Just wondering what you guys think about the longevity of this game . I seem to just stand in lions arch n talk rather than doing something , heres why

[Group Events] Lack rewards and motivation to complete in open world zones

I decided to make an engineer and went to all the starter zones , basically Nobody wanted or zone was empty to do the group events …

[Dungeons-Story modes] Impossible to find a group to do these been trying now for days to do story mode dungeons – Had many replies of people saying " Dont bother doing story mode theyre not worth it "

[RNG] This is a very touchy subject atm , i think it needs to be nerfed a lot , mystic forge and gemstore loot [Ouch]!!

[Crafting] Well this is just used to level up , no rare skin recipes to hunt n craft to make money or even sell the recipes

[Tpvp] Serious Lack of builds/rewards/game modes i quit after rank 41 , and now stand in lions arch doing nothing

I guess im bored of the game , why i try n to play throught the game a 5th time but i just cant bring myself to do it just because of the problems listed above

1. Meta events are being constantly done and is one of the most rewarding things in the game. However if you mean group events that one can do while leveling – your server might have less population, or you’re in an unpopular zone, because here on Underworld at least the giant ooze in Metrica, The Troll in Queensdale and that weird dude with dogs in the snowy starter zone get done all the time
2. try http://www.gw2lfg.com/ for getting dungeon groups and try searching for the story modes on peak times (not for example 4 AM lol). Did a lot of the story modes on my alts and there are still plenty of people doing them
3. I think that mystic forge is fine, however I do agree that RNG in the gem store is a bad thing.
4. I craft because it’s fun for me and I can make some really useful items. (Like food)
5. There are plenty of builds. Sometimes it’s really fun to head not with the most popular one but with one that you created yourself. That or organize a 5-man troll team and select a very specific build (for example 5 necros fear locking enemies to death).
And like Killing said – if a game is boring to you stop playing it for a while. Change and a variety of games to choose from is good. One game will not stay entertaining for forever you know

If you are bored then try something else for a while. Then come back to play after a bit (or don’t, depending on your preference). I think people are really looking for that carrot to keep playing. It’s not really that type of game.

Hmm, a recent post about plating how you want is a nice transition into this post. I feel like GW2 is really a huge sandbox game, and one that doesn’t dictate how to play, where to go, or what choices you need to make. If you have a strong imagination, good frienda to play with, and are focused on play more than reward the game will have a long life. If you need something clearly laid out for you to do, or goals set out for you, it might not last long.

The longevity of the game depends entirely on Anets actions and the content/balance updates they release. If Anet pulls another Nightfall/EotN, this game will be dead sooner rather than later. If Anet does another Factions, GW2 still has a chance. Factions brought two new professions, lots of new endgame options for pve and pvp (3 new game modes + new maps for gvg) and new skills that weren’t so blatantly overpowered that it took 4 years to finally balance them (like with Nightfall/EotN). Factions was a winning formula. If Anet wants this game to survive, they should follow that formula.

Didn’t we have a longevity thread not that long ago? -shrug-

Anywho….

Just wondering what you guys think about the longevity of this game . I seem to just stand in lions arch n talk rather than doing something

I have not personally found this to be an issue myself. I do hang out and talk for a few minutes here or there, but then I do go out and do things. Been holo-farming the last couple of days….aiming for 200k candies so I can get both accounts the wings. Also played dragon ball (sad, sad day that. I cried so hard, but that’s a different topic), and fiddled with the moa races (Meep loved making me money), etc. When I’m not doing living story stuff, I’m out wandering the zones – helping people, taking in the sights, etc. But that’s just me. I’m still mapping, and leveling alts, and so on. I still find lots to do personally.

[Group Events] Lack rewards and motivation to complete in open world zones

Some of them are a little meh on the rewards, but I do (and redo) the ones I enjoy just because I enjoy them. I also jump in on ones that people look like they need a hand on. Yes, doing them alone can be boring, been there done that myself, but they are usually only boring if you’re doing them repeatedly alone.

I decided to make an engineer and went to all the starter zones , basically Nobody wanted or zone was empty to do the group events …

Wow, really? (not sarcasm, actually surprised) Queensdale is the hub of activity on AR, although you can usually find a decent number of people running around together in Metrica too. Queensdale is simply more popular because the events respawn faster (thanks to players -like myself- whining that leveling in the human areas seemed much harder than the others during beta). I see people calling out the events and jumping on them together all the time… Could just be when I play though, vs when you play.

[Dungeons-Story modes] Impossible to find a group to do these been trying now for days to do story mode dungeons – Had many replies of people saying " Dont bother doing story mode theyre not worth it "

I see this issue as well at times. Most people have done the story modes, and only want to farm specific explorable paths now – as quickly and efficiently as possible. This is sad really. I would kind of prefer to see heroes implemented for things like dungeons and other ‘instanced’ content, this way if you can’t find a group of people to do it with, you can still experience it.

