are as many people in Royal Terrace as Rata Sum (at Accountancy Waypoint area) as in the Mistlock Sanctuary, give or take a few.

I couldn’t agree more, my thoughts exactly when I passed by that… flat wooden construct (a houseboat?) the other day. Very disappointing considering the price for the “Deluxe” content.

This. I was worried even before I saw it that it would have the same camera issues as the Captain’s Pass airship does. My hope was that it would be an open-topped barge or at least have open areas along with roofed sections for respite from the desert sun.
And yeah, per other posters, it does look unimpressive from outside as seen in the preview weekend. I wish I could have previewed the interior. I have chosen not to get the Mists pass even though I looove the idea of the low gravity there, given the imminent availability of the Lily, but if the Lily makes me queasy due to forced camera zoom I’d have spent the 1000 gems on the Mists one before it poofs tomorrow. I’m not spending them on spec, though.
I like the style a lot better than the Captain’s Airship (which I only bought because it was the only one available) but I worry about two things: First, it’s cramped looking, and not in terms of NPC/Utility spacing, but rather the ceilings are super low and there seems to be a lot of clutter. Second, if you have everyone that preordered using it and crowding together in either of those two narrow rooms with a low ceilings, there’ll be little point to the style of things – and probably a good deal of frustration.
I didn’t expect this, but I didn’t expect something greater than what the other passes offer either. I’m just a bit disappointed. The appeal of passes is that you get everything in a small localized area, yeah? So with that philosophy in mind, you’d think they’d give some height to the ceilings (if ceilings are necessary) and add some decent lighting so it doesn’t feel so cramped.
It’s not too late for them to remove the boat and make it in the mists instead, with a return to map feature and a portal to the new map.

I am terribly bummed about this I play almost entirely norns only and I can already tell I’m gonna have massive clipping and camera issues in this tight place on top of that a lot of other players have made good points on the massive differences in Mistlock compared to "A handwritten invitation to “Elona’s most luxurious retreat,” the Lily of the Elon." The author of this thread was right to call them barges because that’s exactly what comes to mind when you look at them… If they want PoF to be successful they need to put more effort into making sure everyone norn included will be able to appreciate this “Luxurious Retreat” because from the demo I and many other players have absolutely 0 interest in this cramped “retreat” I REALLY hope they do something about it :/
I think it looks decent enough. A bit cramped as others have said. I’d have preferred it to be further away from shore to give it more of a boat feel, and an open top would be awesome. It’s not something I would specifically buy deluxe for.
I did expect that it would have more but I feared that it would have a lot more. When it said Casino a part of me thought they might introduce a new mini-game only accessible through the Lily. And while a new mini-game sounds fun, I would hope it would be accessible to everyone and not hidden away in a private area.
Extremely sad i cannot pick between this and a mount skin ;_;
This is a lot less interesting than I expected.
I thought we’d get a really nice place with a beautiful view over the landscape and nice decorations etc. This look cramped, ugly, and simply annoying to be in. Not at all the luxurious area I expected.. I really hope they change it and improve it a lot
