Good afternoon. Today in Guild wars 2 I play a lot of Russian players, and many, as I came in the game thanks to the first part of Guild wars. Are there any future plans for the localization of games for Russian-speaking players. So we waited and hoped that the translation, even partial, will be in 2016, but alas, there is not any news. We play and want to play, but it’s difficult for many to overcome the language barrier. I hope for the understanding of developers and waiting for localization.

This is was not a problem in GW1 they translate main story, items, skills etc, and later patches releases on english so i don’t see so much problem. This is why Blizzard do better job and treat they costumers on all languages equally.

And again, you missed my point about Guild Wars 1 being a small lobby game with instanced maps and lower costs to run as opposed to a full fledged MMO, where the costs are higher and the dialog needed to translate is greater.

But just get a good outsource text localization company for Russian? How about all the other languages I’ve seen people asking for the game to be translated to? Do they all get translated with all the costs that come with it, or is Russian a special case?

There’s more to localizations than just translating text and having new dialog done. They’d have to hire support staff that can read it to handle tickets submitted by Russian speaking players and to handle non-Russian players reporting text in Russian they feel may be violating the rules.

And it would be until they shut the game down as they can’t go back on it. The cost to implement it would outweigh the money brought in.

What was the special case with German or French? My guess is, it was from statistics on other similar games that the cost of translating to German or French would be recovered by the increased numbers of French and German players and adding a Russian translation would not increase the number of Russian players to offset costs. There may be a lot of Russian speakers, but only a few will play Guild Wars 2. Potential market size is not actual market size.

And to say a game not translating your language means you’re being treated like subhuman, comments like that don’t help your argument.

So far, I’ve yet to see anyone offer even back-of-the-envelope estimates that suggest that benefits would even match the costs, let alone exceed them (as it would need to do to be a good business investment).

So yes, it would be good to understand the different markets before claiming that anyone is being treated as “subhuman” because their native tongue isn’t localized.

With 1.4 billion revenue and 11 place of all countries in 2016 i don’t see the problem to put at least subtitles, just like do most modern games. So yes, it would be better for all understand the different markets and profit from them.

Still irrelevant. The revenue of a country matters about as much as the country’s ethnic statistics. What matters are statistics about online gaming.

Here is the thing about NCSOFT games. Games managed by NCSOFT are only in English, German, Spanish and French for NA/EU. Games licensed from NCSOFT and day to day is run by 3rd parties who pay NCSOFT royalties for the privilege, can be localized by those 3rd parties.

So until NCSOFT or ANet licenses a 3rd party to run servers in Russia, don’t think you will be seeing it happen.

And then those servers tend to be completely separate from the NA/EU ones. So you’d have to buy the game again to be able to play in Russian and you’d not be able to play with anyone who decides to not get the game on the Russian servers.

I never understood how you cannot learn English these days. I remember back in the 90ies every game was English and i was only 10 years old. I just had to learn it. Hard was my first JRPG – I had a dictionary by my side and just looked up every word I didn’t understand. Just learn the language, I always play games in English – so I never understood people complain about games, apps, OS etc. without localization. It’s ridiculous and narrows your mind if you only can speak your native tongue.

Yes, it is a pity that does not provide for the transfer of Guild wars 2 in the near future. In our small Guild from Guild wars 1 already wants to move to a new world, but since most players don’t know English, we are forced to seek other worlds. Alas, in Russia all games aimed only at getting money from players, and almost all the games on a lot of levels lower than the level of Guild wars. We hope and we wait at least a partial translation of the game. With respect, the Guild: Wind of the Desert.

Dear, may You have an infinitely wide horizons, the brain, and You’re not very advanced, but I ask You to speak only for myself. A bit related to OP, a bit off topic – I have a question. If Anet were to release the game in russian, would the game be allowed for sale i Russia? It has LGBT content, most notably in the personal story. Not trying to derail or anything, just curious.

Yes it will be allowed why not? There is no problem with LGBT until they start their media or public propaganda, even Dragon Age: Inqusition didn’t has a problem with localization in Russia and what i’ve seen in GW2 personal story did not has much trouble.
