Lion/Dragon mask, dyes, balloon in gemstore
Masks are awful, IMO. Never much cared for that style. But I’m sure some will enjoy them.
Balloon is far inferior to the lantern they already added for the festival and looks rather out of place in general, so I’m kind of scratching my head on that one even existing.
Dyes… eh. Nothing really catches my eye except for maybe Golden Lion, but I’ll have to check it out in-game on my gear to see for sure. Mind you, even if I am interested in it I probably won’t get it until weeks / months down the line, assuming they eventually end up in the chests as normal drops like the other “exclusive” dyes.

Will check the new red dyes later tonight, been trying to find a red dye that looks vibrant red as one of the current ones i use looks a little ‘grubby’ and not like on the preview.
Thank you
Dyes i have to have just to still be able to say i have every dye in game.
What a waste that these festive GW1 hats aren’t free town clothes.
As always, the new dyes are a lot cheaper to buy with gold (converting gems to gold if you must) than by opening the RNG boxes.
If you can wait, The hats and balloon are bound to go on sale later and the dyes will find their way into regular BL chests which will drop their value to 10gold per.
lol Not going to lie, I want one of those mask if only for the sheer kitten factor XD
And gold is big colour for my main :/ so may have to go for the gold dye,
And that balloon is too cute.
Edit: seriously? D with erp at the end is censored? Lol

You did have to semi-participate in the festival events in Shing Jea for some of them as I recall….not actually FREE (but yes, they did not cost any in-game or RL currency).
Also, if you wanted them for multiple characters, you had to do some serious token collecting (tho, you could AFK some of the games to do this). The GW2 method allows you to use it on all characters once obtained (for trans charges, yes).

I’m fairly certain there was an NPC that could replicate any hat or outfit for a symbolic fee once you’ve unlocked it.
The dragon mask actually looks really good, even on charr for some reason, sure takes the horns away but this time i can shrug it off. Usually not my personal taste.. but im pretty sure this is going to be a perfect helmet for my D\D ele…fire breath ftw. Now i just need a set of shoulders that look dragon themed and maybe some heavy looking armor bottoms but im sure thats manageable. Also the dyes are extremely vibrant… im not 100% sure ill buy em, ill see how my dye combinations look with my armor but that mask is mine when i come home from work.
Roller coaster of emotion on the Dragon Mask. This was my favorite headgear of GW. Enormous hype was my gut reaction on seeing it come back, concern after I saw how the dye channels were set up, anticipation leading up to buying it, massive buyer’s remorse and disgust after I got it and failed to make it look good with anything, and just sorta “meh” now after finding something it could be used with.
Attaching the irides to the same dye channel as most of the hair on the back of the head was a really poor decision and almost ruins this mask for me. A dark iris obscures the pupils and looks terrible in general, making the mask unworkable for dark colors on the first channel. They should have tied it to the second or third channels, or just fixed it as white like the original.

GW had a solution for that too, and the associated cost there was far more inconsequential than trans charges.

How else is ANet going to make money if they don’t nickel and dime the people who are nostalgic for the prequel?

I’m not refering to GW1, but last year GW2’s dragon festival event rewards those masks for free. This year there’s 0 content in it, and they also charge for the mask :/.

It depends on your definition of participating. I just AFK’d on the map overnight and woke up with 3 of them in my inventory. I just checked the finale and you got the masks regardless as to how successful your district was with the dishes.

My guild regularly sponsored districts by making it a guild activity to go and collect all that was needed. You’re welcome.
Masks for festivals should remain festival rewards and not an armor piece that is sub-level 80 that I have to use a transmutation stone on and can’t even salvage ectos(like the gold ram backpiece) from because it’s too low a level. You guys took items that were rewards in one game and made them cash shop fair.
It’s really disheartening to not at least get these as rewards in game for completing content that you designed around it.
In GW1 free, now 3,75€ each

I really love the dragon mask. I think a lot of GW2 skins could use some more … je ne sais quoi!

Wait, what content? Oh Dragon Ball Arena…already forgotten. People always complain about Anet creating events simply to push cash shop items…and this is the first time I agree with those people.

The extra rewards were largely due to how well your district did with the dishes. Luckily many districts were sponsored by guilds/alliances. However, receiving the mask was gauranteed by simply being on the map and was not dependent on the success of the dishes. One could be completely alone in a district, be AFK, and still get the mask.
I will agree though that I do miss those masks and such that we got for various events.
My future Necromancer. If anet finally comes to their senses.
That actually is an interesting tribal look. It reminds me of photos I’ve seen of men dressed for traditional dances. They often wore animal helmets when they were representing spirits or natural forces.

There was no Dragon Festival last year. Dragon Bash was 2013
But yes, having to pay for these masks is awful. A Meta-Achievement to get them would have been much better.
These ugly masks require gem 300? For real?

If they are so ugly why do you care that they are 300 gems you obviously wont be getting them.
Even if something costs gems that in no way means you have to use real money to obtain them, there is this thing called gold you can convert. Yes it was free in GW1 but if you don’t want to spend real money get farming.

I totally agree with your sentiment, but any criticism about the amount of content put out for this event is just going to be brushed off with the “we’re making an expansion” excuse from ANet. It’s not the first time they’ve played that card to get out of doing a decent job in between projects.

And thats whats gw2 should do, the masks were all free all you had to do was some specific event quests for the tokens which allowed everyone to get it. As long you unlocked on any character you can take it to the clothing guy who saves the design for you and then any character you have can use it
I have to say it really rubs me the wrong way that the exact same mask that was a free event reward in GW1 is purchased with gems here. That’s the major issue I have with the gem store – it monetizes things that could (should?) be event rewards. Most of the armor/weapon skins, mini pets, instruments, etc. I have no problem with and think they’re great there, but I feel like there’s potential for better “special event” or prestige rewards that’s missed out on sometimes due to the gem store – the lion mask being one of them.

at least it’s account wide. So more than one character can wear it when you buy one.

These masks were not part of the original dragon bash in GW2, or any other festival I’ve ever seen. I’ve never seen anyone with these masks in GW2.
I love them both, btw. And they’re really detailed.

Dragon mask looks great and better texture and dye options than what was in guild wars 1.
Going to get this mask with the gems in got from AP. I rocked it too long in GW1 not to get it. All I need now is obsidian armor to complete the look of my old warrior.

I like both of the mask but they’re too pricey for something I’d only want to wear randomly cuz my face is too pretty. I also really like the Golden Lion dye but RNG boxes frighten me.
I’m fairly certain there was an NPC that could replicate any hat or outfit for a symbolic fee once you’ve unlocked it.
For the record, the festival hat guy wasn’t introduced until relatively late in GW1, and definitely didn’t exist when the dragon masks were originally handed out.

True… The original Dragon Mask was handed out in July 2006, while the Hat guy was introduced during Wintersday 2006. Relatively late.

Gold Lion dye is already sold on the trade post normally for around 90 gold. Redemption, a 1 gold dye, looks pretty identical though.

I would bet that they are limited since they look like the Guild Wars 1 Holliday masks and they came out during the Guild Wars 2 Lunar Festival,
