Some bugs should be super easy to fix, but have gone unaddressed for a long time. Certain tiny quality-of-life changes have been long suggested, but never implemented.

Admittedly, we aren’t all programmers, so we don’t really know if something would be super easy to do or not. But if it seems like it should be something that they should be able to make happen without much effort, then list it here!

Let’s make a compilation for the programmers all in one place of the little stuff we’ve been dying to see taken care of.
__________________________________________________

  • Remember the CHAT CHANNEL we were last using when we log out and log back in again.
  • Remember our DYE SORTING PREFERENCES (by Hue/Material/Set) when we log out and log back in again.
  • Fix the loud FIREWORKS in Harathi Hinterlands, Dredgehaunt Cliffs, etc. associated with Guild activities, that blows non-participants clear out of their seats from the other side of the zone.
  • Increase Minipet Speed so that they keep up with their owner.
  • Don’t make minipets disappear underwater. If for some reason they must, then make them reappear when you emerge.
  • Put ALL FOUR COMPASS POINTS (N,S, E, W) on the rotating version of the mini map, and designate them “always on top” so they don’t get hidden by other map edge icons.
  • If a “miscellaneous NPC” is standing near a Banker, or a Merchant, or some other “useful NPC”, then make sure he can NOT be interacted with. (How many times have I clicked to open my Storage, and the NPC next to me says “How do you do?”?)
  • Let us be able to DISMISS a “Called Target”. Sometimes they get called by mistake, and the only way to get rid of it is to reselect a white-text creature and kill it.
  • Make Hero Window navigation easier: display the “Equipment / Wardrobe / Dyes” selections as TABS, so you can go there in a single click instead of navigating backwards. (Okay, this one’s a little more involved, perhaps).
  • Re-institute key-binding for instant swap between armor and Outfits.

What other things can you think of that should be SUPER EASY to fix/change?

  • First person zoom that is disabled in PvP, WvW and in-combat for PvE.
  • Just temporarily hire some poor college grad who’s been looking for a job for 1+ years and have him/her go through every item in the game and FINALLY ORGANIZE THE TRADING POST.
    Please?
  • Retain guild chat upon character swap.
  • Make ranger (and Necro) pets only vulnerable to certain attcks at Tequatl and go ahead and let them do damage at the sparring rock. IF AND WHEN pets become a problem at these things, THEN you can nerf them. Stop trying to anticipate exploits with pets and just let it all play out first. There are plenty of other no-brainer exploits to think about.

Sorry to be harsh on that one, but that one is harsh on us.

For heaven’s sake fix uneven terrain handling by our combat skills. It’s simple math and how they can’t deal with it is sad.

1) Invulnerability occurs way to often
2) PC actions not working right because of it (mesmer blink, etc.)

In addition, the tenacity of “in-combat” is way too much. Once all conditions are gone and your toon is not hit “in-combat” should be gone.

Seems silly compared to some of the other stuff… but make certain pieces of armor/equipment dyeable? Like, say, the Radiant Mantle or Helm? or the Wizard’s Hat? It’d be nice to be able to dye the base metal, for example; and the hat might see more use if you could match it to the rest of your armor. I know there’s a number of items like that. And maybe make ‘plain’ weapons- like say the ordinary ones you buy at a weaponsmith- dyeable?

I’ll put gamebreaking level ones.

1. Twilight Arbor Up path – Fyonna. Make her aggressive as the hatchlings spawn, instead of aggressive only after the NPC is killed by the hatchlings. I’ve been in parties where someone kills the hatchlings before the NPC can die; the entire dungeon breaks and Fyonna is never set aggressive again until a full dungeon reset.

2. Citadel of Flame Path Magg’s path – Allow the Magg ‘feeding prisoners to devourers’ sequence to start up after the door opens, instead of after his previous dialogue line ends. Reaching the marked room before his dialogue ends breaks the entire dungeon and a full reset is necessary.

