Q:
Linen Scraps Farming
Why would you get banned for farming mats? What is it that you’re doing that would be considered an offense?

You’re repeating the same events over and over. Not really an exploit.
I heard you can get banned, but as ArenaNet haven’t said anything about it, i might just ask. To be safe.
Someone told you wrong. Repeating the same event over and over wouldn’t be anything to get banned over. Worst case scenario is that Anet will change the spawn times of the event so that people can’t farm it as frequently. Best thing for you to do is keep quiet about it and make your gold.
If you’re farming by keeping an event not ending due design flaw, thats an EXPLOIT.
One of us have been banned because she tried to make focus slayer achievement on swamp frogs… (some tought shes a bot)
But you ALL really should stop farming. This only leads AN to make more expensive sinks that normal players can not reach within logical timeframe.

But you REALLY should not tell me how to play this game I paid to play. This only leads to making the game terrible as a whole when parentalism comes into play… which is what it is when you tell me how I should be doing something with no authority to do so.
If you are talking about the WP in fireheart rise, yes you can get banned. A user two weeks ago here posted that he and his friend got permanently banned for farming it.
They made an inquiry and they were both unbanned. The message they received was:
““Thank you for your patience while we completed a review of the administrative action taken on your account.
While our investigation points to the fact that your account was involved in a violation, we are going to extend leniency to you on a one-time basis. We have reinstated your account and you may rejoin the game now.
In the future, please take care to observe the Rules of Conduct, the User Agreement, and the Naming Policies, all of which can be found on our legal pages here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/
Also, please keep in mind that future violations may result in increased penalties or irreversible account termination, as explained in the Conducts Breaches and Outcomes document, also found on the legal pages linked above.""
So you can certainly risk it.
edit: I totally forgot that this waypoint was fixed in the previous patch, so this may not be relevant to what you are doing.
Don’t bot and ur good to go.

So basically, they got banned for not resurrecting the NPC’s. I’ve ignored countless dead NPC’s, and I’m still here, so what it REALLY sounds like: MORE player micromanagement by Anet.I mean, why the heck would I go out and EARN a living… when I could be giving Anet/Ncsoft REAL money for gems, exchange it for gold, and let them nickel & dime it away. What a great plan!
The event terminates after something like 20 minutes or so. If you don’t want people to farm events, here are two plausible solutions:
A. Make it so crafting materials have a tolerable drop rate in open world play.3 scraps
of cloth is intolerable after an hour of running around .
B. Don’t have the events.

Can you get banned for this farm? you can make 10g per hour. I heard by someone that people have gotten banned. I’d like an answer from ArenaNet though, to clear things out.
regardless, it’s now killed because it’s on the forums now. either everyone or no one is going to farm that.

The funny thing, ANet makes this game grindy as hell to craft anything of value.
Than people grind and grind and grind and get banned.
The Leveling & Open World Compendium
This has been confused. At one point, the mortar event (I think it was) spawned nearly constant critters at a much higher-than-normal rate due to a bug. It was during THAT period of the bug’s existence people got banned.
Not gonna go down the argument of how they were supposed to know the code wasn’t performing as intended, given no ability to review it – that’s a topic for the next time it happens.
Anet unbugged the event, so NOW it isn’t exploiting some obvious mistake we were supposed to miraculously divine was at play.

Please tell me how to farm my t6-mats for my legendary
Anet making more expensive sinks is not my fault (or problem) but anets fault for not making an “normal-friendly environment”.
@OP
If you are not manipulating the events (or other things like spawns/safespots), continue farming. You’re doing nothing wrong here.
People got banned because they were botting and having the entire farming process automated.

If this were true then the champ trains would have been banned long ago.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
Guys, these people were not repeating the event, over and over.
When the NPC’s at some events are dead, it causes infinite spawn of enemies. These people were just farming infinite spawn of enemies from the “badly designed” event.
According to arenanet, farming such events is considered exploiting, because you’re exploiting a flaw in the event’s design.
Hint: There are other events that act like this. Just make sure to complete the event and you’re in the clear.

Play in lvl80 maps for the Heavy bags and open them. I get some from WvW.
However, not stacks of it… Meanwhile Legendary stuff needs way high costs.
I don’t have any, because I don’t like them. There are no lore behind them, so they’re hard to call legendary. +I don’t need the stat-swap on them, somehow an LB with more toughness gives the same damages as 9%crit one… and full upgraded asc weapons of mine seems to do slightly less damage compared to exotic…
Keep in mind, Legendaries are designed to work on for a ~year, not to grindfarm it within one or two. It is the Player’s “stupidity” to try getting everything NOW and then complain about the lack of content or the Grind Wars 2.

Maybe you should use a different word than ‘farming’ It’s not really a ‘farming’ game like the original was. Hence there are no ‘farming builds’ section on these forums, unlike gw1guru which had a plethora of them.
We have no “farm builds” here because game designed to be solo-able, not like back in GW1. This is the only difference, people still doing the same.

Thanks for that, I needed a laugh this morning.
You know, if they had stuck to their manifesto, the one that sold the game to so many of us, folk wouldn’t need to find creative ways to gather the massive amounts of mats needed for crafting and folk wouldn’t find themselves “exploiting” things without knowing it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E&feature=youtu.be
Just saying….
Or you could just do what I do, ignore the quagan cuddling pve mess and stick to wvw and be happy. At least you cant get banned for farming other players:D

Farming is an action, not a build. People absolutely do farm in this game.
Some people would say pulling creeps was a design flaw in Dota 2 to stack neutrals however this is an integral part of the game. If some kid playing an easy-mode MMO see’s a guy mass farming linen on youtube based on a design flaw (which may have been interpreted as intentional) then wtf? He gets banned, or thrown a warning and perma-banned for “exploiting” another design flaw…..I don’t know…this game…I want to like it, I really want to like it. People have been farming forever in MMO’s and using “exploits” to reach their goals. I agree this is not a legitimate method of farming, however the opportunity was there. Forget the licencing agreement, perhaps 1% of the players even read it and understood specifically what it meant. I am not a coder, so I cannot understand anything that goes into the development of games, therefore I cannot bash Anet. Perhaps some of these farmer’s were completely ignorant of their crime, perhaps not. At least OP had taken the time to ask. GW2 is just not my game I think.
This thread is 5 months old and about an exploit where people took advantage of an event with almost infinitely spawning mobs to farm linen. ANet will stop farming where people are standing in one spot killing infinitely respawning mobs. This type of farming can flood the economy with certain mats and crash the prices.
Iirc most of the people who were banned were later reinstated after a 3 day suspension.
