Q:
Lock login character in place
So I guess you can’t then? And Anet probably wont add it ether.
But why is it there? It can’t be the sole reason to just confuse players, to my mind it’s just bad design and serve no purpose then just let you know that it was the last character you played.
The point is that it puts your most recently played character in the front spot. That is convenient for most players.
GW1 gave you the option to order them alphabetically. Perhaps that would be good for them to add in the future and would be what you’re lookng for?
FlamingFox is right, it’s so that the characters you played most recently are at the ‘front’ of the list, with the one you last played right at the front. For people who have one main character they play the majority of the time and then alts they play occasionally this is very convenient, and that seems to be the majority of players.
It would be nice to be able to put them in different orders. Alphabetically would be good, a custom order would be even better (but probably much harder to do).

I don’t really care what order they are, just that they don’t move around. So I don’t have to login and then logout just to get them in some sort of order.
Don’t know how many times I logged in with the wrong character, then have to wait a few min to load, logout and try again. It’s faster to just alt+f4 and start the game again.
I think off the top of my head in GW1 you could order them alphabetically, in order of last played, and in order of creation. Potentially you could also order them based on whether they were PvE or PvP characters, but obviously GW2 doesn’t have that distinction.
Well, I don’t see why we can’t click and drag them, then have the ability to lock them in place.
