I have been thinking about going Necromancer, but was wondering is there a build for just dps. I am not a supporter kind of guy I like to go in with all dmg, but I am not fond of Warrior since it is a face roll kind of prof xD looking for more of a challenge.

Mesmer. High damage. Easy to get into, but with a high skill cap. Valuable support when you need it and valuable selfish utility when you don’t. Builds are highly flexible, often with no set utilities or elite and you will be in high demand in every game mode. Every. Game. Mode.

Name like Scythe should have gone with necro :P

What aspect of the game are you going for “dps”? PvE? WvW?

Mesmer is one of those that takes a bit of getting used to. Its the passive aggressive warrior. I want to hit you with a sword, so I made an image of myself to slap you around with a sword… while I watch. Just get some kind of rune set at max level to help with your speed. sword/focus/GS is not bad for leveling and getting around.

There is a power build for necro, but I wouldn’t run it. The necro is archetypal condition damage, but since condition damage is broken in the game I just plain wouldn’t roll a necro. Learn to love the warrior.

If you want optimal dps go elementalist. Its harder to master than warrior but if you do more rewarding.

Thief or Warrior is good if you want to do PvP.

Elementalist is highest PvE DPS.

Currently playing: Mesmer/Ele/Theif

High skill cap classes are thief and engineer, maybe mesmer with the exception of PU builds that are cheesey face-rollish :P

For PvE elementalist is top I think but this is one of the few games where on the small scale side (fights no bigger then 5v5) every class is balanced and has a good role and each class can play that role, albeit some better then others at specific roles.

Power build necro is really really strong. Also has a lot of Condi DOT damage, which let’s you kite more difficult mobs around while still putting a lot of damage on them.

Necro is okay in terms of personal damage, only problem is if you’re not running with a good group that provides offensive boons regularly you won’t be able to help speed things up.

Look at ele or engi if you wanna might stack with vuln for not so organized parties.

Highest single target damage + reflects mesmer would be good.

I’ll probably get trolled for this but the elementalist has the best DPS in a vacuum chamber and the build that gives elementalist the best DPS in the game is extremely fragile. Just going to throw that out there in case you find it hard to play because it does take some finesse and it takes a perfect or ideal group to pull off the best DPS.

In situations where that is not the case the warrior may be the better pick. Much more sturdy with less DPS but definitely more easy to play with less prerequisites to dish out big numbers because the warrior can apply plenty of vuln, has perma fury and might on its own and also has more group support than an ele with its banners and for great justice, the warrior may not dish out more DPS but as a whole the warriors contribution to a partys kill speed is higher than an ele.

And without a warrior no matter if you have an ele or not your partys kill speed will be significantly slower because the warrior boosts the DPS of all party members which is pretty much what allows an ele to do big dps.

There’s nothing that doesn’t have any support is just raw damage.

Groups pick the high damage professions and then utilise their support:

*Ele for Might/Fury stacking
*Warrior for Banners
*Mesmers for Reflections/Pulls/AOE Quickness
*Guardians for Reflections and Blinds->Vuln
*Thief for Blinds/Stealth

If you was leaning towards Necro, then saw the light, that shows you have an interest towards casters, so maybe a Staff Pyromancer Ele.

I think the OP might have a bit of a misunderstanding: all professions in this game do damage. Not only that, but all professions in this game do a lot of damage. You can outfit anyone in pure berserker gear, and when you do this you can get some freakishly high DPS. So, my suggestion is to pick a class that is flashy, and just build for DPS. But, if you want the classes laid out, then (listed by my opinion):

Elementalist: These guys are kings at AoE damage and combo fields, and are IMO the highest DPS class overall. They come with a lot of potent ranged attacks, and also great utility as well. Due to the FGS running bug(?), you can stack up insane amounts of damage against cornered foes. But… your defenses are paper thin, and to maximize damage you’ll have to utilize combo fields to get the most out of your buffs.

Thief: Highest single target damage in the game. Decent AoE damage with the shortbow and sword as well. Most utilities are defensive, but signet builds can increase damage a lot, since thief weapons already have a lot of utility. Haste makes for nice burst damage, and they are already at stacking fury.

Guardian: high base damage, a ton of combos, reflects to reflect back damage a ton of cleave, comes with a lot of additional low maintenance support, great at stacking might, comes with a lot of active blocks. They are bland, but effective.

Engineer: Best self buffer in the game, capable of sustaining 20+ stacks of might constantly, along with decent fury uptime as well. Bombs and grenades both do a lot of direct and condi damage in large AoEs. To top it off, with the nigh limitless utility an engi provides, there is no problem you won’t have a solution for. But, the engi is a high maintenance class to play, with a high skill floor and skill ceiling. Comes with haste.

Necromancer: direct damage necos are highly underrated. From the ability to plow through armies with life blast, to the relentless single target damage of dagger flashing, with decent self buffing abilities the necro arguably the ultimate of low maintenance DPS. Their high HP and constant LF gain makes the necro quite tanky even without dodging, but their flaw is their lack of serious AoE damage.

Mesmer: Mesmer phantasms are extremely potent, doling out a ton of AoE damage at range, and alongside of their reflect skills the mesmer becomes a tricky pony to play and fight with. But, mesmer phantasms take a long time to build up damage, so often opponents will be dead before you can fully get going. But nonetheless you have a lot of support prowess on the side. Also comes with time warp, which is a group AoE haste.

Ranger: don’t have much experience with this, so I can’t speak personally. I think the have high sustained single target damage, though.

I don’t have opinions. I only have facts I can’t adequately prove.

They aren’t underrated. For sure, they can still do the deeps, but lower than practically any other meta-build while offering little support – with the support they do offer being available from other professions.

Ranger: don’t have much experience with this, so I can’t speak personally. I think the have high sustained single target damage, though.

Frost Spirit/Fury & Might from WH.

Engineer: Best self buffer in the game, capable of sustaining 20+ stacks of might constantly, along with decent fury uptime as well. Engineers, while below an Ele in terms of Might/Fury stacking, can maintain close to 25 Vuln on a boss, which is very nice if your group lacks. I wouldn’t really call Engineer versatile though, because their other options that aren’t the meta are downright poor and a waste of time.

It’s high risk, but the rewards are alot higher once you get used to it.

Warr gives 3 stacks of might and 33% fury uptime for party.

Ele normally gives 15-18 stacks(25 with an external fire field source) of might and 100% fury uptime for party.

LH also has AoE blind on auto attack plus you got high health regen uptime with soothing mist since you’ll be sitting on water attunement most of the time.

Ele also has FGS, do heavy deeps with 1,000,000b damage with it when you press 4.

Thief: Highest single target damage in the game.

I’d like to see any Thief out-DPS my Elementalist on a single target; Cloak and Dagger into Backstab has absolutely nothing on Lightning Flash into Fiery Rush.

You can’t seriously be attempting to use an exploit to claim highest DPS can you?

Elementalist. Their damage output exceeds other classes by atleast 30% in normal situations, and most likely over 100-200% against large hitbox mobs provided you use a staff.
