Linen Scrap Farming
Karma works. I don’t care to tell you the details, but you can throw 4 items into the forge, and break down the item you get back. Search on karma to gold or karma to linen and you will find plenty of details.
Yeah I know about that one. Just don’t know if it’s worth the karma spend.
If you have a lot of karma to burn, you can buy https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cloth_Crab_Grabbin%27_Gloves from that karma merchant, forge them, and then salvage the result for linen. It’s worth it if you don’t need karma for anything else and don’t mind spending a lot of time forging and salvaging.
If you don’t have a ton of karma, you can just kill anything that drops bags that can contain linen (level 45-60ish mobs). http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Linen_Scrap
You could also buy cloth armor from the same level, I suppose.
There is nothing worth spending karma on. Before you could buy obsidian shards for crafting, but with sw drop rates there is no need. The only thing I have spent karma on was weapon/armor skins and collection crap if your into that.
Karma is the cheapest/fastest, but if you really want to go for drops, the sepatatist cave across the bridge from bloodfin lake waypoint has lots of separatists that drop bags frequently that contain linen and cotton. They also respawn fairly quickly, and there’s an event that pops up that spawns lots more separatists in groups. It’s decent for drop rates, but gets boring fast.
Good luck.
Honestly, the easiest way is to farm Silverwastes, hold the all the champ bags, then open them on a character thats at least level 45 (essentially dedicated to that task). The champ bags will yield level appropriate gear and mats, and you can then salvage them.
For optimal money generation, try to weigh the TP value of mats from other drops vs their NPC sell value to determine what to sell, what to salvage, and what you can TP for extra money. Since Wood and Metal are easy to obtain, they won’t sell for as much. But Plat prices seem to be abnormally high for reasons I can’t fully grasp.
In addition to the Separatist Caves in Iron Marches, killing Flame Legion anywhere in the zone will also give Ritual Bags that can have Linen. In addition to that, the Flame Legion can also directly drop salvage items that will turn into Linen, making them a bit more attractive to kill than the Separatists that lack such salvage items.
You can range all the way from the southwest corner of the zone all the way to the far north fighting different groups of Flame Legion to avoid DR, and maybe even kill the Fire Shaman world boss while you’re there just because you can.
The most efficient way to farm linen is to play the game and buy it off the TP. That maximizes your fun/hour and allows you to get as much linen as you like. Second best is farming gold and buying the linen off the TP.
The karma:gold method using crab-grabbin gloves yields 10-12 silver per thousand karma. As one would expect (given that ANet doesn’t want us to easily convert), that’s not very efficient. In fact, it’s about the same value you’d get by using karma to acquire Oric Tools or Basic Salvage Kits (11.43 silver/1,000 karma).
Worse, it’s horribly tedious: fill up inventory, race to a forge, forge-forge-forge, run back to karma vendor. You can save time if you own a conduit, only those cost 140g initial investment.
tl;dr do whatever you like and buy the linen directly instead.
Level a class you enjoy pvping with to 50. Halt all leveling. Start playing matches. All loot will be level 50 from reward tracks. Salvage that loot.
To get even more, do Silverwastes on an 80. Keep all the bags, put them into a bank, give to the 50. Salvage the kitten ton of 50 gear
Instant linen.

Depends if you have any other use for karma. If you don’t want a legendary you might as well convert it to other stuff. Collecting millions of karma and not spending it doesn’t help you.
