Because of a partial disability, I have a limited ability to move and fight at the same time. I can do one or the other, just not both so great together. Is there a class that’s suited for me? I play PvE only, for the most part. I don’t really plan to do dungeons, just open world PvE content.

Thanks for any advice!

Several professions have AI build concepts which may suit your needs. Phantasm Mesmer I feel would be good for you. Decoy will bide you a moment to reposition yourself so you can fight again.

Bear bow Ranger is another concept that could work for you. The bear is tank y and you have a stealth to reposition if necessary via longbow

hey I think i can help a littel, 2 years back when i startet playing GW2, I was paralyzed in the hole left side of my body. my salution to this was to by a http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-mice/razer-naga by doing this i could keybind WASD to the mouse and that way both fight by clicking the skillbar with my mouse, and move by using the keys on the side of the mouse.

I hope this helps and could remove some of the limits you may expirience.

I as well have a mobility/dexterity issue due to a dissability and have found the easiest/best class for me but hated by most is the Ranger in almost any RPG for those with a mobility/dexterity issues.

EDIT:And as jonatanen.1568 mentioned a gaming mouse also helps.

I don’t really post on forums like this very much, but I just have to chime in here. I do not have a disability, but my brother does. I really appreciate threads like this, where players help each other, without trolling. I’ve played a lot of MMOs during that past decade, and I think that the GW2 community has been one of the best.

Just a heads up there will be encounters that will give you quite a bit of trouble. Ones that pretty much require attacking and moving at the same time. For your sake I hope you are able to come up with a clever way to accomplish this otherwise you will find yourself at the wrong end of some AoEs.

I bet there are others that may be able to suggest alternatives or recommend some strategies for the mobility impaired.

Something else to consider – You may want to visit Malchor’s Leap, do the “Defeat the Inquest Ornithologist” event and buy several stacks of the Experimental Rifle. It will give you access to jump shot (and isnt tied to a particular class), which will allow you to make some jumps you probably couldn’t otherwise.

You may need to grab one or more others to help complete the event (it takes a few), but if you advertise in map chat, it shouldnt be a problem.

The portal gun is another consumable to consider, but i forget where that is acquired.

This is a good suggestion, except instead of the Razer Naga, I would strongly recommend the Logitech G600. Having used both, I can confidently say the Logitech is incomparable, and less expensive, to boot.

For open world a warrior or guardian also works great .. go mostly for Knights items
and build your warrior for regeneration.

Heck .. even with my elementalist i mostly have to facetank all mobs since i play with
scepter and have to fix them for my dragons tooth.

Bearbow rainger is good, all Knights or PVT gear. Dump your traits in vitality and toughness lines. You’ll hit like a feather, but you’ll never die. Engie built for survivability with a rifle is also great, and they have a lot of skills that allow you to reposition yourself if you need to. The rifle jump, acid bomb, some elixers, and rocket boots. I use them all the time, my main is engie. I have nerve damage in my left hand and am blind on that side as well, and it works great for me.

I use a razer naga 17 button MMO mouse for all of my skills, also. I bought it specifically to make playing engie easier, but it makes most classes a breeze. Still struggling a little with scepter/dagger ele, though, haha.

In his case I would say longbow to start but keep a melee set for when the mobs close in. Maybe sword and torch or warhorn. The sword is a strong weapon. People complain about if because it roots you but if he isn’t going to dodge a lot, then it’s not a consideration. It has a follow up leap to the mob on auto so it will by itself continuously keep him on top of the mob. He doesn’t have to try to move to follow, the sword will do it for him.

The sword has a leap away and leap back. He can use the leap away to get away from a mob if he is loosing health, switch to longbow, push the foe away with the longbow skill and continue using that. The warhorn has the buffs as well as the bird skill on 4 which is pretty strong. The torch has nice condition damage as well as a fire aura if a pet or he leaps through it.

Especially in the new LS2 instances there are some difficult fights where you have
to move a lot and those fights are also overly long.

Good thing is .. you don’t really have to do them .. there is nothing special you
get from it. In the end you can even level to 80 without ever going into level 80 areas.

Thats really the nice thing in GW2 .. you can pick whatever content you like and
leave everything you don’t like aside.

hey bud, i could add a few cents here i hope.

2 classes come to mind that could help movement with just a razor naga gaming mouse.

holding both left click and right will move you forward, which i think you know this.

Warrior, Greatsword 3 will spin you into or away from mobs while evading and doing damage. Greatsword 5 will rush into your target, idk if itll help you to keep ’Autotargetting" on, but if you want to rush around the world with that skill itll always target something in range. Also Warrior 1 hand sword 2 will leap into and out of combat, again to use this skill as an avoidance skill i suggest not using Autotargeting. Sword off hand 5 is a ~2 second block if not in melee range, and shield is a 3 second block where ever you are.

Mesmer, staff #2 will phase you away from your target for a like dodge, and the utility Blink will port you anywhere you choose within 900 range or 1200 if traited. Plus you can hide behind clones/phantasms to block incoming damage.

Out of the 2 i would go with warrior because they have like the highest hp pool and huge heal over time abilities.

I hope this helps, and anyother questions send me a messege.

Good Day!