[RNG] This is a very touchy subject atm , i think it needs to be nerfed a lot , mystic forge and gemstore loot [Ouch]!!

I agree that RNG needs some tweaking. I don’t mind having ‘limited time’ items. I don’t mind cosmetic only skins available via gems, but they really should sell the weapons tickets directly, or increase the ingame drop rate, or make them tradable. Several options that could help address the issue here. I think they might have started taking steps in the right direction with Dragon Bash, several people have reported getting tickets from the regular coffers, and those (the coffers) are dropping rather well in game, as far as I’m aware. I’ve only gotten a couple hundred myself, no ticket yet, but I have several weeks to keep trying I guess. Of course, if I could just spend….say 400 gems on a ticket for a skin, I’d do it.

As for mystic forge….I think something is a little off in their coding.

[Crafting] Well this is just used to level up , no rare skin recipes to hunt n craft to make money or even sell the recipes

Not much I can say on this. I don’t think it was really intended to be anything spectacular. More for being able to make some of your own weapons and armor, instead of needing to rely on drops, and giving you a nice leveling bonus at the same time. Of course, they also offered you the option of completely leveling a character via crafting, if you did all 8 professions, which was kind of nifty. It’s definitely different.

[Tpvp] Serious Lack of builds/rewards/game modes i quit after rank 41 , and now stand in lions arch doing nothing

Definitely agree that they need more modes. Not sure about rewards…I don’t really do much pvp (of any kind) to say one way or the other. Of course, if people had it their way, they’d get a rare or exotic off every kill, and a precursor for winning a tournament matchup.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

You see this is where opinion comes into play. I loved Eye of The North – it added lots of new zones, races to meet, the story was actually interesting and my boyfriend points out that Nightfall was his favorite one. While a lot of players did love Cantha, some of us here love Ellona too.

I like EotN as well. Wasn’t huge on Elona….it was pretty, and the story was decent….but running though Vabbi, yeesh. I swear Anet went ‘How best can we annoy our players?" Flame Djinn and Roaring Ether….all I have to say. Never left home w/o Gwen after I got her! ….Although, I still love killing the beetles just to hear the ’squeaky!’ when they die. I laugh, every time.

<3 Cantha too. Factions was actually my favorite game of them all.

So yeah /agree, its all very personal taste

Eye of the North was my favorite expansion from the original Guild Wars series. It literally made the series for me. The voice acting was a whole lot better, the writing was better, the entire feel of the expansion was better than anything prior. When I think back to the great lines/moments in Guild Wars history, I think of stuff Pyre has said, or the scenes with Ogden, Gwen and Vekk (just lucky I guess!) or even Odgen’s Benediction. To me this is Guild Wars akittens finest.

Longevity is a funny word. I’m not sure anyone can take an MMO during its first year and predict it’s longevity, unless it’s like SWToR and pretty much tanks completely. This is the bare bones of something that will grow. Over that time it will lose people and gain people.

MMOs don’t need 12.4 million people like WoW had at it’s height and in fact I’m not sure how many MMOs currentliy enjoy a millon active players. So the real question is, how many players does an MMO need to be successful?

Eve is successful and has only recently reached half a million players. I’m pretty sure Guild War 2 can end up with half a million players as well. One might argue that Eve is a subscription game where as Anet is B2P. But then, you can play Eve for free by putting in time, and you can play Guild Wars 2 for free, but plenty of people still use the cash shop.

I think Guild Wars 2 probably won’t hit it’s stride for another eight or nine months. There’s a lot of stuff that still needs fixing/updating etc. There’s the looking for group tool that needs to come out. There’s a ton of stuff just sort of waiting to happen…and it probably will happen.

The question is, will it be too late. One thing that works greatly in Guild Wars 2’s favor is the lack of competition in the immediate to near future. A lot of people have already tried and shrugged off Neverwinter (which isn’t an MMO in the traditional sense anyway) and a lot of people who have been waiting for ESO have to wait till 2014 now, which I figured would happen anyway.

In the end, I think this games longevity has little to do with where it is now, and more to do with what Anet does with it in the next year.

The issues from that thread (posted May 9) were different than this one.

Although with the current state of the game, “longevity” is likely to be a recurring theme.

  1. - Guess a guaranteed rare isn’t enough anymore huh?
  2. - You’ve obviously not gotten a recipe drop from a dungeon yet. You can make a ton of money by crafting the dungeon recipes and selling them on TP.

I believe that the longevity for GW2 comes down to 2 things; player’s expectations, and other mmo choices.