3. Serene in Dry Top – prevent her from attacking any mob that does not directly attack her, and change her pathing slightly to allow moving down the slight incline between the final two crystals… or reduce the spawn time of the mobs in the area during the event. Anyone who has soloed Serene in T5 Dry top runs knows exactly the frustration of which I speak when Serene ping-pongs between two zones repeatedly attacking Veterans for no reason, even when under Stealth.

4. Amber Jungle Wurm: Veteran Plague Carrier Abominations. Make sure the white AoE always assigns the Wurm Attractant status effect – at the moment it bugs out at a 5% rate, which on the final burn phase in part I can lead to a double-decapitation event fail.

There’s several other annoying issues, but these are the only gamebreaking ones I can think of off the bat, which incidentally aren’t very hard to fix.

something like “too far away from target”.

remove HoM reward pets from being automatically unlocked for everyone in pvp! i did’nt max out the hall to earn Black Widow just to see everyone else have one too! (they are purely cosmetic so there is no advantage/disadvantage, just the top tier of cosmetic reward being given to everyone!)

convert “outfits” in to armour skins, they are all separable anyway! (we know this because they used to be separate items before the wardrobe update) all it’d take is one guy to do a bit of coding and tadaa!
they’d make loads of money from this too, because everyone has “that one little bit” of each outfit that they like

Human female running animation, unless someone deleted all the old animation files. [Once they decide to spend some money and make running animation a character trait than can be selected at creation and changed with a make over kit, you can re-apply the newer healthy and appropriate animation as something that can be changed on a character, for those that don’t like the original.]

Not entirely sure why you can’t adapt the swimming animation for the Lion Cubs to the Puppy and Plush Griffon, who have the same basic structure.

Place a Guild Banker near the Mystic Forge. I presume a Guild Banker is just a type of NPC and you pick it in the little tool-maker-thingy and then click a little empty spot on the ground by the forge. About the only thing that might be complex there is thinking of a name for the NPC (I’m partial to Whitey McWhiterton).

That covers all my pet peeves except my shorts, which maybe isn’t exactly ‘easy’, but I’ll wager it’s a lot easier than they are letting on, and the decision was solely values based, they just won’t admit it. I have an outfit I used to wear that would work fine with 4 dye channels, and I’d be happy to send it to you. I would buy it again, and I bet it would sell great. Which…would give you lots of new money to spend on the other little things I listed. :p

Giving us hair underneath our hats, for cripes sakes how was this not in at launch?

And this may seem hard at first, but from an animators perspective, it isn’t, at all. The hat is just its own model attached a certain distance from animation bones inside the head, the head moves, the hat moves in concert. Increase the distance and make hair and hats separate items, and voila, you characters head won’t be inexplicably shaved by clothing items. This is literally no harder than the bobble head gimmick they already pulled over the entire game.

I’d like them to change the dodge mechanic, because now it’s essentially a spell. I don’t fully accept that you can’t have a limitless dodge capacity, anyway. I’d like a slider to reduce spell particles, because in a zerg fight, I see no tells whatsoever. And I’d like more nuance in dungeon fights, so it’s not about slamming a boss into a corner & melee to the finish. (I’d like a use for non-berserker gear & the more interesting traits) And I’d like my character to have a voice again. I don’t care if it’s a new actor (for the Norn, I’d be rather pleased with a new actor, & the female human – eh.)

Nobody’s mentioned Hobosacks yet? Guess that means I might as well.

First, some background for the people who don’t know:

  • Engineers have Kits, which replace their Weapon Skill bar.
  • Kits include a back item component, sometimes referred to as a Hobosack.
  • This Hobosack item overrides your equipped back item.
  • When a Kit Weapon skill is used, the equipped back item clips through the Hobosack.

This is widely considered hideous and causes Engineers to miss out on, or get very little enjoyment from, a lot of the metarewards, many of which are back items. The last time Anet bothered to comment on the issue was about a year ago, with a comment about possibly making it about like Elementalists have it – a ‘boon’ indicator marking what kind of Kit is equipped.
Apparently, people are supposed to be looking at the back item, often obscured by your character or nearly identical to other Hobosacks, for a hint as to what you’ll be able to do…despite the most effective Engineers switching madly from Kit to Kit at even higher rates than Elementalists and Attunements, as Kit-swapping doesn’t have a cooldown.

