Lock out mystic forge and looting during BETA
Was it a mystic forge precursor or a drop from a mob precursor?
ANet may give it to you.
Believe it or not, this exact thing happened to a guild mate of mine. I think Anet should just be nice and grant precursors to the main account. Otherwise it’s just a punch in the gut.
It’s not a punch in the gut. The beta characters come with free exotics. Tons of them. An infinite number. People are using free exotics to get precursors.
Why is anyone in the beta test using the forge in the first place? You will not be allowed to keep your loot, because you’re stuff isn’t being stored to a server. It’s a copy of your bank, not your actual bank, when you log in on a beta slot.

Considering you can get an unlimited number of exotics by making new revenants……………………………………………….

Not going to happen as it would disrupt the economy and like 5th thread on this already ppl getting precusers on beta toon.
“ANet. They never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity to not mess up.”
Mod “Posts created to cause unrest with unfounded claims are not allowed” lmao
Now if it was a drop from the mob I would certainly sympathize. But if from the forge with the free exotics given you then nope. No way Jose.

Agree 100%. People with beta access know they can’t keep what they got on the beta character. If you go ahead and use your FREE exotics in the forge that’s your own fault. I won’t be doing that with mine!
people sure are silly during betas
ANET should have not mixed the beta with the game in the first place. Lol. Or have a HUGE FAT WARNING IN BOLD DIALOGUE box that appears each time you log into your Rev and you have to type “I understand and accept” before you can continue.

There’s only a warning permanently at the top of your screen the entire time you’re playing….

A punch in the gut? I don’t think so! Re-rolling revs for the MASS of exotic weapons to forge for precursors; I think it’s (1 of every weapon + armor + jewlery) x3. If you don’t get what you want, you just reroll and go again. Due to this, it’s pretty obvious why A-net is not allowing anything to be moved.
I’ve never gotten a precursor. You know what I would do if my revenant got one? Laugh. Then shrug and move on. Getting a pre on your rev today doesn’t hurt your chances of getting one on a real character tomorrow. People who can’t handle beta limitations should avoid betas.

I know, but people sometimes don’t see it. or forgot about it. Or have a constant reminder that you are playing beta, and everything that you get in beta will be deleted.
Mine was a drop. I hope they don’t grant us the ability to transfer to a main character as I deleted mine lol….
I just don’t see a point in the forge and looting items being available during the beta, we cant keep it so why is it there? might as well lock it like they did with the tp
The whole ’I’m mad because I can’t keep all these skins and this precursor I obtained from putting in infinite exotics into the mystic forge’ is getting really tiring to be honest.
Aren’t people well aware by now that, as it says on the top of the loading screen (and any map in Beta for that matter) when you play your Beta character, that progress and rewards obtained by beta characters and on beta maps aren’t saved for your main account?
The only thing I do agree that is bad and relates to keeping items/progress, is how you have to make sure you’re on one of your non-beta characters at reset, so you don’t lose out on your daily log-in chest reward (maybe it’s been changed since last time? I don’t know, but just going by past history, players missed their daily log-in chest because they happened to be on a beta character when the log-in chest popped, so it could only be opened on that beta character, rendering their reward useless because it wasn’t kept).
@LimitBreaker.4165
I agree. Loot and rewards in general should just be unobtainable in the Beta, so people don’t QQ when they get something good. After all, the whole point in this Beta was to experiment with builds, weapons, etc. not to get loot.
Also, for those that didn’t see the permanent warning (or perhaps refuse to accept the truth that they saw the warning in the Beta for progress and rewards not being kept on Beta characters & maps, but continued to use the mystic forge in hopes that, once they obtained said precursor/s and skin/s, whine on the forums and hope they get to keep it), I’ve attached two pictures below and drawn a few arrows. The obvious has now been officially pointed out to you. You’re welcome.

Lmao, it’s obvious that you wouldn’t be able to keep anything from your beta character. So getting a pre on it is…pointless.
I got my first Pre today (The Legend) by spending 40 gold on rares after seeing others link and talk about their legendaries in map chat. Happy bunny after that. And yes, on my main account, i don’t do beta’s.
After that, spend some gold on the glob npc and came out on top : 48g+.
Good times, good times.

