Hey all i purchased GW2 at launch and played alot, got 2 max level characters and loved the game. However the lack of end game PVE and lack of the trinity, ended up sending me back to my old MMO.
I was wondering if they have added anything for hardcore PVE/PVPers who are looking for content progression and very difficult guild content?
Also whats the general feeling among GW2 players atm is it in a good position?

For hardcore PvE challenge, they added in Queen’s Gauntlet. A series of boss fights under timers, some of which many found VERY hard. …then they removed it.

It would be kind of me to say that the Devs are trying to rebalance the game. It would be more accurate to say that they’re flailing wildly in an attempt to rebalance the game. I can’t tell you if it will be good or bad when they’re done, or even if it will be something that should be called Guild Wars 2.

Right now the big things are improved champion loot, and the crafting of Ascended weapons with skill 500 in Weaponsmith, Hunter, and Enchantment.

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

The game has no challenging PvE content. The closest features are Queen’s Gauntlet, which was already removed, and Super Adventure Box, which is a huge jumping puzzle that’s completely unrelated to the core game.

Hardcore PvE and PvP content progression and challenging guild progression?

No, there is no such thing in GW2.

There are guild missions now, but they’re as casual a guild activity you could possible think of and still call it a guild activity. You either have enough numbers to do them or you don’t and you get some tokens for doing them. If you don’t do them, there’s nothing they give that a few extra ectos won’t cover.

Queen’s gauntlet was limited time and it was just for a mini pet. PvP balance is fecked as usual. WvW is still solidly in the hands of the biggest zerg, not to mention pointless and devoid of serious rewards (until, allegedly, a later update.)

“improved champion loot and ascended crafting” is all in the interest of solo grind.

Edit: Fractals are a PvE dungeon with a linear stat progression that can get pretty hardcore, but it’s just the token minority to make the rest of the game feel better about itself.

The game is more or less the same from when you took a break.

From a PvE perspective, we’ve seen the addition of fractals and guild missions. Both of these features are heavily time gated and neither presents a really tough challenge.

We’ve gone from just dailies/monthlies being time gated to literally the entire game being time gated. Dailies, monthlies, world bosses, dungeons, and now even crafting are stuck behind once-a-day mechanics.

Honestly, it’s a great game if you can only dedicate an hour a day and/or five hours a week. Don’t plan on playing it as your primary game especially if you’re an MMO player. If you are looking for raiding and end game progression, you may want to consider a game like FFXIV to play along with GW2, which is what I am doing now.
