I’m fussy about what dyes work well together and how my amour looks, and it would be a pain to purchase every dye in the game just to experiment. So to make it easier for us all, I’m going to list dye combinations that people suggest work well together and which class they think it suits the most. I will 100% keep updating this post if people show interest. I’ll start by adding a few combinations I like myself:

[GUARDIAN]

- Ebony, Mint Frost & Winter Ice
- Sapphire & Crystal

[WARRIOR]

[ENGINEER]

- Pitch, Lipstick & Mithril
- Sage & Ivory

[RANGER]

- Celestial & Sour Apple

[THIEF]

[ELEMENTALIST]

- Midnight Red, Celestial & Antique Gold

[MESMER]

- Abyss, Phlox & Grapesicle
- Midnight Ice, Starry Night, Mithril & White Gold

[NECROMANCER]

- Midnight Ice & Cucumber

I have midnight ice and cucumber for my necromancer. It seems to match some of the effects nicely.

I use Midnight Red, Celestial, and Antique Gold on my ele ‘right now’ but I’ve changed it depending on how it looks on the armor she’s wearing.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

My necromancer’s armor is dyed to match Imyrldeen. (Excuse the misspelling, if applicable.)

My engineer’s armor is dyed to match the Wintersday Charr Toy Soldier mini. (And the pop-gun.)

My ranger is in Ocean and Canteloupe, I think…..I don’t have the game open right now. To me, it looks really nice and matches the default Dragon Helm color and Molten Facility gloves.

My mesmer is in turquoises, teals and lavenders, and a medium-light blue, to match the icon colors, sort of…lol.

My thief and ele are undecided, at this time. Maybe when they get weapons or backpieces I especially love….

I use midnight fire as the main color, wrath for the chainmail and redemption for the decorations on most of my warrior’s heavy armors.

For “plate” style heavy armor, I really like Antique Bronze with Oil Slick. Looks really sharp, and kind of “battleworn”.

For mixed “leather and plate” style heavy armor, I like Black for the leather parts, and Fog for the metal parts. The contrast between the two looks great.

My Mesmer dresses heavily in Lipstick, Gunmetal, Ocean and Abyss, with hints of Mythril and Cotton Candy. She wound up with this sort of “Anime Space Princess Battle Dress” look that’s just a little more stripperiffic than I’d prefer, but I have to admit looks really cool in motion.

My Guardian wears Ash, Iron, Blood and Flame. Guess his race.

Former Guild Wars 2 fan. RIP, ArenaNet’s integrity.

The only way to play the engineer is to exploit it.
Playing the engineer “as intended” is simply not viable.

I’ve found that Starry Night and Redemption pretty much always look great together on medium or heavy armor.

For a while, I was running Pine/Remembrance/Patina on my male human ranger with the T3 coat.

Sincerity and Mithril work very well on my guardian (I’m wearing the gem store armor with T3 human shoulders). The main part is Sincerity, and the pattern is in Mithril.

On a side note, certain dyes have very contrasting accents. I read about it on some forum somewhere, and tested it out in world. Patina and Heirloom are the best examples of this; one has green highlights, and the other has sort of orange-gold highlights. Wintergreen and Pine have it too (green/blue and greenish-brown/green, respectively), though they’re much more subtle. The effect is especially obvious on the T3 human heavy shoulders, which will fade from one shade to the other towards the tips. This effect also makes Patina in particular good for small highlights, as the green will make it pop.

Also, I’ve noticed there are certain dyes that aren’t Frost/Fire dyes that still have a lot of contrast. I’ve found that they seem to be named after virtues and sins. So, Sincerity, Illumination, Remembrance, Redemption, Wrath, Pride, Arrogance, Forgiveness, and (if I remember correctly) Spite and Envy all have more contrast. When possible, I try to use these dyes over other, similar options, though that’s not always possible.

Any light armor class if you want to match the new Zenith weapon skins: Peach Ice, Illumination, and Pastel Purple, or any light purple.