So: My proposed Super Easy Fix/Change?
A bit of code that checks whether the Back Item is visible, and only spawns a Kit on the player’s back if it is not visible. The kits themselves are pretty much no tell at all, especially given the highly visual nature of GW2 combat and the frenetic pace of swapping.
This is the most concise method I’ve yet come up with to fix the situation; even unskinned back items have a visibility checkbox, so it could perhaps fix the situation entirely.

Oh yeah, 3 targeting ones.

1. Remove the click-targeting of allies in combat without a button being held down. Because it’s currently too difficult to click-target enemies while allies melee it.

2. Add a button we can hold down to cast a skill as if targetless. That way we can leave auto-targeting on but still decide when we want to lunge in the direction we’re facing with some skills instead of back toward the enemy chasing us.

3. Remove the auto-targeting and pet aggro from ranger warhorn 5. It’s our run faster skill, not our “please go attack that and slow me down” skill.

These 2 changes would only lead to harassing.

Imagine that you’ve been doing fractals with 4 other friends and suddenly 2 of them have to leave for some reason. So you put up an LFG and 2 people join in and decide to just troll and afk to their hearts content because;

A: if you leave the party the instance ownership gets turned to them and they can proceed to sell it.
B: You can’t kick them because one of the two people will refuse the vote and leave you stuck there with them.

Instance ownership should stay as it is because while sometimes it might be frustrating to lose your progress because the owner needs to go it would be much less painful than having someone steal your progress and reap the rewards.

When using the auto attack feature characters should target one of the five monsters within touching distance beating them and not the out of range obstructed Moa halfway across the map!

Right click option to use all for magic find/Orrian skill boxes/karma containers since they aren’t tied to titles.

Characters should not randomly lose upwards of 19k hit points by walking five feet down a slope.

Let us run at normal speeds in combat since even the undead with their decaying limbs and rotting muscles can outpace us. It feels like bullet time without the benefits for Charr and Norn. Give us a reason to not want to run past the enemies instead of artificially slowing us down because none exists.

Let instances stay alive for 5-15 minutes after all players have left.

This is pretty common in every MMO i’ve played, and so if you crash or have a disconnect
in a solo instance you can reenter and don’t have to restart from the beginning.

This gets even more important with all the new instanced in LS2

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.

2. World Bosses (easy fixes)
a) Make fire elemental more durable (dies in 5-10 seconds)
b) Make svanir shaman walk down into the storm, so people can’t stand still next to him autoattacking
c) Make Shatterer flap his wings causing a brand storm on the side (to stop people from standing still on his right side)

3. Add the masks from GW1 (eg. Skull Mask, Wolf Mask, Dragon mask(s), Zombie Mask

4. Make a popup (similar to the party’s) when you’re in a squad
(for example, the profile of your commander and a list of numbered classes for the rest)

5. Turn the mark of the commander you’re following yellow
(world events and guild events can often have up to 15 commanders, you can’t mouse over everyone of them until you find yours)

6. First Person (I can’t stress this enough THIS IS EXTREMELY EASY TO FIX ONE OR TWO DAYS OF WORK, I’VE SEEN FRIENDS IN DESIGNER SCHOOL DESIGN FP-3P IN AN AFTERNOON)

7. Seperate mobs that don’t trigger trait (ghosts) from mobs that don’t trigger loot (adds)

8. Party Leader, when he leaves, don’t kick everyone out of a dungeon.

The next 3 are less easy, but also doable in a decent amount of time:

Duelling: an area 1.5x the size of the length of the longest distance skill a player has available
Duel ends when one player hits 1% health

Guild v Guild (and Guild Halls)

Mounts:
(don’t get me wrong here)
I AM STRICTLY AGAINST MOUNTS IN PVE
however, in WvW you get a different issue (walking 5-10 minutes before catching up to a squad if you survive the run to them)
so Mounts in WvW would be welcome with the following limitations:
1. Any form of damage removes the mount
2. Cannot mount past your own border (which will be defined by which points you control)
3. Cannot mount when hostile players are near you

- Make WvW badge items salvageable again or put a red warning “UNSALVAGEABLE” on any item which is unsalvageable. (I mean really, how would a new player know this? Why were mistforged weps unsalvageable, but racial t3 is? Idk…).