It SHOULD be obvious for most players to read the warning that progress and rewards on beta characters and maps aren’t saved, but I guess there’s a lot of players that can’t read :-/ Either that, or they know full well, but just want to whine in the hopes they’ll get their way and keep countless free skins and precursors (lol). My guess is the latter ;-)

They should not, they told us, as with every other game i know of, you won’t keep things from BETA.
Aaaaaaand it’s gone….
The whole ’I’m mad because I can’t keep all these skins and this precursor I obtained from putting in infinite exotics into the mystic forge’ is getting really tiring to be honest.
The answer is simple, simply lock out those features and the qq’ing ends. I mean after getting over the fact that ill probably never get a pre in the normal game you kinda understand why they don’t let you keep progression on it cause people can spam and remake revenants and forge their gear but why add that to the game? if their reason is to try out builds then whats the use of having a remake option when you pretty much get everything handed to you upon making a revenant anyways. Idk RNGesus pls gimme a pre lol.
Naw. No reason to lock it out. Consider it a life lesson that the warning on the top of the screen isn’t there just to be pretty. There’s plenty enough of hand holding in the game without protecting people from throwing in beta exotics to get a beta precursor back.
ANet may give it to you.
How about this? Since every1 already knows by now that you won’t get to keep it. Don’t loot and throw stuffs into MF to save yourself from the agony. Self control ppl, Seriously.
ANET should have not mixed the beta with the game in the first place.
I was actually surprised when I heard they were mixed. Just asking for trouble really.
If you went about “exploiting” the exotics in Mystic Toilet, then the punch in the gut is well earned.
Since looking for game flaws to exploit to gain unfair advantages, is prohibited in the ToS you signed when registering and installing GW2.
And isn’t the warning already printed on the top of your UI when you logged into the beta Revenant?
But if not, then it’s bad luck to get a pre-cursor drop while in beta.
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

In this case I think it’d be the same if they were on separate servers. People would still waste time throwing their free exotics into the forge and when they got a precursor ask for some way for it to be copied over.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
It would be nice that during the BETA our other bank material would be blocked. No point testing in Beta PvE if none of the world drops revert to your account….. Much better to either include drops or block it completely!
Perhaps they are using it to test player behavior.

This is actually not a problem. Colin said it on PoI and I confirmed it for myself. Your beta character is on a copied account. If you swap over to a live alt you will get the chest and dailies as if it was the first you’d logged in. He said “You can do the dailies on both live and beta if you really want, though I don’t know why you’d want to do them on the character that’s going away.” And he smiled, of course.
I made sure last night to log in on Donari for the dailies. Later I swapped to my revenant to show her to a guildie and voila, there was the daily chest bobbing around again. So no worries, just don’t spend time doing dailies on the rev unless you want them as a nudge towards things to test with the rev.
TL:DR
People are kitten because they can’t keep their precursors they got with their infinite exotics.
One thing that people haven’t mentioned: the more differences there are between BETA and LIVE, the less useful the test results are. Oh sure, it seems like disabling the forge shouldn’t matter much…except a high fraction of the recent bugs we have seen come from things changing in one mechanic that impacted other systems.
I think you all miss the point here. The amount of precursors that have dropped in beta since last night has clearly been inflated by anet. Don’t forget a lot of new players to the game bought gw2 and may not yet have earnt enough gold to buy items to try out in forge.
Anet is showing to them that the mystic forge is the place to go for fast precursor. Prompting new players to buy gems to get gold to throw in forge.
What new players won’t know, is that mystic forge in normal game will revert back to it’s extremely rare drop rate.
So anet are not trolling, they are on a marketing campaign lol

Really?! Or it could just be the fact that a not insignificant amount of players have an endless supply of account bound exotics on-hand. I sincerely doubt Anet is conditioning players to get “fast” pre-cursors via the MF, especially when they’re changing the system to obtain pre-cursors anyway.
I would believe they’re trolling people dumb enough to think that they would allow players to profit off of beta loot before I’d believe that this is a nefarious marketing campaign.

