The Quandary: So here we are ~9 months since the smoldering ashes of LA have cooled and still the city lies trapped in a single moment in time.

Consideration: There have been workers hammering away at the various bridges throughout the city and still they have been unable to throw some boards over the dangerous holes just waiting to swallow some unsuspecting traveler. At least put up some Caution Tape at the damaged areas.

Questions: Are there some issues with building contract negotiations that are precluding the work start-up? Have not enough Council palms been greased? Where are the good-hearted people collecting donations of cash and materials to contribute to the rebuilding effort? Where are the dedicated engineers and crafters looking to make a name for themselves with statements like “See that bridge over there…I built that”?

I am not saying that the repairs in LA should happen overnight but what I am saying is LA looks to be in the exact same state of disarray as it was 9 months ago.

Come on people, pick up a hammer and some nails and let’s get cracking.

It would be nice if small changes could be made here and there that show progress in the rebuilding, even if they are just temporary.

I suppose the main issue there is that users would basically be re-downloading the entire L.A. map with each patch where they made a change.

As long as you insert 2-3 tea breaks and a couple trips to the pub for beer and darts between all that bishing and boshing, you can count me in!

As far as the “trapped in a single moment in time”, the whole world is pretty much trapped in a moment of time, or at least in a time loop. As much as everyone would love to see LA rebuilt, until the Living Story moves time along, LA isn’t going anywhere. We saw the same thing with the Queens Pavillion, before it became the Pavillion. Before it was a giant hole, and construction site, then the patch came, and overnight it was transformed.

So unless you are doing the PS, or the LS, the game is trapped in (almost) the same exact time frame as when the game first launched. Thats why we don’t see Orr being cleansed, can fight the same world bosses repeatedly, do the same dungeon paths, etc.

I completely agree. I hate going to LA because of all the disarray. Its too difficult to get around. I mean I understand putting rocks and boards in the paths in WvW because ppl are trying to do things quickly so that’s a strategic obstacle. But in LA all the rubble is just for show – can’t we have rocks, boards, and holes that are only cosmetic so we can just get to the places we’re trying to go? (Now that there are no actual events in LA anymore.)

And yes, all these workers should have accomplished something over all these months. I think it would have been great if the areas with workers had progress over time and eventually were even completed. And some of the workers could have conversations about how they completed them.

As it is, LA is just somewhere to avoid unless you need the MF or WvW gates.

it’s this luck based mystic toilet that we’re all so sick of flushing our money down. -Salamol

Neural: Agreed but as for reloading the LA map. There have been 15 major patches in between LA’s destruction and now. If you count the minor patches that makes for ~60 new builds since the cities demise. A few changes could have been slipped in there somewhere, wouldn’t you think?

How about if they just let a few handfulls of Skritt loose in LA. Them shinies would be picked up in no time.

I was mapping Lion’s Arch yesterday with an alt and noticed that much of the miasma has lifted and the sun was actually shining! Also, the seagulls are back and I’m pretty sure that’s a new rope bridge near Postern waypoint. And that ship in Sanctum Harbor? That’s new if I remember correctly.

Yes, there are some changes, and some new stuff, there’s a couple of new bridges, and the ship.

I’d love to have some activities where we could contribute to the works though. Maybe the devs are stalling for a bit because they’ve got something like that planned, that’s a happy thought

Obviously it would have to wait until after the Mordy-bash though

I have a feeling that it’s a pretty common problem in MMO’s, actually.

Best example I can think of off the top of my head…
Anyone that played City of Heroes (Rest in peace… such a good game… ) could tell you about the construction projects that NPC’s worked on since seemingly forever.
Any CoH veterans remember the Faultline zone? Did those NPC construction workers /ever/ make any headway in rebuilding that area?
Hell, that zone was so much trapped in time, you could actually go there and meet a young NPC named Penelope Yin.
You could then go to another zone, and see the very same NPC, all grown up and part of a major super hero team.
It was weird…

Lion’s Arch feels like it’s kinda in a similar limbo… I dunno how much developer resources it would take to fix things there, but I would guess that they are just focusing on other things right now.

“If half as many people were half as brave in real life as they were online…
… The human race would never have to worry about be oppressed again.”
I think trolls should have their computers smashed. ’Its all part of the game. U mad bro?’

If you’re going to try and sell a living world, you’d think this would be fairly high on the priority list.

But it has changed! And what’s more, they are implementing these changes live without pushing a patch.

They could at least start with fixing the Fort Marriner Waypoint since it’s stuck being contested.

I think Lion’s Arch destruction and rebuilding was another half thought up idea by Anet like underwater game play. Why take the time to make it fully rebuilt when they could just ignore and deny it’s even there.

Same type of complaint was brought up in GW1 how players said it’s been 4 or 5 years since Ascalon destruction and nothing has changed.

Kill stuff to unlock weapons skills, most confusing thing I ever heard of. (sarcasm)

But look at Ascalon now, ~250 game years later and it’s not much better. The city is still in ruins, and haunted. The land itself doesn’t offer much, and is no where near being as fertile as it once was.

Judging from the chatter in some of Queensdale and in my home instance in DR, Lion’s Arch hasn’t even been destroyed yet, what with whining that the caravan is late and how they should go there instead of the relatives coming to Queensdale.

That waypoint being contested is part of the living story 2. Mordremoth and its minions have “corrupted” several waypoints across Tyria, that being one of them.

If you’re going to try and sell a living world, you’d think this would be fairly high on the priority list.

Sadly people here always complained about the temporary content of the living world
and how bad it is that other players can’t replay it whenever they want, and so they
stopped the living world.
And even if LS 2 has still the living in its name, beside some tentrils its more or less
all content frozen in time because people didn’t wanted a living world.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

While I’m disappointed with the speed of the city’s recovery, I figure it’ll take time given all the current distractions.

Living story changes parts all over Tyria. Mostly the scars in the landscape stay after the story moves on. I suppose it’s not different for LA. But yes, it would be nice to have this place restored in a way that all functions are restored around a central place where we enter the town.

Yeah, I don’t ‘get’ their lethargy on this.

One of the GREAT selling points of this game is its aesthetics.

And yet, despite this, one of, if not THE best visual attractions lies in prolonged ruin.

Surely a refreshed LA would benefit the game.

Ironic as ANet have always specialised in fugly. Ascalon post searing, realm of torment, ring of fire, Kaineng city, fissure of woe, most of the underworld, desolation, domain of anguish all soooo much fugly. GW2 is heading the same way, it was bad enough with Orr but now they are busy turning the good areas into fugly.

I get the whole dramatic “dragons are coming” and all that, but really, it’s meant to be an enjoyable game, stop wrecking everything with so much fugly!!!!

Just posting to say that I’m one of those “unsuspecting travelers” who has fallen into the darn holes in the bridges more times than I care to admit.

I’ll board the things up myself if I have to, just cover the holes >.<

Very good point. I hope the powers that be look at the big picture when deciding on their next move and realize not much if anything has changed in the last 2.5 years. It’s time to shake things up in a big way. I for one would love to see Orr cleansed and become a relative peaceful realm. The enemies driven back into a place we haven’t discovered yet.

As for the dungeons, that’s a tough call.

I don’t think they want it turning into what it was before, just dozens of people standing around there while other cities are empty. Now cities seem lively no matter where you go.

I’ve been offended that Queen Jenna could waste money on a month long party but nothing can be spared to help fund the rebuilding of LA.