Yes, some of the Personal Story / Living World-Fights can be a little on the harder side. But you can always ask for support in mapchat / find a guild / add nice people to your friendslist. I recommend a Staff Guardian because they are always useful due to their strong support builds so you don’t need to worry about being a “good player” or not, most of the time you can just spam alies with boons, And the staff attack hits everything in an arc in front of you so you don’t have to select any enemy players or do anything besides just bind the #1 skill to a button near your WASD.

A lot of good suggestions here. I’ll add in staff necromancer. Use some minions to help draw mob attention and 4 of your 5 weapon skills are ground target aoe, easily cast by using the hybrid cast where you see the green circle and it casts the moment you release the button. I think I do the least movement and dodging on my necros (though the only minion I generally bother with is the heal one). I have a Naga HEX so my mouse is only for moving and my left hand taps the hotkeys needed to cast; if you’re able to tap just one key at a time while mouse moving, that should be sufficient. I myself don’t use combo keys in combat, I have small hands and poor reflexes.

All of the content like that should only be a problem for you solo. If you have a partner or two it will be vastly easier. Heck, even people without limitations need partners to do some of those fights (at the moment I’m referring to the new Living Story fights—have to be level 80 for those anyway). If you’ve got someone else that can handle the DPSing while you dodge/avoid AoEs you should have no problem. It’s when you try to do it alone that you could have some issues.

So basically, find a solid friend that will help with some of the content that requires more mobility and you should be good to go.

If you don’t already have a group like that, my guild is extremely supportive of players that have trouble with content. We regularly run new players through hard dungeons and do all of the heavy lifting so they can get used to it and I know that any of us would jump to help if you were having trouble completing content due to mobility limitations. Heck even just me personally if nobody else wanted to. We’re on Fort Aspenwood, feel free to message me if you need any help.

Hmmm. As a ranger, or any class really, do you need to constantly move/strafe to avoid damage in PvE? I was fighting some kind of mini-boss in the low level Sylvari area, and he charged me and almost one-shotted me. My pet (the starter fern hound) didn’t do anything to take aggro.

Limited Mobility

Well, movement definitely helps to avoid damage. Healing spring is really good for a stationary ranger. I’m not sure what healing skill rangers start off with but get that one when you can.

The pets can hold agro, but not always. What you can try is send the pet in first and letting it engage the mob before you attack it. At your low level anything above a regular mob is dangerous. You might want to await to tackle a boss till you are with someone or have leveled some.

I remember venturing out with a couple of others into a neighboring zone when we were low level. We decided to attack a yellow mob (a ram) and lost that fight. Lol. So levels definitely matter.

I will say this and please understand I am not being mean, but if you really struggle with being able to move around during combat you may be in for a rather disappointing experience. It’s true that there are classes and armor weapon set combinations that can minimize the amount of movement needed, but certain open world events even being the “tankiest” you can be still won’t be enough to keep you from eating dirt. Movement during combat is a central tenet to this game, as well as actively mitigating damage through blinds, blocks, dodges etc etc. There is still plenty you can experience in open world pve, but there are things you simply won’t be able to accomplish without being able to move around. I certainly am not trying to discourage you from playing just be prepared to spend a lot of time running back from the waypoints until you get it all worked out for you. Good luck and happy hunting!!!

Obviously you have already purchased the game, so you may as well try some of the suggestions listed in this thread first before deciding. You may discover that you are able to do everything that you want to do without needing to move around. You can of course as someone mentioned get to level 80 without ever leaving the starter zone if you so wished, it’s mostly once you get to the level 80 zones that it may be an issue.

You might just need to take it slowly. Stay in the low level zones till you feel confident enough to move higher. There are 5 starter zones, you can do them first and map the cities. By the time you do those you will most likely be about level 50 to 60. Doing the next set of zones can finish your leveling.

In fact, map all the cities first. You can get good levels doing that.

You don’t have much choice on the stats on your gear while leveling but once you get to 80 you can get gear and traits that emphasizes survivability.

I don’t exactly know what disability you have so I can’t say for sure this is going to be something you could try. I think you could play almost any class if you can afford the appropriate gaming gear for it. Gaming mice like the Naga can just be where you put the macros on and just prioritize your left hand on character movement and switching of weapons and stuff.

You said you were almost one-shot by a low level boss. Well, join the club. ^^
That happens to everyone. If it hasn’t, it’s because they avoided those bosses. Most of them, especially at that level are group content or at least 2 or 3 people. It’s very difficult for one person to take on those bosses at that level. You simply aren’t set up for it.

You already said you weren’t planning to do dungeons, just open world content. For that, most of it can be handled with experience, sufficient levels and gear and traits set up towards your needs. If open world PvE is your goal I don’t see any reason why you shouldn’t be able to play to your satisfaction.

You won’t be able to get good gear that you need or trait properly until very late in the leveling process. However once you do get high enough you can get the gear and traits that fit your particular play style. At that point your survivability will go up tremendously.

Most of the big meta events are with huge groups of people. Many don’t require much movement. They do require some, but not constant. With some trial and the right gear, you should be fine.

Give it a shot. If you enjoy it stick with it. There is no amount of theorycrafting here on the forums that will really tell you if it will work for you. Even so I think it has the potential to be just fine for you.