Agreed. My guess is a significant number of people getting amazingly lucky (or unlucky depending on how you look at it) by getting their first precursor from the forge on a revenant did it by throwing all their free exotics into the forge, deleting and re-creating the character and doing it again until they were “lucky” enough to get a drop.
Considering new revenants start in LA with 3 boxes of (I think) about 20 exotics each in their inventory, plus whatever they have equipped, it’d be extremely easy to do.
In the time I’ve been writing this I’ve been stood by the forge and seen 3 revenants run from their starting point (by the portal to Gendarren Fields) to the forge then log out. I can’t prove that’s what they’re doing of course, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
And this is why I can’t be bothered to test…I will wait until HoT is released to play the rev again. If testing was done on seperate servers, then I would not mind but mixiing it up on live as essentially a walking advertisement for pre-orders is rather cruel imo. The rev is clearly unfinished and missing things…it’s in alpha state far as I am concerned so testing should be done on seperate servers until it is more complete. Anyways, I would 100% support having no ability to loot/progress/use mystic forge/etc with the rev during these tests; you can’t complain if it can’t happen in the first place. Right?

As it turns out, the facts don’t back up this theory in the least. People who have collected data on crafting the ‘extra’ exotics from creating/destroying revenants have found they get just as many (or as few) precursors as has been documented in the regular game.
The difference this weekend is that there are tons of people with exotics that have no value, other than to be forged, so of course we’re seeing a lot more precursors from the forge.
Someone remind me what’s the point of wasting hours deleting/creating revenants and flushing down equips to make yourself mad over a precursor you can’t keep xD
Until I stop playing this game, I am going to get the precursor the normal way. Although I already have 2 from the forge which I did not expect, the only one I got “legit” is Venom. The most cheapest pre there is.
Better idea.
Make EVERY DROP a precursor or an ascended piece of gear.
You know it’s beta you should know you can’t keep it.

I can think of a few valid reasons to use the forge on a revenant. Some people did it simply because they opened all 3 equipment boxes, filling their inventory with useless exotics, and the forge was closer than a merchant.
Some people just wanted to try it out. Apparently a few people had never used the forge before, or never used it to try and get a precursor so maybe they just wanted to see what would happen and didn’t think about how they’d feel if they got one.
But I’d also guess some people were hoping once they got one either they’d figure out some way to get around the separation and keep it, or Anet would make an exception and let them have it on their actual account. Or simply didn’t realise until afterwards that the two are separate.

There is your answer.Reading helps o/ Also ingame it showed up the WHOLE TIME … So yeah no QQ just a laugh from my side , because you did it and got a precursor and didnt paid attention to this.
did they get skin achivement? such as rare collection from those exoctic?
did they get skin achivement? such as rare collection from those exoctic?
None of the things that happen to your account while participating in the BETA are saved. None of them. Not unlocking skins, not collections, not achievement progress/completion.
edit: fixed a typo.

And people see beta as their actual gameplay, as always.

I’ve gotten a few achievements on my revenant (mainly because I did the Coiled Watch event chain in Frostgorge) and none of them carried over to my actual account. Likewise I used all my silk scraps levelling tailor and they’re still there on my revenant.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
The decision that all rewards and progress made with the revenant during the beta would not be saved was clearly communicated, so whilst IMHO there was no valid reason for doing this (all the free equipment could have been made soulbound and non salvageable or forgeable, if you have (a) chosen to play with the revenant in a standard pve zone instead of one of your normal characters or (b) tried you luck at forging all the free equipment to see if you could land a precursor, you did so knowing that the outcome would be.
If you feel that rewards should have been available, you had the option to do as I did and limit your participation in the beta to familiarizing yourself with the revenant skills in the pvp training area.
Someone remind me what’s the point of wasting hours deleting/creating revenants and flushing down equips to make yourself mad over a precursor you can’t keep xD
Granted im thoroughly enjoying the salt spill from players taking it seriously. its actually rather convenient way to check pre drop rates with no risk
RNGesus finally blessed me with a precursor today which soon turned into a troll face in my inventory after finding out that I cant even keep or sell it cause I was on my revenant… like c’mon 2000hrs of playing and I get a precursor in the BETA…
You mean you salvaged all the exotica this game gave you for free for trying the revenant, even though you had a big sign on top saying you couldnt keep the loot, and you got a precursor?
Cry me a river. It’s fair punishment for ignoring the big warning. I guess you also didnt get the precursor at the first try…. You probably erased and created many revenants before you got the precursor…. So sad!