Different people view GW2 differently…
Some absolutely love GW2 the way it is and would only wish to tweek it slightly.
Some wanted it to be all of the good things from GW1, but updated and grown up.
Some wanted it to be the next new innovative MMO.
Some have other points of view that I can’t think of off-hand…

If players arn’t getting what they want, they’ll attempt to seek it elsewhere.

Then, you think about other mmo choices. Is there anything to compete with GW2 at the moment? Will there be anything in the near future? Will these new games bring something to the table that GW2 does not? Will they appeal to players who have expectations of GW2 that are not filled?

I could be way off base here… but these are just my thoughts…

I am a tank at heart.
Sometimes I wonder what I’m doing here…

RNG everything is pretty much a thing of the past like from 1999 past yeah know doing that in the early development of the mmo’s was fine because no one found another way of controlling loot progression.

Now it’s a seriously ancient in terms of mmo’s and gaming. (not talking the boxes, I’m talking about the loot problems.)

As someone who didn’t play GW until after EotN released, Nightfall was far and away my favourite campaign.

I know a lot of people swear by Prophecies, but I thought it was just awful. The story was disjointed, utterly derivative, and completely predictable. Despite the level 20 cap, the pacing was terrible and the whole thing felt like a massive grind. If I’d played at release, I’d have quit within a couple of weeks and likely never gone back.

Funny how opinions work, eh?

I’m not talking about how good the campaign was for those expansions, but everything else that came with it.

Anet abandoned skilled balance completely with Nightfall and EotN. Dervishes, paragons, patient spirit, cure hex and the notorious “Smiter’s Boon”. All examples of the power creep and poor balancing that plagued the game after NF was released.

They also abandoned pvp. Factions introduced THREE new game modes. Nightfall brought one that ended getting deleted out of the game and we got nothing from EotN.

They also introduced more and more titles to grind – with the strength of certain skills in the game being tied to your rank (i mean, wtf were they thinking with this) which meant high-level pve became gated content for those who weren’t maxed rank in these titles.

I could go on and on. This has nothing to do with the story campaign, but the changes that came with said expansions. Anet did it right with Factions.

I personally think the game will have a good shot at lasting for a long time. There is a strong foundation with gameplay that is quite different from most MMOs and it has a visually stunning world that is rich in lore. There are areas that need work and improvement, but looking at the changes that have been made to the game since launch, I’m pretty sure that the devs aren’t finished with the game yet.

In some ways, I think they’re having to refine some of their initial post-launch plans (if not abandon them and start over) due to the reality of running a large MMO. I’m prepared to cut them some slack and wait as this game is still (for me) more entertaining than anything else on the market.

When do you consider being done?

  • Reached Level 80?
  • Got max equip?
  • Played every class?
  • Played enough builds?
  • 100% map completion?
  • Seen all the stories GW2 has to offer?
  • Friends playing another game?

There are many reasons why a player reaches the conclusion that he is “done” with a game. There is just as much a company can do to prevent that. Currently, ArenaNet mainly addresses one reason to shout “done”, the living story bits. That is enough for some to log in, for others it is not enough. When ArenaNet introduced ascended gear, people screamed, when more levels are hinted at, the response is equally bad. It is safe to assume that new maps, skills and traits are something which is something that may only happen in an expansion.

If you feel you are done because you reached the goals you set out to do and ArenaNet fails to excite you for something else, then that’s ok. That is a normal thing to happen with a game, but the ball is in Arenanet’s court to fix it.

I felt that the game more or less began all over when I hit level 80, and it didn’t take too long to get exotic gear, so neither of those things would I consider completion of the game. Besides, it leaves Personal Story, Dungeons, PvP, WvW, Jumping Puzzles, Crafting and the Living Story out if you just consider game content.

The game has an open enough world for players to make a lot of choices on their own about what they want to do and what their goals are. I actually set a lot of goals for myself rather than waiting for ANet to do it for me. This is something I talk about with my in-game friends occasionally. I’ve almost always got a goal, and thus a direction to take my game each time I log in, when I see others sometimes struggle with having a direction in the game.

It seems like the drop rates have been severely nerfed in just about every area including Fractals. Up until week before last running my daily level 38 FotM would fill my inventory regardless of which fractals I ended up doing but now, especially the past week, I am lucky to even fill up 1/4 of my characters inventory.

The way Anet manipulates the economy with material, weapons, armor (all types from regular white items to exotics) and the Gem shop that making more $$ is taking precedence over the game itself.

I am not saying that they shouldn’t make money, in fact they have to but imho Anet is crossing the line with the nerfs to drops, salvage rates, ect. And in doing so is making the game less attractive.
