I want to summarize this article (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/) and ask a question to the developers.

multidomain you met and did a great job in the game, and for that thank you very much.
but …

where new skills and Traits? yes, you’re right balance and “slightly” change the properties of skills, but it is quite another.

where new awards for cPvP? Precursors are not. Ascended armor missing. Plus 3 promised fractal.

There’s still plenty of time left, and besides some stuff can take longer to get right than initially expected, there might be game breaking hot fixes that divert resources away from promised areas and a whole load of reasons.

Personally, if I had a choice between getting it right or getting it on time I’d choose getting it right.

They have 4 more updates before the end of the year. They have plenty of time.
The fractals is quite likely coming on November 26th. And we have already gotten a new skill, so that could be considered fulfilled as well.

they did a post some time ago that the new fractal ellen kiel promised is not forgotten and will be added.
the new skills is added with last LS content and december 10th will have another balance update.
precursor crafting will probably not be ready 2013. however it would be an awsome christmas gift!!
PvP will probably not reward precursors but legendarys directly, however getting those will need a very high rank and is not obtainable quick.

atleast this is what i understand out of the info they gave us.

Antitoxine spray – this is the only skill that was added during the year. and not a single trait.

changes in the balance sheet, is not new skills.
quote from the article:
“We’ll begin regularly adding new skills and traits to the game for each profession to expand your characters and builds! You will be able to earn these new traits and skills by unlocking them. To go along with this, we’ll expand the content and options to earn skill points to help encourage players to experience different challenges and content throughout the world. These skills and traits will be designed to be balanced with the existing skills/traits we currently have in the game, and will simply compliment and expand the range of abilities and tactics available to each profession. Both WvW and PvE players can acquire skills and traits, and additional means of earning skill points will be addressed for both core content areas.
The regular addition of skills and traits that you can earn as you play provides us an extremely stable, easily expandable reward system that fits neatly into the pillars of progression and advancement that Guild Wars 2 are all about. Your character will be able to grow and change for years to come without invalidating everything you’ve earned so far”

It is still a skill added, and they still have 4 more releases left.

where new skills and Traits?

I do not understand some of your questions here. They just added a new heal skill. And I can list 20+ new traits.

Do you read the patch notes or dev post before you ask these questions? Do you know whats going on in game?

Those would be reworked traits, not new ones. Theres still the same number of traits as there were in the beginning.

We have had the one new skill…and they still have well over a month and a half to go. I can easily see 2 or 3 more making it in, and adding even 1 more meets the required ‘new skills’ (plural there) they stated. I expect these things to be added slowly over a long period of time though. To simply dump a whole batch of new skills on us (while fun) would play havoc on game balance.

They have been remodeling, and redoing the traits. Technically they are ‘new’ but they aren’t new in the sense you’re thinking of. Perhaps the former is what they meant, not the latter. Or perhaps, they haven’t added any new ones yet because they wanted to do some more tweaking of the old ones, get some things balanced out first. At which point, new traits may not make it this year. Who knows. I’m happy with them reworking the old ones, and working on some balance for existing issues. I feel the foundation must be solid before they start adding onto it.

The precursor crafting and the new legendary trinket, we were told these were the highest risk for not making the end of the year deadline. I’ve not heard anything beyond that. Someone else said, in one of the various threads, that they’ve confirmed for not making it in before the end of the year, but I’ve not seen anything official on that. The last I’d seen from Colin was that they were high risk. Of course, I’m ok if they don’t make it in. Let them take the time they need to make sure it’s done right. No half-kittened cobble jobs (please).

Ascended armor and fractals… I expect to see these sometime in December.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

They have a “New” name and do a completely “New” function. Detecting a pattern here? If not I put quotations around it for you.

That makes about as much sense as suggesting that when I traded in my older ford pick for a new chevy, that I didn’t get a new car. Suggesting it is the same thing, just reworked.

Yes, traits and skills, or the horizontal progression that Colin suggested we do “instead” of the gear progression. BTW, those suggesting we have already seen it don’t understand it. It’s about character progression through new skills and abilities, not reworked old ones or new universal ones that apply to everyone. It not only provides a sense of character progression, but also promotes interesting and diverse builds with interesting effects on game balance and play.

It would have been good to follow up the blog post with a step in the right direction, however small. Instead, immediately, we have more gear progression and nothing whatsoever to indicate movement in a horizontal direction.