- When I equip a two-handed weapon where there used to be two one-handed weps, make BOTH one-handers go into the bag which the two-hander was in (i.e. my safebox).

- Allow sigils on legends to be removed at will, even if they remain soul or account bound

- A way to remove people from your follower list without blocking them

- Allow ascended items to be salvaged. They could drop on exactly the same table as exotics for all I care.

- Champs who will not drop boxes should be labelled as such, or should not be champs. This way new players will not waste time attacking useless champs (inquest at the dry top race event, e.g.) and we will know if champs are bugged or intended to have no drop (Tazza, SE p1? General SE p3?)

- Second above comment — even non-dropping mobs should still trigger sigils like bloodlust. Although having so many non-dropping mobs in the latest LS is really just kind of annoying.

What seems to you to be easy to add to the game in most case are not, if you understand anything about programing you would know that something that may seem easy to you could take thousands of lines of code. I stared learning to program back in the 80s and even then with the limited amount of memory we had to work in, programs had thousands of lines of code. A few friends and I started a text based fantasy game on the Commodore 64 and when we finely got broad with the project we were well over 1000 lines. Yes I know our little programing venture doesn’t compare to the games of today where line of code can and most likely go into the millions. Also most games are developed on a program called a game engine, this engine is the basic framework of the game. Some suggestion people make may not be posable in the game engine without a total rewrite of the engine. Must people have a false sense of how programing works, people think that all a dev has to do is sit in front of a PC bang on the keyboard for a few seconds and walla the new feature is added. Programing takes time even if several people are working on the same project it could take months to develop and add this stuff so don’t count on any of this stuff ever happening. Don’t get me wrong the dev do listen to the game fans as a whole and if a suggestions are with in the limitations of the engine some do get added over time. So don’t stop making suggestion just know programing is not easy as the thread title implies.

For what it’s worth, I think Hamfast knows that, and even says so in her OP.

Giving us hair underneath our hats, for cripes sakes how was this not in at launch?

I second this one, for sure. An easy fix would be to create a standard short or tied-back hairstyle that gets activated for certain hats or helmets. Maybe it’s not ideal for people who chose longer hairstyles, but it’s a hundred times better than suddenly going BALD.

What seems to you to be easy to add to the game in most case are not, if you understand anything about programing you would know that something that may seem easy to you could take thousands of lines of code.

OP clearly admitted to this in their second paragraph. Granted, maybe none of these ideas are actually “easy,” but it is all relative. I think the goal is to aim for more “bang for your buck,” and come up with relatively minor tweaks that would greatly improve the player experience. Of course, some posters here have blatantly ignored the point of the topic and just asked for major overhauls and new features…

once you got the recipe of crafting a thing, and if you have all raw material enough to craft one, you can just click craft at that item, and it auto make all parts and craft the item. So you don’t have to go back to craft every single part one by one.
I don’t mind the game makes me to watch the crafting process bar runs for crafting each part, for game playing time, but really hate to find out recipe of each part and craft each of them one by one.

I don’t think they can do this because some of the food items are layers deep. For example: Feast of Rare Veggie Pizzas requires 10 Rare Veggie Pizzas, which require Super Veggie Pizzas, which require Fancy Veggie Pizzas, which require Mushroom Pizzas, which require Cheese Pizzas, which require a Jar of Tomato Sauce and a Ball of Dough.

Probably the perfect example right there. However, walking a tree is a basic programmer skill that most will have to master by sophomore year. I don’t think that storing even the several references that feast of rare veggie pizza requires and computing whether you can make the overall items would eat so much memory that it couldn’t be done.
