Lion's Arch: Will it Evolve Over time?
Gilded Grimoire[MAGI]. Casual Guild www.gw2magi.com
Are you asking players if they have information about further development of Lion’s Arch? If so, I think the answer is no. This sounds like a question for a dev.
If you are asking if we’d like lion’s arch to expand, then sure. I’d also like Dynamic Events to occur within each of the cities.
1 event per point of interest to liven up the area, introduce people to the lore, and offer incentives to visit other places. And they don’t need to require combat.
“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
Neither a Suggestion nor a Question posed for a Developer. Rather, to the community, to gauge how they feel about Lion’s Arch. I see all these reviews where they call Lion’s Arch ‘beautiful’. I find it empty and boring. Maybe I suck?

I agree GW2 Lions Arch reminds me of a shanty town, GW1 Lions Arch had a feel of grandeur akin to Divinities Reach to me..

I gonna go ahead and disagree with that…LA in GW2 is grander than LA in GW1, imo.
@armaduras
I don’t find it empty. I do feel like there should be activities to do inside LA (minigames and dynamic events) to make it more lively outside of the “GLF2M FotM 4”
But as far as NPC population and interaction, it’s pretty good.

the Moa Races and Minipet Battles would be nice and small activities. However the city itself doesn’t feel (at the moment) like it is Grand. As far as GW1 goes, Lion’s Arch was really small.

Considering that it has evolved over time (statue being destroyed, etc), I would venture a guess that that would continue.
I am interested to see where it goes. Lately, I have been extremely happy with some of the moves Anet is making. Not so happy with some, but overall, I look forward to seeing the Tyria of GW2 in a year or two.

NEVER FORGET
There’s certainly plenty of room for which it to expand. ANet seems to pretty committed to slowly evolving the game, so I don’t see why it won’t. This is actually one of the reasons I don’t want Guild Halls – I’d rather just have people around town.
To derail my topic some, imagine a Guild Hall where you also get an entire Region and Guild Events are in that region. Through completing the events, your guild hall upgrades over time. Maybe I played too much Assassins Creed 3, lately.
But yes, we have a new lighthouse, the statue/fountain rebuild itself. Now to replace the bridges with stonework.. and replace the shacks with houses! Better Roads!

Currently, Lion’s Arch looks like a Refugee Village. Some of the early concept art for Lion’s Arch made it look Grand, yet what we are stuck with now are ruins of old ships, makeshift bridges and run down shacks. Will Lion’s Arch Improve with each expansion? Will the Multiracial Experiment that is Lion’s Arch bloom into a full fledged city? Will it actually evolve over time?
I played GW1 since 2005, I know that the old Lion’s Arch wasn’t much of anything but, in GW2 it is suppose to be this great experimental city where all the races, tolerate each other.
Let me ask my anet father – oh wait…….
no one knows /thread
I’ve always thought it lacked the vibe of being a really diverse city. Even looking at the art on the loading screen makes me think it has buildings and streets, but then I’m completely let down when you actually look at it in game.
It’s the best place ever right now.
The ark of the lion changes often!
I like to go see if things are moving.
The lighthouse building pleases me well, I’d like to make a jumping puzzle!
But there is a Charr, for example, built his shop. we will see it soon?
it would be nice to see the slum evolve, become beautiful.
Boat deck or start renovation. I’m sure it would be amazing.
And non-use portals? they will become what?
The Quaggan will extend them a little village?
is that small houses are opened to visits?

I love the evolution that is taking the world of gw2, but I’m sad to see that the lighthouse has not been finished this month!
The ark of the lion has not yet lighthouse!
I think LA and DR are two of the most visually impressive MMO towns I’ve ever seen. I think all the towns actuall have a lot going for them, but I agree that I wish there was more reason to be there except crafting, especially div reach. I don’t have an answer or suggestion, but it would be a shame to let such impressive places go to waste.
Asura Mesmer – Fort Aspenwood
Feng Shui is very off in that city. I sugest they bring in a Cathan to balance the cities energies with a new layout.
I don’t know how anyone can look at LA in Guild Wars 1 and find it majestic. Maybe it would have been if it had actual buildings or something. All the cities in Propehecies, such as they were, were big open areas, mostly with some tents that people stood outside of.
LA was pretty hyped up the first time I played GW and getting to LA was supposedly a big deal. I excpected a city when I got there.
Lack of cities was one of my big complaints about GW 1 and Rift. The cities in WoW, like Stormwind were much better (and I hate WoW). Guild Wars 2 finally made cities worth exploring.
It’s supposed to look like a refugee camp. Bad stuff is happening across the map and you expect LA to be all grandiose? It’s part of the story.

I thought the cities in GW1 were better. Yeah they were open areas but thats all the city was for, to stand around it, and use a merchant, or spam trade in the channel. They layout made sense to the game. Why would you want a city when players dont live in cities. People dont work or live in LA, theres no houses or jobs to goto or places to have fun, sure you can add that in and make it look like a city, but its not. In this game, its a place to hang out, use the TP, craft and mystic forge, thats it. The game should reflect that. Maybe LA will evolve into a city when the game evolves to need a city. This is just fake. Cities are places people go to congregate, trade, share idea etc. Its not a place someone out of the sky builds, its happens naturally.
When I first got to LA the first thing that came to my mind was apart from the polygon overload was, where is everybody? It wasnt until they BUFFED the DRAGON EVENTS with gauranteed rares was the first time I actually saw players and their different armors in weapons in game. THE FIRST TIME LA fails.

Indeed, LA in GW1 was basically a fishing village with a lot of nice community areas and the odd bit of statuary.
LA in GW2 is a bit shanty-town-esque, but do people not understand that that is part of the point? LA2 (as I shall call it) is a city recovering from the disaster that sank LA1, it is a city run by pirates, essentially, not by some sort of beauty-obsessed king or dictator or emperor. It is a trade city, with little or no central planning.
It is also very rich in detail and very interesting to explore, and quite like some of actual, y’know, city, far more so than most MMOs.
I mean, GW2 provides you options, city-wise. Really, between the five cities, they cover absolutely all the bases visually and theme-wise. Find the one you like, and if you really can’t stand LA, only go there when you have to.
I do hope LA does expand and change a bit over time, but not into some Divinity’s Reach rip-off, which I’m pretty sure is what the OP wants.

Different strokes for different folks. I take it you’re not an immersion player. You don’t really care about being immersed in the world or the game.
When I go out into Tyria, I’m immersed. When I go to a city, I expect to see a city. Surely you’ve seen and heard others rave about the cities in Guild Wars 2. I’ve never heard anyone rave about the cities in Guild Wars 1. They were utilitarian, true, but there’s more to a game than just function.
OPINION ALERT:
I do believe LA should evolve over time, but not too fast. Maybe over the course of a year or two (real time) the ships begin to make way for real buildings, starting with a real Bank building and Trader building, considering that’s where everyone hangs out.
Just my 2 cents here. yes i believe LA will continue to change over time, as it has since launch… Also, Eurhetemec hit the nail on the head. The look and feel of LA is perfect along-side it’s current lore. The city is amazing btw. It’s freaking huge, full of interesting nooks and crannies, artwork and interesting characters. I mean it even has a sewer system for goodness sake! honestly, LA and the thing things they have done with it so far is freaking impressive. And it’s only a small part of the game…
